ANTIQUE BRASS DOUBLE PILLAR MICROSCOPE– THE“LIBRARY MICROSCOPE” WITH CAMERA L UCIDA& DOVETAILED WOOD CASE- CIRCA ... more1886 You are invited to purchase an antique double pillar lacquered brass and black lacquered metal compound microscope called the“Library Microscope” along with a very nice dovetailed wood case that houses the instrument. The Bausch& Lomb Optical Company of Rochester. New York manufactured this microscope for the Philadelphia based scientific supply company of James W. Queen& Co. Due to the fact that Queen& Co. was the distributor of the instrument. The microscope is signed in block letters on the rear of the stage, JAS. W. QUEEN& CO. PHILADELPHIA” see close-up images) The fact that Bausch& Lomb was the manufacturer is indicated on the underside of the tripod foot with just the initials. B&L” along with a number“7” and also a larger number“20. It is unclear if either or both of these numbers are serial numbers or simply part numbers(see images) It is estimated that this instrument was most likely manufactured in circa 1886. Bausch& Lomb first introduced this model microscope in the year 1878. Just a few years after Ernst Gundlach joined the company as its chief optician and optical designer. This model microscope first appeared in Bausch& Lomb’s 1
Offered for auction is a fine Bausch& Lomb portable microscope Model BHP S.N. 74484. Dating to 1908. This full research microscope is housed compactly in a 29 x 19 x 8 cm mahogany carrying case. It sets up by simply spreading the hinged base. Then swinging the stage 90 0 and locking it into place. The profile of this instrument features an integrated"jug handle" cut into the squared off limb. A design that became popular among some producers between ca. 1900 and 1920. This B&L"Portable Microscope Model BHP" has all the features and rigidity of their research stands. But in a convenient traveling form. Not many of these microscopes were produced, because their price was over two times the price of a regular B&L Model BH desk-top microscope. Reference: The Billings Collection catalogue: P. 127 No. AFIP 49447; ... morep. 118. Fig. 223. The original optics that come with this microscope are all signed by Carl Zeiss. The set even has the original Eder immesion oil in an original bottle fitting a special slot inside the case. The case is complete. The inner and outer condition is very good. The original brass lock is completely functional but the original key was missing when I bought the set. However, the microscope will be supplied with a modern fitted key that enables safe locking and unlocking of the case. This is an extremely well-preserved set of an early scientific instrument. Produced by one of the most respected American maker with optic made by the best German maker of the time. During the early 20th century, B&L and Carl Zeiss formed a partnership hence the combined features of this microscope. This is a rare item in excellent condition that will suit every serious collection. I list it with low starting bid and no reserve. Please note: This is a private listing. I will not sell it outside eBay. Please don't address me with such requests. Please note: The accompanying array of images of the microscope and its Mahogany case taken from various angles are a part of this statement

The item up for sale in this auction is a Bausch& Lomb Optical Company Microscope. There is a patent date of February 2nd. 1897 on the micro focus adjustment wheel. I tested all of the lenses using a piece of paper with writing on it, each lens was able to get a fairly clear picture. The mirror does have some blemishes on it and some appear to be permanent. The frame of the microscope is all brass and is in pretty good shape. There is definitely some wear and tarnish on it but nothing major. I can't find any missing pieces and everything appears to be in really good working condition. The microscope will be shipped out in a wooden case along with a box of about a dozen glass slides. I don't think the case is original, but somebody obviously made it specifically for the microscope, so it should go with it. If you have any questions, ... moreI'll be happy to answer them. Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE MICROSCOPE. BRASS EYEPIECE BY BAUSCH& LOMB. FROM THE 1880s. I have the pleasure of offering for sale a Bausch& Lomb brass ocular. This is a rare high power eyepiece. Ideal for use in conjunction with brass microscopes accepting this size of ocular. This eyepiece belonged to a circa 1880 B&L“Harvard” microscope. It is 1 ½ inch tall with a diameter of 1 inch. As shown by the pictures it is in very good to excellent condition for an item some 130 years old. Noticing some dust and that the brass has pitted at some points. Importantly, I see no defects in the lenses. This is a no return auction. Please review the pictures to judge condition and ask any questions before bidding. I ship only to the continental USA.
