C1850 Here for sale is a very nice antique simple field microscope most likely used as a specimen magnifier by a naturalist out in the field. This one dates probably from the mid to late 19th century and has the normal for this period gilt lacquer finish. The magnifier provides a good degree of magnification as it has 3 flea lenses which can be used separately or screwed together for greater magnification. t he focal length can be adjusted by the rack and pinion adjuster(a bit lumpy)on the main turret. It also comes with a plan concave mirror(some deterioration to silvering) Separate magnifier on stalk, 2 part live box for trapping specimens inside and a small pair of tweezers. Due to a devastating illness that her mother has recently been stricken with. Back in 2011 Joanne was in serious pain. It seemed to get worse as time went by. after many trips to the doctor, tests and great expense they discovered that several bones in her neck and spine had been chipped and fragments of bone were causing the pain.later that year she underwent surgery to remove the fragments and repair as much damage as they could. After the two and a half hour surgery she didn't seem to heal and began falling and bumping into walls many times a day which caused further damage. She seemed to become much more frail as time went on. Although her cuts healed, her doctors could not find anything wrong, her frail nature continued and began to get worse. The family had to start paying the mountain of medicall bills from the tests and surgery, however Joanne was sent home from work many times a week due to her condition and soon had to leave to be on bed rest.Before the first bills could be taken care of the

Antique Brass Field Pocket Microscope Eyepiece Magnifying Glass Etc
Here is a lot of antique scientific field instruments. I'm not exactly sure what they were all used for. There is one that is a pocket brass microscope for looking at slides. The other brass piece looks to be for the eyepiece of an early field microscope. Then there is another metal piece with tripod legs that I think was for using a magnifying lens. But the lens is not there. Then there is a little magnifying glass with clip for attaching to table and last is a little glass cup that has some a little magnifying lens on the end of it. Interesting lot, brass pieces measure approx. 1 13/16" in length.

The brass is still shiny and the overall physical condition is good with no signs of damage or misuse. There are marks and scratches/scuffs around the outside of the microscope that are shown in the pictures, but nothing that renders the item useless. These marks are either from wear or from tarnishing or both. This includes the box as well, to store and carry the microscope when not in use. It is wooden and is closable by means of hinges. I believe this is from the 1800s and wonder how it was used. It is awkward to use and is more a curio then a useful tool. The original directions are included. the booklet states that it's from Chicago but made in Japan. Good luck bidding and no returns on this item unless it has been misrepresented.

For sale I have a truly antique brass pocket folding microscope/ loupe. Historically these were carried into the field to examine small specimens of insects or any thing diminutive. Folded it measures 1 and 1/8 by 3/4 inches. Unfolded it stands about 1 and 1/8 inches tall I see a great deal of new ones are being imported as loupes for examining jewelry Surely that is a handy use for them. Which screws firmly into the lid of the case wherein the instrument is packed when not in use. The three lenses supply a range of magnifications from about five to forty times. No mirror is attached and focusing was made simply by sliding the stage holder over the stem. Later models. Probably of the ~1830-40s, were equipped with mirrors. This instrument is adapted for the examination of botanical specimens, small insects or their parts, mineral crystals, pond life, or for the preparation of samples and for dissection. It is a simple version based on the Cuff and Ellis design of the“Botanical” or“Aquatic” microscopes and on the Gould type simple and compound microscope.
