One nail missing(between lock and latch)this is easily replaced and was decorative. Therefore the trunk is structurally sound. Latches and hinges all work fine. But have rust. I purchased this secondhand over 30 years ago in Kansas City! Weighs in at almost 120 pounds. Measures 42-1/2" tall by 24" by 23-1/2" Black composite sides with metal lacquered trim, brass Yale& Towne Mfg Co lock, with two replacement keys(not original) The lock works smoothly. The exterior leather handle is intact. The initials"J.G.T. are painted on the slightly rounded top. A brass plate reads"Made Expressly for Mandel Brothers Chicago, Ill. In days gone by. These were used while traveling by rail or ship. It has 5 lined drawers with metal pulls on the right side of the trunk. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried ... morein the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. Antique Black Steamer Travel Trunk Leather Handles on Each End Front Latch NEAT!
This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! ~Nice Antique Barrel Stave(Camel Back) Travel Trunk Up for your consideration is the following. They have been called Camel Backs. Round Tops, Barrel Stave, and Dome Topped. I don't know for sure what this one was called for certainty I just know that it more closely relates to the old"Barrel Stave" luggage trunks. Although this piece is quite old and Non-Restored it is still quite charming to behold. The inside is quite lovely. The trunk could be easily restored to it's former glory. It features beautiful artwork by"Kaufmann& Co. That is numbered. The Outside Of The Trunk Show its age a lot! There is evidence of Surface Rust. Marks, Scratches As the handles on the ends are missing and part of a latch and there is NO key. You Can Better See In The Pics I Have Put On. Hi up for auction I have an antique Hartmann Gibralterized travel steamer trunk. These trunks were designed to travel on ships or rail systems. This trunk dates from the 1920's to 1930's. It is very heavy and large. Measures: 20 x22 x 40 5/8. And has a weight of 95 pounds. The trunk has some nice labels on it. Has a piece of masking tape on one side that reads" Los Angeles" The trunk has no keys or hangers. I thought this would make a great coffee or end table. This trunk was in storgae for over 60 years. It measures 41-1/2 inches in height or length. 22-1/2 by 22-1/2 inches in width and depth. It is totally original. It is a light beige colored tweed, with a dark brown leather trim throughout. Inside(left side) there are 4 drawers with beautiful pull handles. On the opposite side is set up for your clothing with wooden hangers. It has the original curtain, clothes bag, and another small compartment in the bottom closed off by another curtain. As you can see from the many photos that I took this trunk is in beautiful condition. There are some scratches and rubs but nothing is broken, or torn. All the hinges work great. This one also has 149 New Bond St. London on the left side& 70 Champs Elysess on the right side of the main latch catch. It measures 29 3/4 L X 8 1/2" H X 18 1/8" W. There are also pieces of tape on the inside lid. There is some age related wear& scratches. It used as luggage on cruises& hotels& has some staining inside. It does have the tray. 3. The largest& newest of the three. It also has EPW handpainted on each end. The serial# is 907716. The handle has some wear. But the trunk itself has very little. The inside has little or no wear at all. Looks new. I checked at the LV store in Atlanta& found the same size bag listed for over $7.800.00. Not sure of the age maybe the 70's or 80's. Antique Wardrobe Style Travel Trunk w/ Customs Sticker Possibly Hartmann?
This is a very clean trunk. The inner cover has a rip in it and I don't have the key. But the case is sturdy and the interior clean. The handles show some wear too. No odors or stains. There is a customs sticker from the US on the outside, but I couldn't read a date. This looks exactly like the Hartmann, but has no tag. The only name I found was the Eagle Lock Co and the latches. Up for bidding is this Antique Travel Trunk with Single Tray. A s ilk lined interior and i t's smaller size are clues to suggest this was possibly a rumble trunk for overnight or weekend usage. A heavy duty b lack c oated canvas covers the case and serves as the hinge for the trunk. Piece is in very good condition showing some age on the leather seams. Stitching and some unglued canvas in spots. Top tray is made of a wooden frame with the striped silk fabric stretched and glued tightly over the frame. This is an antique or vintage Hartmann Tourobe made in Racine WI travel wardrobe trunk. Trunk measures about 35" x 20" x 12" This has been used. There are surface scratch/rub marks on the outside of the trunk, the leather handle is broken off, the closures work but there is not a key to lock them. Trunk is has markings on the end that say Lt. Comdr. Johnstone MCVS U.S.N.R. on the end and a sticker that says Gibalterized. The Hartmann Tourobe Racine Wi sticker is intact. There are travel stickers attached to the outside and a tag that says Railway Express, Inc. War Won't Wait, if that helps to date it. This outside is black with metal, and not sure what the main material is, maybe a pressed wood. The inside is blue with 3 compartments on the fold down side, 2 of the compartments have cloth ties, the top cloth part folds ... moreover and snaps at the end, snap pieces are intact. The other side has 2 wood hangers and the metal pieces that hold the hangers fold in to hold the hangers and can be folded out when the trunk is opened. There are some water marks on the cloth cover of the fold out part and a musty smell to the inside of the trunk. The red stripes on the outside of the trunk do have rub marks.