Up for auction(sale) is a Vintage Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Brass Microscope My clients husband found this microscope in the remains of an old building and cleaned it up very well. Most all the adjustable parts move. Though some are a little harder than others. It is missing 1 of the 3 magnifying lenses that can rotate to any one of the 3 positions. It may be missing other parts that I don't know about. The eye piece does not appear to be the proper one for this scope, but does fit in the chamber. The mirror at the base does have blemishes on both sides. It has many more options than some of the other scopes that I have found from this era. It has 2 patent dates that I can find, one from Feb 1897& one from Aug. 1897. We do have a letter that was written to Bausch& Lomb to find out more information about the microscope. They ... moresent a reply which stated that they do not know to whom it was sold to, but it is circa 1897. The serial number is on the base#26739. It is 14 1/2" Tall x 6" Deep x 4 1/4" Wide I was unable to really see anything as I didn't have the knowledge or the material to test. I'm sure that it does need some restoration. Though it is a great looking decorative piece as it sits. This is the condition it has been in for many years and I did not attempt to polish or take apart to clean. If you would like more pictures please let me know I will ship this scope FREE in the Continental United States PayPal only please If you have any questions please ask I strive for 100% approval so if you have any issues please contact me before leaving feedback I will do returns in special situations Thanks for checking out my items. Sally's Cellar is very pleased to offer one of my favorite finds. a Bausch& Lomb brass microscope with a Spencer Lens(4 mm) stored in an excellent wooden box made for the microscope! Whew! Up for sale by auction-1897 Bausch and Lomb Microscope with a Spencer Lens(both microscope and the lens have ID# This piece is made of brass and black covered metal(not sure) handle and the horseshoe shaped bottom holder Gorgeous brass plate with beautiful oxidation and antique character-Missing a few items that can be easily replaced. Missing the 2 clips that hold the glass lenses. The number of the box is different than the microscope, just one lens on the microscope but there is room for a second one to be attached, also missing the mirror underneath the brass plate. Because Bausch% Lomb is still in business and there are parts for sale for most ... moreevery type of machine. I think you can find the pieces you wish to add. Our policy is to keep pieces we sell in the same condition in which we found them. The wooden box that houses this microscope is absolutely gorgeous. The color is beautiful. The design of the dovetail corners is just excellent craftsmanship. There is not a key for the door. I will keep looking through my sample keys this week: Why do you think there are numbers on the microscope or the box? You are right. due to inventory! We think this must have been used in a medical school due to the times. or perhaps a very wealthy school district? This piece of Science'past' Is in great shape! Just needs few things added if you wish it to have more parts. It also would be a fabulous conversation piece! How cool would it look in your half bathroom or near a wet bar or on a shelf in a book case or in an office. Owning a primitive(made before 1900) microscope that is brass with a gorgeous patina is cool. This is a very cool World War I era antique/vintage Bausch& Lomb microscope acquired from the University of Colorado. Boulder. Ocular, lenses, and body are label'Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, NY. This unit has a cast iron body and I believe the rest of it brass, though some of it has been enameled black. One of the lenses is labeled 170mm and the other 16mm. Light passes through the optics, but that is the extent of my testing. 93' is etched into the side of the ocular and stenciled onto the base. Table has a small crack on the side. Vintage Bausch& Lomb Antique Brass Microscope Circa 1899 The pictures do not do justice to the way this instrument gleams! All the movements move freely with no binding or sticky spots. The Irises on the condenser move freely as well. The bottom iris looks like it is missing a couple of the leaves, there is what appears to be one of them that was in the drawer of the case. It is shown in one of the pictures. The Case is in good shape. But it is showing it's age, the cabinet does lock and includes a key. I have added a shipping charge to this due to the extra care that is needed to package this securely to ensure it will arrive safely also to cover the extra charges due to it's weight.
