Built to withstand long voyages and hard travel. This Vacationer Foot Locker Steamer Trunk has wonderful vintage character and charm. Measuring 30 3/4" long, 16 1/2" wide, and 12 1/2" deep, it is made of durable resilient vulcanized fibre, advertised as being lighter than aluminum and tougher than leather. The trunk lid has a red tag which reads"Genuine Vulcanized Trunk Fibre Binding made by Taylor Fibre Co" and a label which reads"Vacationer Made in Petersburg. Virginia" The original beautiful brass latches. Fittings, nail heads, and center lock with a working key are an awesome contrast against the black surface. Circa 1950's. The outside latch was pried open at some time put seems to be intact. The inside drawers are not locked. Leather handle has dried out and fallen apart. Measures 40 x 21 x 21. Vintage National Vulcanized Fibre Co. Steamer Wardrobe Trunk Titanic NVF antique
This auction is for a beautiful antique wardrobe steamer trunk made by the National Vulcanized Fibre Company. The construction of these trunks bearing the indian-head label date back to the late 1800s into the early 1900s. This particular piece has been stored in my moms attic since she and my dad purchased their house in 1965 from an old couple who had lived in the home since i was built in 1924. I'm estimating the age of this trunk to be anywhere between 90 and 100 years old. As seen in the pictures the trunk had been only slightly used and does not show any signs of travel use. It shows signs of oxidation on the metal parts and slightly on the vulcanized material. The leather handle has not worn out and is still in good condition bearing the number 524-22. Up for auction is a vintage National Vulcanized Fibre Co. Black Trunk/ Chest with a working key/lock. There is a removable two compartment tray. One of the supports for this tray is intact but damaged. In overall good shape. There are scuffs, it is musty, the leather is old and crumbly, the brass needs a a good polish but in my opinion, it is cool. The pictures speak for themselves.
