Chest has very nice carved feet front and back with bowed top as well as bowed front. It measures approx 22" tall including swivel mirror. 12 1/4" wide at feet, and 9" deep at feet and has 2 small drawers at top and l larger drawer at bottom. Mirror is in fine condition. The small drawers each measure approx 5 3/8" x 4" x 2 1/2" deep. The one on the right has a smaller pull than the others but it appears to have been put on at the same time. Bottom drawer measures approx 9 3/8" x 8" x 3 3/8" deep. Bottom drawer has original lock(no key) and is lined with a silver color paper which appears to be very old. This is a wood trunk with full metal covering. The trunk's exterior was cleaned. Painted and sealed. Hardware was cleaned and painted aged brass. It does not have a key. The interior was stripped of it's original paper then sanded. Stained and sealed. Added were new leather side handles, lithograph and new tray. Vintage HC Faber Sample Trunks & Cases Utica NY Salesman Antique Box Telescoping
For consideration is a fantastic vintage HC Faber& Sons(leather? telescoping case. Most likely from the first quarter of the 20th century. This two-piece case is made from a brown hard yet somewhat flexible material, which may be heavy cardboard or vulcanized fiber and is lined with fabric, which shows staining, as pictured. The case was meticulously assembled using rivets and metal corner reinforcements. When I found it, I was thrilled to open it to see the still-intact Faber label! The case does show its age. With visible scuffs and scratches. I did not attempt to polish the case, as I am aware that collectors of cases and trunks such as these generally prefer them in untouched or entirely professionally restored condition. There are some small paint flecks that could be removed by the new owner on the top cover. Please see the pictures ... moreand let me know if you have any questions. The great news is that every last one of the original rivets and corner reinforcements is entirely intact with absolutely no sign of loosening. The leather straps on the bottom of the case remain attached and in good condition with all original hardware. The overall patina is stunning. I absolutely love this piece! This piece is a Salesman Sample Trunk- some may also use as a trunk for dolls. The piece is entirely original- no signs whatsoever of any restoration or alterations. The trunk opens and closes with ease but does not have a functioning lock. The interior as well as the original tray are in amazing condition for their age. Taylor Co. 1858-1951) Chicago-New York. Measures 11.5 in. tall, 11 in. wide and 8.5 in. deep. Taylor was known for custom making special sizes of specific items and put the same instructions on the top, as this one: Delicate Apparatus Handle With Care. The hardware is brass plating over steel except for the top handle hold-downs which are brass. The leather handle is missing but easily replaced. The trunk walls appear to be fibre. The little trunk is well made, substantial and heavy, definitely not a doll trunk. Dates from the early 1900's. inkfrog terapeak.