Antique Brass 1885 Bausch& Lomb Microscope Bar Limb Design with No Case Or Extra Lenses Here is a great older brass microscope for your buying consideration. Recently picked it up at an auction. And remember. There is never any sales tax to our US customers as we live in Delaware, the home of tax free shopping! There were 10 microscopes recently at a high end auction that appeared to be from someone's collection or a high end store that dealt in them. I acquired 6 of them. Here is another one of them. The other microscopes will be made available for sale separately at my eBay store over the next few days as well. The microscope scope and the lens and objective case and dials are made of brass. There is some corrosion to the brass and painted surfaces in places. The black painted part of the microscope stand is some sort of other metal. ... moreThere are the patent dates of October 1876 and October 1885 noted on a brass plate on the microscope. This microscope appears to be a bar limb design. I do not see a serial number on the microscope. But do see the number"37" impressed on the bottom of the stand. The objective has Bausch& Lomb impressed on it and"tube length 8.5" I can see Bausch& Lomb on the eye lens, but not a strength The mirror at the bottom of the scope is two sided. Not cracked or blistered, but the mirroed surface does show some wear. The glass for the lens and objective are dusty and may have some minor scratching. I see no blistered cracked or missing glass in the lenses or objectives. The microscope is 11.75" tall. By 4-1/8" across, by 6.5" wide. Great etching into the brass body and plate of the name of the company. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer. No box or documentation. What you see is what you get. The drop in eyepiece appears to be a replacement and not the original. Still it works fine. Ships to lower 48 states only. thanks pat

This auction is for an amazing early Bausch& Lomb Universal brass microscope with original mahogany case. Additional lenses and accessories. This has the earlier one line patent on the side. There is an original B& L cardboard card for magnifying combinations that identify this as microscope number 3316. The scope is in great condition with no dents or scratches. I will be listing a variety of nice estate-fresh Antique and Vintage Items this week. Here is a Nice ANTIQUE BAUSCH& LOMB OPTICAL CO. BRASS MICROSCOPE with WOODEN CASE. It is Serial#22928. Probably c.Late-1890's vintage. The microscope has a Patent Date of Feb. 16. 1897 on it. The microscope is in working condition. The 2 lower magnification lenses seem to magnify and focus objects fine, but I couldn't get the highest power lens to focus. Not sure why- maybe I just don't know how to properly operate machine. I know little about microscopes in general myself. Microscope looks to have it's original finish on surface. Bottom double-sided reflective mirror in good condition. The iris mechanism in the assembly above mirror opens and closes fine. The three objective lenses on microscope are Bausch& Lomb lenses. Microscope ... morewas found in this antique wooden case which has old and worn ebonized patina on exterior surface. There are no extra lenses in the box but has three empty Spencer storage tubes for lenses found in the storage racks. Also some kind of Spencer glass plate or slide of some kind with serial#5914 etched on it. Also a full bottle of Immersion Oil for objectives. The box has no key for the lock. For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique brass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has ... morea round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

Welcome to TIMEPATINA! No Reserve Auction Bausch& Lomb traces its roots to 1853. When John Jacob Bausch, a German immigrant, set up a tiny optical goods shop in Rochester, New York. When he needed more money to keep the business going, Bausch borrowed $60 from his good friend, Henry Lomb. Bausch promised that if the business grew, Lomb would be made a full partner. The business did grow and the partnership was formed. In the early years, Bausch + Lomb manufactured revolutionary rubber eyeglass frames as well as a variety of optical products that required a high degree of manufacturing precision. By 1903, the firm had been issued patents for microscopes, binoculars, and even a camera shutter based on the eye’s reaction to light. In the 1900’s, Bausch + Lomb continued to demonstrate its place at the forefront of technological innovation ... morefor optical products. Bausch + Lomb produced the first optical quality glass made in America, developed ground-breaking sunglasses for the military in World War I, and created the lenses used on the cameras that took the first satellite pictures of the moon. You are bidding on a Antique Bausch& Lomb Microscope with a jug handle. It measures 5 4/8" x 4" x 12 4/8" in the closed position) The eye piece and the adjustment screws move just fine. They may just need to be oiled if that is possible. The nose piece also moves just fine and clicks the objectives in place. It is missing the slide clips and we believe the substage condenser is missing. It does have some paint loss and scratching from use. The mirror doesn't have cracks and only seems to have some very small spots on it on one side. It does appear to work when we look through the eye piece, but we have not tested it with a slide or object. Antique Jug Handle Bausch and Lomb Brass Microscope circa 1907 This microscope is sold"as is" for I know nothing about microscopes. I am able to look through both lens. So they must work. It does seem like parts maybe missing. The stand seems backwards, but maybe turns around. One lens says16mm the other 10x.
