Red Flat Top Steamer Trunk Great Trunk! Large Size. Approx 35 in long by approx 20in and about 24in tall Has in side tray All original hardware. Except for the handles, trunk actually had the handles when I got it, but they were dry rotted, and became even more damaged in the process of conserving. so I did replace them, now they are great Also replaced was the bottom of the tray. The original bottom was coming loose from tray, and was cracked, so to make this trunk as fully functional as possible I thought it best to do it right! The inside of the trunk has been stripped clear of the inside paper. This is great b/c it gets rid of all old smells many old trunks hold it also makes the trunk free of many allergens the trunk has been left natural. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa 1920s- 40s Cedar Chest. The chest is in very clean original condition! It measures approx 45-1/4" long. 20" deep, approx 19-1/2" tall which includes the 1" castor height. The chest is in Excellent Condition- nice clean original finish- strong& sturdy- has a flat top which would be strong enough to sit on- that is unless you are over 300 lbs then I would not advise it. Some normal light age wear as one would expect. The only damage to note is a fairly inconspicuous chip/ slivered off piece- located on the front lower right. Shown up close in pics 10& 12. This is not something that is very noticeable at all, the sliver was done many years back and it has been stained over and the only way you will notice it, is if you look upclose with scrutiny. I do not have the key for the lock and not sure if the lock works. Or are a collector of high-end American antique furniture, then please read on. This fabulous cedar chest was made by the Standard Red Cedar Chest Company, Altavista, Virginia. This company was known later as the Lane Furniture Company, but they didn't use their family name until later, once the company was successfully established(you can read about the Lane Company history here. This is a great example of one of their early chests measuring 45" long x 19" tall x 22.5" deep. This comes with its original cedar tray and cedar chips(which is shown in the box inside the chest. But I will bag) This was probably made between the start of the company in ... more1912 and into WWI since the company adopted its family name after the War. This is constructed entirely of cedar. Tin banding with copper studs embellish this. Just looking at this you'd think it was a perfect specimen. But closer inspection shows that there are some paint scuffs where it came into something painted white, it was used in a workroom so there are saw marks on the very edge of one corner, and you'll find a few nicks and scratches. but heck, it is an antique and none of it is that bad. All four castors are in great condition and you can push this around the room with one finger. It currently resides in my shop so it could be sold during anytime of this auction. Due to the size of this item I am only limiting it to within the US. Antique Early 1900s Small Wood Steamer Trunk Red, Black w/ Gold Oak - NICE!
This is a beautiful wood steamer trunk from the early 1900s. This trunk is black metal with very pretty red and silver accents. It has unusual wheels on the bottom. I have not seen these on a steamer trunk. It measures 17-1/2" tall, 26" wide and it is 14" deep. It is in excellent clean condition. On inspection the handle straps are missing on the sides and the locking center latch is also missing. It shows normal scuffing and bumps as you would expect but no abuse. The trunk had mothballs stored in it and there is a lingering scent. I have never dealt with moth balls and I did not try to deodorize it but I think it will dissipate over time.
