This is a very cool World War I era antique/vintage Bausch& Lomb microscope acquired from the University of Colorado. Boulder. Ocular, lenses, and body are label'Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, NY. This unit has a cast iron body and I believe the rest of it brass, though some of it has been enameled black. One of the lenses is labeled 170mm and the other 16mm. Light passes through the optics, but that is the extent of my testing. 93' is etched into the side of the ocular and stenciled onto the base. Table has a small crack on the side. This is an old Leitz Wetzlar brass embellished microscope. No 272910 In fairly good condition overall. Missing one objective lens(it has the 44x and the 10x) Missing the mechanical stage slide holder. But still has the dovetail gear on the side Needs a cleaning- and has some chipping in the black paint over the iron armature- the usual wear. Ocular lens is 10x. Brass is good- scratches seem to only be in the lacquer covering the brass. Needs to be polished- brass is more yellow than is showing in the pictures. Overall it functions properly and there is no mechanical issues. Tube. Condenser and fine focus all seem to be working fine and smoothly. Look at pics- email questions. Ships only in the USA. Unless you really want to pay the extra shipping overseas- it is heavy and would cost a lot more to ship.

The Irises on the condenser move freely as well. The bottom iris looks like it is missing a couple of the leaves, there is what appears to be one of them that was in the drawer of the case. It is shown in one of the pictures. The Case is in good shape. But it is showing it's age, the cabinet does lock and includes a key. I have added a shipping charge to this due to the extra care that is needed to package this securely to ensure it will arrive safely also to cover the extra charges due to it's weight.

Vintage Antique Brass Leitz Microscope circa 1894 - Leica "cousin"
This offering is a rather simple brass microscope. From Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar(Germany) the same firm which made the classic Leica Cameras(although this was made long before any Leica Cameras were made) Leica is short for LEItz CAmera) It is rather handsome, simplistically functional, and in my opinion is very attractive on a shelf. Most of the original lacquer is still present. And adds to the attractiveness. It is engraved: E. Leitz Wetzlar- New-York No 30069. Which identifies it as mfg. about 1894, per Bracegirdle's book: Notes on Modern Microscope Manufacturers" The New York address was a sales agency- Leitz microscope manufacture was in Wetzlar. From the beginning(1849) still is. Interestingly, the present new microscopes are now called"Leica" though"Leica" was originally, and for many years, the name of the ... morevery fine and very popular camera made by Leitz, Wetzlar, in Wetzlar. The precision column top knob fine focus. And sliding tube coarse focus still function very well, and the eyepiece and objective do function also. I would not expect this to serve well enough to win you a Nobel Prize, however, while it is not really a very useful microscope, it does work- To demonstrate that, I just put a piece of multi-colored cloth on the stage, illuminated it from above with my pocket LED penlight, and took the picture shown(last above) of black thread crossing colored threads under rather high magnification- just holding my Nikon Coolpix up to the eyepiece, as steadily as I can. I think of this as more something quite attractive. Historic, and interesting to look at, rather than to really use- it is as shown- no case, no extra parts, no sub stage, just a very basic stand- I have kept it on a shelf for years, where it looks quite attractive, and evokes interest. Height measures from 10 to 13 inches, depending on the tube expansion, base is about 3" by 3 1/2" and stage is about 2" by 3" Wt. is est. at 2 lbs. BRASS FIELD MICROSCOPE* WITH Original Box and Instructions(+ Two Slides) Instructions Read: THE MICROSCOPE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Press slide pins downward and pass the object holders through the slit in the tube so that the prepared slide is in the centre below the lens. Then Turn the microscope towards the light and hold it CLOSE in front of the eye. Regulating the milled upper part until the proper focus is secured. Together with the apparatus there are supplied to prepared slides and two smooth glass plates and two ground glass plates with cavity. Employ these latter for examinations of solids and liquids. When examining liquids pack the smooth and ground glass plates by rubbing a little oil on them. THE MICROSCOPE MAGNIFIES ABOUT 50 TIMES LINEARLY* Tested. Able to view slides quite well. Up for auction. Is a great example of a Vintage Antique early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo, NY, U.S.A. that I recently picked up. It has a wonderful patina, aged look to it. The serial number on this microscope is 67927. According to my research. That serial number places the Manufacturing date sometime between June 23, 1920 and May 23, 1921. This microscope is even OLDER than one that just recently sold for about $400. Both of the brass knobs