1850's Bourgogne microscope slide Oiseou exotique Cinnyris Senegal bird feather
Nice condition slide from the 1850's or 60's from Bourgogne. Well before the times of the internet and a great way for scientists to learn about far away things. One of about 1.000 slides I am selling. This is a plume from the African/Senegal sunbird or Cinnyris Oiseau Exotique. A very rare slide. Some very minor chips to edges that can be seen and some residue from wax and mounting the slide on the reverse and this is easily removed if desired. These are the size of 2 dimes. The slide is 4 7/8" long. I am a old school wholesaler dealer and scour GA and New England for the best to buy for my customers. I am also the founder of WorthPoint and would encourage all to visit it if you want to research antique prices.I focus on happy repeat customers and love what I do and try to ensure all customers are happy. I do not stay glued to ... moremy computer and have a real job so please do not expect instantaneous answers. Consider your source when buying. I have sold over 11.000 items on eBay and have 99.9% positive feedback. I charge GA sales tax to GA residents. I specialize in paper. Photos, coins and militaria. I sell about anything except reproductions. If it is not old, I say so. If there is a defect, I also say so. If you know more than me about something, that is OK, as I do not mind learning or being told that I am wrong and strive for accuracy. You can always learn more in this business. If I make a mistake, and we all do, I will take responsibility for it and you can return the item. If buying internationally. Email me for final postage if you are the winner. eBay's quoted postage tends to be too high for a 1st class envelope. Also I make a full decloration of sales value, thus please do not ask or expect otherwise.

Bourgogne Microscope Slide Set, Circa 1856 - 1870
BOURGOGNE MICROSCOPE SLIDE SET. 1856- 1870) One of the 19th century's most unique. Creative, detailed and important microslide preparators was Joseph Bourgogne, a Frenchman, and his brothers, Charles and Eugene. His slides were prepared both with and without his name. Often his writing or signature identified his workmanship, and even his design. His slide preparation dates range from about 1825- late 1870's. In 1835 he created his own microscopy workshop in Paris. He often would enter slides in exhibits in both France and London, achieving a bronze medal in 1844 and a silver medal in 1849. Bourgogne had a variety of slide preparations and designs. One particular style was two(2) glass slides with the object/specimen placed between them that were balsam fixed and fastened by"green" strips on each end. These slides were often ... moresold with French drum microscopes. He also had small slides that were known as"continental" size slides, measuring 1.5 x 6 cm, a smaller slide. In about 1850 Bourgogne was a supplier of diatom slides and later he discovered the"male" species of the scabies mite, which was originally thought to be only female. The set of slides available are a set of his paper wrapped slides, many preparations are of marine specimens, cloth samples, and other specimens seen in some of the images. These slides are in the 1856- 1870 time period, with his design of paper wrappings them included small circles cut out and placed on the front of the slides with handwriting. There are 47 slides total, all paper wrapped and two slides that are glass with one of his design labels( see images) arranged in two(2) slide trays stacked in a wooden mahogany stained case. Each slide tray has a blue satin ribbon to lift it out of the case. The case is secured with"C" clips. There are about 4 slides that have no specimen on the slide, just paper wrapping. Brian Stevenson in Kentucky has a great article on the history of Joseph Bourgogne and his family of microscope slide preparati
