Description FOR SALE TODAY A VERY NICE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN LACQUERED BRASS SIMPLE POCKET/ FIELD MICROSCOPE IN MAHOGANY BOX. C1850 Here for sale is a very nice antique simple field microscope most likely used as a specimen magnifier by a naturalist out in the field. This one dates probably from the mid to late 19th century and has the normal for this period gilt lacquer finish. The magnifier provides a good degree of magnification as it has 3 flea lenses which can be used separately or screwed together for greater magnification. t he focal length can be adjusted by the rack and pinion adjuster(a bit lumpy)on the main turret. It also comes with a plan concave mirror(some deterioration to silvering) Separate magnifier on stalk, 2 part live box for trapping specimens inside and a small pair of tweezers. The magnifier stands 9 inches(23 cm) high ... morewhen it is mounted on its traveling box. The size of the box when packed away is 5.5" 140mm) wide x 3.0" 76mm) deep x 2.2" 55mm) tall. This small Furnace type microscope is 74mm(3 inches) circa tall and retains about the 85% of the original lacquer finish with very small dark oxide spots. From a local estate this is an antique Lacquered Brass Student Microscope. It does not appear to have ever been used. Comes in a Wood case the only mark I see on the scope is the word"TESTRITE" across the top brass piece It measures about 7 inches tall depending on the adjusting eye piece. The black lacquer on the base is also in very fine condition. The box is wood and has 2 latches on the front to hold the box closed and they are missing. Very nice old scope in exceptional condition.
