Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research with you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. It was made for/by Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. They include: Some are hard to read. Corn starch Potato starch Linseed Hemp seed Hairs from tea Pine Arnica Clove flower Anise There are 93 entries in all. Because they are so old. Many of the paper labels have become unglued. Rare Olympus GH microscope. Olympus started manufacturing microscopes in 1919 and this model. GH or Shin-Asahi-Go, is the second model made by Olympus in the 1920's.Cast iron base. Brass tube, fine and coarse focus knobs. The tube is etched with"Olympus" Tokyo, No. 21006. Under the square stage is a circular piece that rotates to change the size of the hole allowing different amounts of reflected light through for viewing. Both objectives(not attached in the photo) are Leitz#3 and#7. The eyepiece on the scope is a#1(no maker) the other being a Leitz#3. The original box is dovetailed on the top and bottom. Felt lined with spaces for the objective, eyepiece and slide boxes. Brass handle and diamond shaped keyhole. 12 1/2" X 7 3/4" X 7 1/2" Focus knobs work well and the reflecting mirror is in good condition. Square ... morestage shows a little wear on either side where the slides are slipped under the clips. Brass tube shows some wear or discoloration but there are no scratches. No chips or scratches on the base. Microscope itself is 10" high at it's lowest point and weighs about 7lbs. Box and microscope weigh 15lbs.

Made by SPENCER IN BUFFALO,USA It comes complete in a dovetailed wood box and slides in wellprotected. There are three rotating lens on the microscope: 4mm. 1.9mm, and 18mm. The Black base is marked Spencer. The mirror is clean and shiny. Also present is a 1.8 mm lense in its original brass Spencerthreaded case. A lense with a removable top marked 10 X and a lens marked just5 on top. Included is also an empty brass Spencer case marked for a 16 mmlens. The mirror at the base is clear and clean. all of the adjustmentknobs work. This will make a great display piece or functional addition to anycollection. Almost 100 years old and original. Nice Antique Vintage Early 1900's bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Microscope Wood Case

Please scroll to the bottom of the pictures and read the terms under our last picture. I am far from an expert on these but will do my best to describe it for you. Questions encouraged.I do not see any cracked lenses and the mirror is not cracked on either side. All lenses are clear but one has a hair or something inside of it which I think you can see in the pictures. All of the knobs work smoothly. The paint is worn where you would place the slide and it looks rusty but it may be the base coat of paint as the finish is nice and smooth. It comes with the extra lenses as shown. The black paint is scuffed on the bottom of the back of the base and it could use some polishing/cleaning in my opinion. Made with finger joints, steel carrying handle, a microscope compartment, and seven drawers. The cabinet is well made and surprisingly clean for its age. Contents; About 20 Glass Slides, 6 Prepared Slides(Japan) 2 Spare Bulbs, Glass Eyedropper, Sealed Case of Slide Holders, additional slide attachment, 10x Lens, ... more20x Lens, Knife, Tweezers, Paddle Instrument, Needle Instrument, 110V Power Supply, Three Wax Sealed Prepared Liquids(Japan) I know nothing about them, but it appears to be a real nice microscope. All seem quite exceptional to me with the following exceptions. One of the prepared liquids has hardened, the power supply jack seems a bit of a loose fit, the shape of the battery holders seems a bit odd and I did not have matching batteries on hand to test the light. Vintage Circa 1800 Sauveu r Bausch& Lomb Co Microscope. It is an original microscopes and comes with it original wooden case with 2 glass and extra lenses(see picture) Everything are original except the key lock on the wooden case. Bausch& Lomb Immigrating to the United States from Germany in middle of the 19th century. Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb began their association by manufacturing eyeglasses. Initially manufacturing single lens microscopes. They graduated to producing compound microscopes in 1874. They used different methods for focusing the instrument: a crew thread focus control on the nose end of the barrel. Later discontinued in 1878, a draw tube similar to several other manufacturers and a rack and pinion system. Manufactured in 1876. The first professional model towering 17” tall was the Bausch& Lomb Model 76. Mainly ... moreconstructed of brass. This model had nickel plating and hard rubber mounts for the eyepieces. A frictionless fine focus was achieved by using a micrometer screw located at the rear of the tube. Redesigned as a binocular microscope in 1883. Founded in England in 1898 M. Wiseman was a leader in the optical industry producing scientific instruments and eventually frames. M. This is a very cool all copper and brass steam sterilizer/ sanitizer autoclave for surgical instruments from the turn of the 19th century. Very Steam punk. Marked"WOODWARD CLARKE& CO" Portland Oregon on tag at top of door. Each outlet on the top is marked as well. Two are labeled LEAVE OPEN. One labeled Fill HERE, One labeled THERMOSTAT amd one labeled THERMOMETER. The latch and hinges are solid. The right side has a spicket and a glass sight tub setup, the glass is missing but could be easy replaced. The left side has a sliding vent. The door is about one inch thick and has the original intact cloth or leather gasket. There is an electrial heater eliment that is not wired in located on the bottem of the box. The construction is all copper and brass, I have not cleaned but it would shine bright with a little work. The shelf ... moreinside is also copper and is removable.
