What you are viewing is an original 1910s era Medical Microscope glass slide box with 18 individual slides that are identified and have specimens attached and 44 slides that are unused. Box is in great condition with most of the wear being on the chart itself and you will see that it does have a rip in the middle. In the lot of slides you will find one dog testis slide. One spermatozoa slide, one Coprinus gills slide, one vagina slide, one penis slide, one foetal kidney slide, one Microsporum Audouinii specimen with the name Robinson on the top and I thing the piece is misspelled, one human scalp, one Transverse section of bone, 2 hemin crystals, one appendix, one stomach cardiac, one Trichuris Trichiura feces sample, one pollen grain, one skin sample of some kind that can be viewed from the back of the label, and two that I am not quite ... moresure of. You are bidding on a collection of 60 microscope slides of tapeworms collected from Homo sapiens(man) The collection includes proglottids of the human tapeworm Taenia saginata and cysticercae and proglottids of the pork tapeworm. Taenia solium. The slides are from an old teaching collection developed during the 1950s and includes a few slides originally purchased from Turtox Biological Supply Company. Most were made by professors teaching at a major U.S. university. Of special interest are a few slides from the collection of Dr. Harley VanCleave. A former professor at the University of Illinois. Dr. VanCleave was an accomplished parasitologist who conducted research on a variety of important parasitic organisms. Many of the slides show crystallization of the mounting media, which does not affect the mounted specimen.

This is an auction for 56 Antique Circa 1900 Human Microscope Slides. The only identifying mark that I see is on the object register it says Henry Heil Chemical Co. St. Louis, Mo. I am not an expert on microscope slides but I will do my best to describe these slides. Of the 56 slides. 4 are animal slides and 2 I am unsure if they are animal or human.The slides are dirty but the specimens seem to be in good condition. 3 of the slides have a broken corner but the specimen is not affected. The original box shows considerable wear but is functional. Item Description Brief: 4 total vintage blood smear related slides. 3 human, 1 lupus prep, Wright stained, about 60 years old, from St. Anthony's Hospital, Denver, Colorado. With reusable plastic 5 slide mailer box and 1 page pictorial introduction to blood smears. Long-winded: Since before biblical times“life blood” has been the subject of strong beliefs and special rules. Gods demanded blood sacrifices. Women were often considered unclean while passing menstrual blood. People were prohibited from. Or implored to eat blood products, in different cultures at different times. Scientists have our own beliefs and rituals surrounding blood. Blood smears can be an important tool for medical diagnosis. A small drop of blood is placed on a slide. Smeared out thinly, and stained. In the past every hospital patient had their blood smear examined ... moreby a human using a microscope, although we now rely routinely on cell counts from automated machines. These slides came in a box traced to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver. Colorado from roughly about 1960. Some slides had the hospital and patient names along with room numbers, and dates between 1958 and 1966. Some of the smears are inconsistent in quality and subject; I suspect a medical student did them during training and saved them as a souvenir. Each old slide contains a drop of real human blood from that doctor in training's patients. 2 of the slides show standard human blood smears. One shows anemia. And the other(one with a lot of dust particles) looks grossly normal to me. You will be able to see the three types of blood cells: 1. Erythrocytes(also called red blood cells or RBC’s) Carry oxygen 2. Leucocytes(white blood cells or WBC’s) fight infection 3. Platelets, cell fragments that help blood clotting One of the 4 slides has cell clumps and is diamond engraved with a likely patient number and"pos L E" I believe this is a positive lupus erythematous cell test. This old imperfect test for the disease lupus tried to catch neutrophils in the autoimmune act
