All these medical instruments were found in one doctors bag. Picture 2. I believe is a Gutta Percha syringe, there is some surface damage to syringe, see pics) Picture 3 are marked Brinkerhoff's March 2, 1880. Picture 4, is marked Shepard and(DJDLEY N.Y. Picture 5. the larger speculum, DeWitt& Hertze, stainless Germany. The pliers( looking) instrument is marked, Otto& Sons. All instruments are in used condition. Please see pics for condition. This set is nearly complete as you can see. It has four layers of instruments in excellent condition. This set has not be apprised but probably represents middle 1800 or later. This is a Civil War era. Roll-up, physician's pocket surgical kit. It was originally deep red leather inside and out, now well worn, with 15 instrument holders and a lined pocket for papers. The clasp is probably nickel. The interior leather and holders had gold trim that is well worn. It measures 6" x 3" folded. Some of the instruments are stamped Wiegand& Snowden as shown. These were John Wiegand and Thomas Snowden, surgical instrument makers and partners in Philadelphia, PA, from 1824-1855. There are 13 instruments as listed below. Nickel plate trephine from the later 1800s to 1900 from the research I've done on this one i have many others. I've been collecting these for years so any questions please feel free. the hospital imprint were it was last used it scribed into the handle as shown in picture little patina on the drill bit part but that parts steel so they all have that patina unless never used. 1860 Antique Civil War Era Medical Book Surgery Instruments Medicine Surgeon
The Principles And Practice Of Modern Surgery by Robert Druitt Published by Blanchard and Lea. 1860. Embossed cloth. 9.5 x 6.5 inches. 695 pages. The book is solid in binding with clean white pages. No musty smell. Never been wet. Very good condition. Duitt's Modern Surgery was one of the go to medical books during the Civil War. This book contains hundreds of fine medical engravings that illustrate all manner of operations and injuries to the surgeon. Please enjoy the pictures and let me know if you have any questions. About Robert Druitt: Druitt. The son of a medical practitioner at Wimborne, Dorsetshire, was born in December 1814. After four years' pupillage with Mr. Charles Mayo, surgeon to the Winchester Hospital, he entered in 1834 as a medical student at King's College and the Middlesex Hospital in London. He became L.S.A. ... morein 1836, and M.R.C.S. in 1837, and settled in general practice in Bruton Street, Berkeley Square. In 1839 he published the Surgeon's Vade-Mecum. For which he is best known. Written in a very clear and simple style, it became a great favourite with students, and the production of successive editions occupied much of the author's time. The eleventh edition appeared in 1878, and in all more than forty thousand copies were sold. It was reprinted in America, and translated into several European languages. In 1845 Druitt became F.R.C.S. by examination. And in 1874 F.R.C.P. later receiving the Lambeth degree of M.D. He practised successfully for many years, and also engaged in much literary work, having for ten years(1862–72) edited the Medical Times and Gazette. He was an earnest advocate of improved sanitation, and from 1856 to 1867 was one of the medical officers of health for St. George's, Hanover Square. From 1864 to 1872 he was president of the Metropolitan Association of Medical Officers of Health, before which he delivered numerous valuable addresses. In 1872 his health broke down. And he for some time lived in Madras, whence he wrote some interesting"Letter

Vintage Antique Lot Of 2 Bone Gouge Forceps Medical Tools Instruments
Please check out my other vintage medical tools running this week! Here's a very interesting pair of bone gouge forceps. Stainless steel. Only one instrument was marked"Stainless" One forceps is a bit smaller than the other in the"jaws" Both measure about 10" long. Overall pretty good condition with light wear. The smaller forceps has its top tip broken off about 1/8" Nice display item! I accept paypal for payment- anything else just ask. Payment is expected within 7 days of auction close. Incredible group of a variety of antique medical professional instruments in original leather bag! Some of these tools I believe are as old as late 1800's. Where I found markings or hallmarks I noted them on the papers in the photos. A lot of the instruments are working but some are in parts. Broke, have blemishes, etc. See photos carefully. The bag is extremely old and although is leather has hardened over time. The tools will be packed in an organized way when preparing for shipping.
