Though it does not have a badge, all the details match with Alex Dunn. The drawer profiles, brass) hardware, and unique circle in a square mirror, all match with existing examples of Alex Dunn. Lower drawer bottoms are metal. Upper drawer bottoms are wood. This box comes with the original key! It locks the top, and the top engages throw bolts that lock the cover for the boxes. Great design, and the cases and felts are not in bad shape. Unfortunately, this case has what looks like(a gloppy) coat of polyurathane finish over the outside. We are not sure whether this antique box or chest was originally a hopper or bench, the removable tin liner might have been intended for firewood, chilled wine or potatoes. The top has been revarnished for durability. The rest of the finish is in very fine condition, waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. This wonderful storage cabinet was made in Amercia about 1900 of solid oak with a pine top. It shows the pin pricks in the pine top from maps being pinned down for study. It is 2 sections for moving- top and bottom. It is finished and attractively panelled on all sides- including the back. This cabinet is very solid and sturdy and the finish is in excellent condition in a warm golden brown color. The hardware is cast brass. It is 6 feet long by 41 1/2" and 37" tall. The inside of the 5 big map drawers is 51 1/2" wide by 36" by 3 1/2" deep. The 5 small drawers are 36" front to back to hold rolled maps and charts. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. The back is finished. So it does not need to go against a wall. Obviously the drawers can be removed to transport. Hello Folks. Today we have a antique Oak or Chestnut Machinist Chest with lots of brass details. This is the most outstanding chest I have ever seen in my 35 years of collecting. Superb Construction using round head brass screws all around on the piece, as well as brass drop finger pulls on all 3 drawers. This chest also has drop carry handles, brass corner guards on top and bottom corners, and a brass lock( no key found) and brass hinges. It has the appearance of a miniature carpenter's chest, it measures 20" long x 11 1/2" deep x 11 1/2" high. Made of all Oak or Chestnut wood, except for the bottoms of the drawers& the bottom of the chest itself, which are pine. Great dovetail design the corners of the chest's top. This is a beautiful antique chest, that does need some minor restoration. The raised panel on the ... moretop center of the chest has split, the top drawer has a short split on each end, one side panel has split, and one side drop handle has a small brass piece broken out. Original manufacturer metal plate embossed with name“CHAUTUAQUA” still attached to center front with brads; top door hardware and hinges on lower storage door appear to be original. Although the latch handle appears different(we have seen a wide variety of hardware on similar units) Top opens backward on twin hinges with stops to reveal a metal removable ice block tray. Which still slides out and seats smoothly along mounting tracks in its upper box unit; interior is lined with insulated lead still in good condition. The chest has just been partially refinished in Pavilion Gray, It dates from Circa 1930-40 and is made of Oak. We have left the lift up lid and wooden knob handles golden oak which we feel contrast nicely with the painted finish, The bedding box has a lift up lid and offers excellent deep storage on the inside. It has 3 carved panels across the front and 2 drawers beneath, the box stands on 4 square with carved detail to the front edges at each end.
