This is a beautiful wooden slate trunk. It was made with wood. Leather, and metal trunk. Someone tried to paint the inside of the trunk over the years but the outside was left untouched. This is a neat old toy box with original red paint and prints of pirates on the lid It is 28 inches long x 16 3/4 inches wide x 9 1/2 inches tall This chest has some trim pieces missing on the lid and front middle it has 4 sections on the inside. The large section in front 27 1/2 inches x 10 inches, it appears there was a divider in the center of this section at one time The 3 sections in the back are all 6 inches deep. 2 are 10/12 inches, the other is 5 1/2 inches. There are finger holes on the sides for carrying. The chain that holds the lid from falling back is partially missing. Very old trunk. I got it from an elderly friend of mine-in her 90's. The trunk belonged to her aunt-so it has to be at least a hundred years old if not more. It is 19 inches wide. 13 1/4 inches deep, 32 inches long. Lid is 3 1/2 inches deep and inside is 9 inches from the edge to bottom. The trunk is wood with metal bottom with 3 2 inch brace boards for support. There are metal bands for support on all edges and corners.The bottom and lid have a crack length wise. Leather handles on side rotted off. Back and front leather straps are rotted off. Has original hardware and hinges- front and back. Missing hinge on left side inside lid. I don't see where any nails were used at all. Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. Rare antique Roos Manufacturing wicker and wood chest
Local Pick Up Only! The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had several children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. The business began making curtain rods and later wooden boxes. quoted from the Chicago antiques guide website) This trunk is unusual in that is is from the turn of the 19th century and is made of rattan with the inside lined with wood. I have not seen another like it. It is in terrific shape. MINIATURE OR DOLL ANTIQUE DOME TOP WOOD TRUNK
Up for bid is a very nice antique miniature or doll size wood dome top trunk. Believed to be from the last turn of the century. This small wood trunk, is covered with a brown and black paper, wood slats, tin corners, tin hardware, cardboard trim and once upon a time, leather handles. The paper is missing or torn in some spots, as is some of the original cardboard trim, and the handles are missing. The inside is a whole different story, fashioned with wall to wall wallpaper, and a tray to boot. There is a cloth strap inside which once held the trunk top open, so that the top did not break the hinges, when let go of. The strap can easily be re-fastened to the inside lid. The inside contents as found appear to be doll clothes and blankets or quilted items, and your getting those as well. Priced high over the years, I probably only ever owned ... moremaybe a small handful of these in the last 40+ years of being in business of buying antiques. They are rare to find, especially in such nice condition as this. A great project piece, just waiting to be refinished and used to keep jewelry, make it into a humidor for your cigars, or give it to a small child who might want to use it for dolls or small collectibles. The trunk measures 16" in length x 10-1/2" high x 9-3/4" wide. I bought this from a very old Pennsylvania womans estate auction and I was told it is a 1940s Antique Vintage Sewing bucket. Basket, caddy on three removable spindle legs(they unscrew) It is made entirely of wood and the body seems to be a thick wood slat firkin bucket upside down with a sewing accessory shelf inside. The bands or straps are wood. It stands about 21 inches high and the bucket has a diameter of about 10.5 inches. It weighs about 7 pounds. It is in super condition for an item that is nearly 100 years old. There is a crack in one wood strap but it is solid, not loose at all(see pictures) Please buy condition from the pictures, this is very old with wear. Thanks.

Own a Piece of American History Today! This trunk is over 100 years old! ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(591.100) With Measurements: 30.5"w x 17 3/4"d x 23"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. over ... morethe top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Obviously it will show wear marks from age as it is over 100 years old. No rotted metal or holes present. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. Antique silver tin metal over wood steamer trunk early 1900's unique Rare 1930's
For your consideration is an antique steamer trunk. Dates to approximately 1932. There are stickers on the trunk. Which I did not remove. This is a large trunk, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. I was told that this trunk went from Germany to England and to Scotland and then to the United States. Measures 40" wide, 21" wide and 21" deep. This trunk does show wear, but adds to the history. There is some damage to the inside and made some holes on the underside. This does not effect the look, but would not make a good shipping trunk anymore. I did move it full of fabrics however and it held. Shipping is quoted with UPS. If you know of a more inexpensive way to ship this, let me know and we can work together. Box, Chest, Train Case that appears to have suffered through the depression times. The Suit Case is of wood construction covered with a textured black canvas. The hinges and clasps appear to be brass. Years of wear and travel show and this Case reminds me of something a hobo might have carried. The canvas has worn through. Separating from the wood framework and frayed in many places on both inside and out. The rusty clasps work properly. The clasp is not functional, the metal handle probably replaced throughout the years is bent. The inside has some soil. Fabric has loosened, slightly musty and 4¼” deep.
