$17.25 Shipping Location: Buffalo, United States Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is an antique brass Martin-type"Drum" ... moremicroscope. Made in ~1840 and unsigned. The microscope is lacking the case and accessories and has some condition issues. But it can still make a very attractive display item. History: While the cylindrical pocket microscope was invented by Benjamin Martin in ca. 1740. Later variations of this design, made of brass and equipped with delicate rack and pinion mechanism, became popular during the first half of the 19th century. These microscopes were marketed by many makers, were often unsigned and contained several objectives, forceps, bull’s eye lenses, live boxes and ivory or bone prepared slides. Compactly packed in their mahogany boxes, these instruments were portable and could be easily taken to the field. The small“drum microscopes” made later in France and Germany, were less elaborate and cheaper variations of this general style. In continental Europe. This design later developed through transitional phases into the continental microscope. Description: The microscope is lacking the typical case and accessories. But cosmetically it is in reasonable condition and the optics function well. There are the following condition issues(please see the photos) A) The mirror is unclear, it seems that the silver coating is partly detached from the glass(but it is atill complete) B) The rack and pinion focusing mechanism is missing some teeth at the lower part(see photo) References: Identical microscopes can be seen here: Museum of the History of Science Oxford: inv. 26896; 43758; 81690; 46248; 36754; 99822; Museum Boerhaave inventory no. Antique brass single lens field microscope
Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is a unique and very interesting antique brass single lens microscope. Probably made in the mid-19th century. The microscope comes with a nice case. I don't know if it originally belonged to it(but this way I bought it) I add to it two contemporaneous small frame French-made slides mounted by the Bourgogne Brothers. The last photo is of a flea from one of these slides, as seen through this microscope. There are several similar microscopes in existing collections(like that of the Royal Microscopical Society) But none is identical. It seems that such field microscopes were made in small numbers and with great variability. SHIPPING(please read carefully! Shipping is made promptly(within a day) after receiving cleared payment ... moreby EMS(Express Mailing Service) PLEASE NOTE: sometimes items are held by the customs for longer periods of time. In the very unlikely case of a problem. Please do not open a case against me before contacting me first! You will be provided with the tracking number to follow the item and I will sort out any delay and refund you in full in case of any reasonable loss. I emphasize this issue. Although it happened to me only once(as compared with over 150 successful transactions as a seller) Please be patient, as it is beyond my powers to control the customs in your country. In my experience, usually there are no problems of this kind but here and there they may occur. Shipping charges: I DO NOT OVERCHARGE FOR SHIPPING! Nor do I charge for the often expensive packing materials and handling. Which I do with great care. Because eBay does not allow multiple shipping fees, I must specify a high fee. However I will refund you immediately for any excessive sum. Exactly to the true shipping fee.

Antique FIELD MICROSCOPE Flea Glass Botanical Entomologist BRASS Magnifier 1800
Antique FIELD MICROSCOPE Flea Glass Botanical Entomologist BRASS Magnifier 1800 Greetings. Tonight we have a RARE and ANTIQUE Circa 1800 Brass Folding Microscope/ Magnifier that would have been used by a Botanist or some one in the Entomology Field a couple Cenuries ago. The Single Lens Scope comes complete in it's ORIGINAL CASE, along with the pick/ spike that would hold the leaf or insect that was being studied. I can find no name on the scope to signify a maker; but the construction is excellent and the condition is the same- the Tea Stained handle is also great and free of any chips or cracks- It is also worth mentioning that it has a nice finial on the end of the handle. I have not tried to clean or polish the brass portion; keeping the wonderful patina it has attained over the years. The case is also in good solid condition; with ... morewear spots and a few chips to the outer portion as you would expect from a piece of scientific equipment that was used outdoors in the field. Don't miss out; these do not come along very often-especially when they are complete with the case and in this condition! Please look at all the pictures(SUPERSIZE) as they are an intricate part of this description; and email me with anything that you may need clarification on. I am by no means an expert; and I want to represent all items to the best of my abilities. If you have questions. Please cast them my way. ALL OF MY ITEMS ARE GUARANTEED TO BE OLD AND ORIGINAL UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN THE AUCTION. Thanks for looking at this auction and look for more great items to be coming in the very near future! I will always combine shipping whenever possible in order to save you money. GOOD LUCK!

JONES LONDON - Antique Brass Microscope / Telescope / Field / Accessory? Signed
Beautifully Signed: Jones London Day or Night in Antique Brass* I am a bit stumped with this one. I believe it to be a small antique brass microscope for use in the field. It has a lens on each end. Nothing inside. If you put a specimen inside it, it does have a bit of magnification when held to the light. although I am not sure if this is its intended purpose? Your guess is as good as mine. or perhaps better on this one. Could also be a part/ accessory, although I am not sure how it would attach to anything else. Given the markings. It is likely by William and Samuel Jones, who are also famous for pioneering the Jones Brothers Most Improved Microscope in the late eighteenth century. I do not think this has any relation to that particular microscope design though. There are some dents. Smudges and scratches, as shown in the photos. Appears ... moreto have been polished. Certainly a neat display item. I am a big fan of these lovely old antique signatures on brass. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Happy to ship outside the UK. Canada, and US, but please contact me beforehand to obtain a quote and confirm I can ship to your location. I reserve the right to refuse sale to any bidder that has poor or limited feedback so please check if such is the case prior to bidding. Shipping is an estimate based on conservative dimensions. I only charge the actual shipping cost. Any notable difference when dropped off at the post is refunded. Thanks for looking and kind regards!

Antique Brass Field Pocket Microscope Eyepiece Magnifying Glass Etc
Here is a lot of antique scientific field instruments. I'm not exactly sure what they were all used for. There is one that is a pocket brass microscope for looking at slides. The other brass piece looks to be for the eyepiece of an early field microscope. Then there is another metal piece with tripod legs that I think was for using a magnifying lens. But the lens is not there. Then there is a little magnifying glass with clip for attaching to table and last is a little glass cup that has some a little magnifying lens on the end of it. Interesting lot, brass pieces measure approx. 1 13/16" in length.

ANTIQUE C. CHEVALIER Type BRASS DRUM Field MICROSCOPE ca1850s w Orig WOOD BOX
Favorite Things is delighted to welcome you to our Ebay Auction. I always try and provide unique collectibles that expand your imagination. Enjoy our auction and come back soon. Offered is an Unmarked French Antique Lacquered Brass Field Drum Microscope from ca1850's. Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research ... morewith you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. The only difference is the bull's eye lens on a moveable arm is put in a different. 4. Als

All items are shipped UPS Ground unless noted differently. Neat looking Oriental Hand Beaded Tapestry. About 47 by 32 inches, looks to be fairly high quality work, missing a few glass beads. I don’t know the exact age, but looks to be fairly old. It is currently mounted to a piece of white foam board. I did not try to remove it. NO INTERNATIONAL BIDS without prior approval!