Characteristics of Hartmann We are offering for sale an extremely RARE& UNIQUE fine stateroom steamer trunk. Came from an older Central Pennsylvania estate. Trunk has previous owners initials H L B. Exact age and origin unknown but believe to be from the early 1900s. 1877: Hartmann Inc. was founded in Milwaukee. Wisconsin by Bavarian Trunk maker, Joseph S. Hartmann. 1905: Mr. Hartmann had a vision to build"luggage so fine it will stand as a symbol of excellence. Because of his vision. The company grew rapidly and moved to larger facilities in Racine, Wisconsin. This trunk has early Hartmann trademark cloverleaf hardware. Pull out hanger is patented March 1905. This may be the only one is existence. VERY RARE Quality constructed. Trunk interior is fitted with American golden oak and cast brass ornate pulls with drop front hat box ... morearea that can be used as a desk. Exterior is fitted with rose and silver colored cloverleaf hardware(corners are cast iron and the rest of the hardware is nickel plated brass? which I believe the cloverleaf hardware was characteristic of early Hartmann. Canvas appears to have been a deep mahogany that has darkened over the years from the smoke of coal fired trains and ocean liners. Nice shaped edging of wild boar hide(pig skin) and fine brass tacking. The skin from a boar was tougher and thicker than other animals. Pull out hanger is patented March 1905. The latch is marked Everwear TTC3 and Corbin made in USA. Stately Travel Chest Wardrobe Trunk These early trunks are very rare and hard to find and are as good as. This is a very nice piece that looks like it dropped out of the cargo hold of a ship from the 20's. It has a great feel and shows its age as the seems are pulling apart. The paint is weathered, there is no key, the latch does not work and there is no key. Very well made and would be a lovely feature for a display or to give a real vintage feel to your favorite room. This is a wonderful walrus or seal leather antique suitcase. It is in remarkable condition for it's age! All of the hardware and leather handle etc. is there! The front hardware works. But one side is a little stiff and the closure can pop open, an easy adjustment I would think for someone who knows what they are doing. It has a beautiful antique patina. The category that I have placed in(due to lack of choices) says 1900-1950 but I believe it is pre 1900. There is some splitting and cracking of the leather on one end, exposing wood? please see pic for best description. I have not tried to fix it, the leather is very old, again I will leave that to buyers preference. The inside is a beautiful cream colored satin. Rare Antique Walrus Seal Leather Suitcase Travel Case NR!
This is a wonderful antique walrus or seal leather suitcase with original hardware and leather straps. Handle& buckles. It is in remarkable condition for it's age! Nothing is missing as far as I know. It measures aprx. 22 1/2" x 13" I would describe it as a large suitcase, please see pic with wine bottle for best reference. I listed it in this category because of lack of choices, I believe they are pre 1900. I do not see a makers mark, there is a name on the front closures hardware but I can't make it out, there is also patents pending on the front latch and I think the number 118(can't be certain about the numbers) The inside looks nice too. I do not know what the material is that the inside is lined with. It is clean, no strange or musty smells that I detect. Looks like all the original straps& buckles are ... morethere for the inside as well. There is a section that snaps in the center of the case that looks like it is for papers or maps or something to keep rather stiff, please see pics. The leather on the outside is very nice with a wonderful antique patina, I have not cleaned it, I will leave that to buyers preference. There are some white spots and wear, that now looks like a light brownish suede rather that the grain leather, again please see pic. I believe the white spots are typical of leather and can be removed with a cleaner/conditioner. I am selling it as used and as is. I am also selling separately, it's mate, a smaller square(more of a hard shell case) they are a set. This is a large heavy suitcase hence the shipping charge. Made of black leather with thick edges and iron capped corners and brass studs. Interior is lined with green felt and has has partitions on each side. Sides are also divided by a partition. Brass latches and hinges are also oddly on the sides and case opens in a unique manner. Case includes 4 wood cobblers shoes. Absolutely brilliant collectors piece. VTG ANTIQUE COWHIDE LEATHER SUITCASE TRAVEL LUGGAGE ~ Black Hide Steamer Trunk
You are bidding on/ buying an ANTIQUE 1920s GENUINE COWHIDE LEATHER STEAMER TRUNK. I come across quite a few suitcases. I have yet to see one in as good a shape. And as unique a design as this one. It is the size of a small suitcase. But shaped like a trunk. It measures 24 inches across the front 13 1/2 inches deep, and 10 inches tall. It has steamer style straps. Silver accent hardware, all original. It almost has a walrus or elephant texture to the hide of the material. You can see the patterning up close in photo 12. The top part of this piece expands up about 3 inches if you fill it to do so. If not it sits flat. Photos 8& 11. There are 2 straps around the case. In great condition. On the front of the case there is a lock latch, and 2 securing latches. All 3 in good order. Inside looks good. All the straps there are in great shape ... moretoo. Antique / Vintage Black/Brown Cowhide Leather Travel Suitcase Great Shape
This suitcase is in great vintage condition. There is some wear on the edges but no splits or tears. The straps are intact inside and out. It is clean inside with several pockets and two large compartments. It measures about 24. wide and 15" tall and 8" deep. It is a thick split cowhide with lots of texture. I've cleaned it with leather conditioner. It has chrome colored hardware. But no key. Thanks for looking!
