Vintage Cased Set 87 MICROSCOPE SLIDES- Anatomical/ Histology/ Human/ Animal Ref: This is a cased set of Vintage Microscope Slides. Which appear to have been professionally prepared, possibly for medical training purposes. The are 87 slides in total and so too numerous to list individually. But it should be possible to make out most of the labels from the photographs supplied. The slides seem to comprise sections of mostly human and some animal organs, but this is the limit of my knowledge. If anyone can provide additional information on these slides I would be very keen to hear from them. The slides are dusty and therefore would benefit from being cleaned and one or two have corners missing and and/or minor chips. But generally they are in very good condition and slides are fully and clearly labelled. I am uncertain of their age. But would ... moreguess they date to the early 1900's, maybe a little later? Vintage Set 152 MICROSCOPE SLIDES Anatomical/ Human Histopathology(Diseased) Ref: This is a cased set of Vintage Microscope Slides. Which appear to have been professionally prepared, possibly used for medical training purposes. The are 152 slides in total and so too numerous to list individually. But it should be possible to make out most of the labels from the photographs supplied. The slides seem to comprise diseased sections of mostly human and some animal organs, but this is the limit of my knowledge. If anyone can provide additional information on these slides I would be very keen to hear from them. Apsley Antiques Shop categories. 95 Human Pathology Teaching Microscope Slides personal collection of Professor Gerard L'E Turner. Click thumbnails to enlarge. Product Description. Offered for sale is a very good set of 95 very well prepared Human pathology slides. The slides detail various diseased human organs along with a slide of the organ in good health. This was probably used as a teaching set as the slides are far better in quality than normal path slides. Also to have ringed mounts is unusual for standard path slides. Some of the diseases are interesting and mainly lost to history including Miners lung and gout. There is no name or dates on the slide however the box caries a number which could be a date 1894. The slide labels have a printers name'Young J Pentland. Edinburgh' on the reverse. This set formed part of the ... morepersonal collection of Professor Gerard L'E Turner. You are bidding on a collection of 60 microscope slides of tapeworms collected from Homo sapiens(man) The collection includes proglottids of the human tapeworm Taenia saginata and cysticercae and proglottids of the pork tapeworm. Taenia solium. The slides are from an old teaching collection developed during the 1950s and includes a few slides originally purchased from Turtox Biological Supply Company. Most were made by professors teaching at a major U.S. university. Of special interest are a few slides from the collection of Dr. Harley VanCleave. A former professor at the University of Illinois. Dr. VanCleave was an accomplished parasitologist who conducted research on a variety of important parasitic organisms. Many of the slides show crystallization of the mounting media, which does not affect the mounted specimen.
Interesting pair of Watson physiology mounts. Injected human lung in health, and human nerve fibres(some deterioration to mountant, specimen intact)
Three fine Darlaston parasite mounts.

Item Description Brief: 4 total vintage blood smear related slides. 3 human, 1 lupus prep, Wright stained, about 60 years old, from St. Anthony's Hospital, Denver, Colorado. With reusable plastic 5 slide mailer box and 1 page pictorial introduction to blood smears. Long-winded: Since before biblical times“life blood” has been the subject of strong beliefs and special rules. Gods demanded blood sacrifices. Women were often considered unclean while passing menstrual blood. People were prohibited from. Or implored to eat blood products, in different cultures at different times. Scientists have our own beliefs and rituals surrounding blood. Blood smears can be an important tool for medical diagnosis. A small drop of blood is placed on a slide. Smeared out thinly, and stained. In the past every hospital patient had their blood smear examined ... moreby a human using a microscope, although we now rely routinely on cell counts from automated machines. These slides came in a box traced to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver. Colorado from roughly about 1960. Some slides had the hospital and patient names along with room numbers, and dates between 1958 and 1966. Some of the smears are inconsistent in quality and subject; I suspect a medical student did them during training and saved them as a souvenir. Each old slide contains a drop of real human blood from that doctor in training's patients. 2 of the slides show standard human blood smears. One shows anemia. And the other(one with a lot of dust particles) looks grossly normal to me. You will be able to see the three types of blood cells: 1. Erythrocytes(also called red blood cells or RBC’s) Carry oxygen 2. Leucocytes(white blood cells or WBC’s) fight infection 3. Platelets, cell fragments that help blood clotting One of the 4 slides has cell clumps and is diamond engraved with a likely patient number and"pos L E" I believe this is a positive lupus erythematous cell test. This old imperfect test for the disease lupus tried to catch neutrophils in the autoimmune act
Item Description In brief: 4 vintage blood smear slides. 3 human, Wright stained, about 60 years old, from St. Anthony's Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Scientists have our own beliefs and rituals surrounding blood. Blood smears can be an important tool for medical diagnosis. A small drop of blood is placed on a slide. These particular 4 smears are inconsistent in quality and subject; I suspect a medical student did them during training and saved them as a souvenir. Each old slide contains a drop of real human blood from that doctor in training's patients. Two slides seem like routine hospital blood smears. These slides do not have dramatic blood disease like leukemia. But show some mild abnormalities such as anemia, clumping of cells in stacks(rouleaux) or low/high white blood counts. You will be able to see the three types of blood cells: 1. Erythrocytes(also called red blood cells or RBC’s) Carry oxygen 2. Leucocytes(white blood cells or WBC’s) fight infection 3. Platelets. Cell fragments that help blood clotting One of the 4 slides has cell clumps and is likely human bone marrow aspirate(a needle is jammed into the pelvic bone to suck out a specimen for analysis- no fun) One slide appears to be of no