turn and the mirror is intact. With"no cracks" It could use a cleaning if you prefer the polished look, but I know some collectors prefer the aged natural look, so it has been left untouched. I am no expert in microscopes. I bought it used for a deal because I needed a number three lens for a folding scope of similar vintage, which I swapped for a B& L lens of low power. For your consideration is a beautiful. Brass, Bausch and Lomb microscope. We are not microscope experts, but it appears complete and in very good condition. It has a bit of the surface enamel missing from the stage(pictured) and the locking mechanism on the original mahogany wood case does not work- I believe it just needs a magnet to be replaced to function properly. Overall, though, this rare antique microscope and case are in very good condition. Estimated age- unknown. patent Dec 1 08- 1908 Revolving two lens. 4mm and 16mm. Both work. Antique German brass microscope. Marked E. Leitz Wetzlar Germany No. 250088 Very good condition; I do not see anything wrong with it. No scratches, dents or damage that I can see. It came from the estate of a doctor who had a large collection of microscopes. This was on a shelf in his home library. It appears to have been well taken care of. As to whether it is in working condition. My best guess is that it probably is functional, considering where it came from and how it was stored and displayed. I am not a science person, nor an expert on microscopes, and only remember how to use one from high school science classes, but from what I can see, it is in very good to excellent condition, and all the knobs rotate freely and easily. Vintage Antique Model BB Bausch & Lomb Brass Copper Microscope in Original Case
What a great find. Looks like a beautiful museum piece. For it's age I would say condition is decent. Microscope moves and appears to function but the lens are dirty and need to be cleaned. To be fully functional I would believe it needs a good thorough cleaning/ oiling ect. It appears to be mostly complete. Pictures show the different lens and eyepieces that are included. The wooden case has some wear. It has a crack on one side but is still solid and working. The lock is broken and appears the key broke off inside of it. For this item please inspect and study the images as they are your best description. There should be no need for returns but as an antique item like this it sells for AS IS. This is an ANTIQUE Spencer BRASS Microscope. It was given to me by my family doctor in 1955- he had it in medical school. It comes with a very tall beautiful GLASS VESSEL(Bell Jar) enclosure that envelopes the microscope. SEE PHOTOS) The Bell Jar consists of very thick heavy glass with a flat smooth bottom that creates a tight seal. It is 19.25 tall x 11” diameter at the base. And a 9” diameter cylinder. The combination of the vessel and microscope makes for an exquisite presentation. Both have been kept in air conditioned storage for 51 YEARS! The microscope is in very good condition. This working Bausch& Lomb"Contintental" microscope was made in ca. 1897, so it is almost 120 years old. This microscope is a part of medical history. Microscope Body- Wonderful condition on the brass microscope body. It has a great patina though there are some blemishes and small defects. But all below the norm for a microscope of this age. It will probably look great once it is polished/cleaned, but I'll leave that determination to the new owner. Please look at all the pictures for exact condition of the body. All parts seem to move freely. I viewed an onion skin with#2 eyepiece and 2/3 ocular and it focused fine and edges of image were sharp ... moreand clear. But not working. No key. The door was at some point forced open, but all pieces appear to be there. Wood Case- Good condition. Appears to be original. Nice patina. Some blemish of some sort on the top and various scratches on the exterior(See pictures) Very nice vintage handle. Interior is fitted to the microscope. There is a top drawer with vintage scalpel. On the inside of the door are 8 custom holders containing 3 lens cases for the microscope lenses and one of the eyepieces. One of those holders is either missing or is meant to fix something else. You can see in the pictures a small crack on one of the back corners. 1& 2 Eyepieces and 2/3. 1/6& 1/12 lenses. The#1 eyepiece + 1/12 lens gives a 900x magnification. Rare - Vintage Original Antique Bausch & Lomb Physician's Brass Microscope 1885
Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester NY Early version of the Investigator model microscope. C. 1890 The Investigator model was patented by Bausch& Lomb in 1876. And produced into the 1890’s. This model has a double nosepiece and original eyepiece. The optical system produces clear images and good contrast. Coarse focus is rack and pinion. Fine focus with micrometer knob. It moves up and down but gets a little hung up about half way. The original lacquered brass finish has tarnish and is in good overall vintage condition. You are bidding on an original microscope objective brass case. Sometimes called a can. From the photos you will see it is unmarked as to maker. It bears the numeral"1" on the top.
