3 microscope slides by John Boyd(1852-1929) A skilled amateur and founding member of the Manchester Microscopical Society. Specimens are aquatic life- Daphnia. The zooplankton Polyphemus pediculus and an arthropod larva from Boyd's aquarium. Dated 1878. 1881 and 1881. Please note that white ringing paint has intruded into the Larva slide. 68 W. White Microscope Slides + Original Case, ca. 1890
A rarity: an almost complete circa 1890 set of microscope slides in their original wooden cabinet. The handwriting and ringing style is characteristic of W. White of Nottingham England. The maker's real name was George Harris(ca. 1835-1904) Who was also an electrician and machinist. One of the shelves has a negative image of 6 slides burned into it. Obviously from having been exhibited in a sunny shop window. The shape of W White's labels is obvious in the sunburnt image. His lower labels have been removed from all of the slides, as was often done by purchasers. There are 68 slides. In a cabinet made to contain 72. Two slides are broken, but the other 66 are in good to near-mint condition, noting only bits of damaged ringing to some slides(see images) Cabinet has original hardware. In very good condition.
