Watson and Sons Type"Rare" Monocular Microscope A probable pre-Edinburgh student microscope. Rare. This may be a 19th century Watson and Sons microscope- see Watson microscope catalog if available. There are no markings or identification on the microscope itself but pictures in the Watson and Sons catalog show a similar microscope. The microscope is brass- a nice lacquer finish with a brushed black"claw foot" base and measures about 11.5 inches in height. There is a rack and pinion focus, a brass rectangular stage and a rotating sub socket for accessories. Beneath the stage is a plan-concave two(2) sided mirror on a swing arm. On one side one(1) mirror is cracked- see image. The cracked mirror was like this when I acquired this microscope in 1991 but has not hindered the instrument in any way. There is a small wooden drawer ... morein the upper left corner of the wooden cabinet with a"white" drawer pull. Inside the drawer are two(2) brass canisters with objectives, one(1) glass slide, one(1) eyepiece and a small lens. The wooden case is also in excellent condition with a brass handle on top and a built in lock with key. The cabinet has a fine exterior finish. A very nice brass monocular microscope!

This is a rare 19th century brass microscope signed by maker with known owner. The microscope is completely original and all the gears and adjustments are in working order. There is a picture of numerous accessories including ocular lenses. The microscope is signed Watson& Son 313 High Holborn London with#1381. This is a rare model called'Watson Arts' first made in August 1886. I have not been able to find another that sold. It has a fantastic presentation plaque attached that states"Presented to Rev Geo Reid by his sincere friends on leaving the Kidderminster Circuit. August 1886" You can see the fantastic scrip on the plaque. The pine case is all original with great moldings, wrought iron holder and a door inside with a compartment. The hinges are intact as are the 2 clips to hold the door closed. The case measures ... more18x8x8 and is great by itself. The microscope and case weigh 14 pounds. The Reverend George Reid was the Minister from 1823 to 1862 of United Presbyterian Kirk. Westray. He then left to do the Methodist Circuit known as the Kidderminster Circuit. Although the microscope is rare, having the presentation plaque makes it unique as you know the owner and it was given the month it was produced. This was purchased over 30 years ago from the original family. Shipping in the US will be a flat cost of $45 including insurance. International shipping cost will depend on location.

Hi thanks for looking- this is something a bit special so please keep reading. The telescope I believe comes from an artillery gun from a WW1 ship. It reads: V.P. 5-15 TELESCOPE FOR HIGH ANGLE GUN No 293 1915 PATT No G 330 No 16 I have often felt it should be in a museum. It is very heavy and the genuine article. Yes I'll post abroad but it will cost- British post is very expensive. You best bet would be to collect from near calne in wiltshire
