For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique ... morebrass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has a round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

Please read carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of this description. Offered for auction is a unique and very interesting antique brass single lens microscope. Probably made in the mid-19th century. The microscope comes with a nice case. I don't know if it originally belonged to it(but this way I bought it) I add to it two contemporaneous small frame French-made slides mounted by the Bourgogne Brothers. The last photo is of a flea from one of these slides, as seen through this microscope. There are several similar microscopes in existing collections(like that of the Royal Microscopical Society) But none is identical. It seems that such field microscopes were made in small numbers and with great variability. SHIPPING(please read carefully! Shipping is made promptly(within a day) after receiving cleared payment ... moreby EMS(Express Mailing Service) PLEASE NOTE: sometimes items are held by the customs for longer periods of time. In the very unlikely case of a problem. Please do not open a case against me before contacting me first! You will be provided with the tracking number to follow the item and I will sort out any delay and refund you in full in case of any reasonable loss. I emphasize this issue. Although it happened to me only once(as compared with over 150 successful transactions as a seller) Please be patient, as it is beyond my powers to control the customs in your country. In my experience, usually there are no problems of this kind but here and there they may occur. Shipping charges: I DO NOT OVERCHARGE FOR SHIPPING! Nor do I charge for the often expensive packing materials and handling. Which I do with great care. Because eBay does not allow multiple shipping fees, I must specify a high fee. However I will refund you immediately for any excessive sum. Exactly to the true shipping fee.

This is as found from a family estate. The optics are intact. But are dusty from storage. The brass is not polished, it is as found. The base is CAST IRON. The lens holder has thumb screws to tighten the samples in place. The only information I find is one of the sample arms says MADE IN GERMANY. The optics are INTACT. As I can see the RED GREEN AND BLUE PIXELS on my computer screen PERFECTLY! Optics are dusty. Honestly, I am amazed at clarity. It is amazing! The brass optics slide and adjust for focusing. The reflector is intact. It needs a new home! I will ship this item FREE FREIGHT IN THE USA.

Antique FIELD MICROSCOPE Flea Glass Botanical Entomologist BRASS Magnifier 1800 Greetings. Tonight we have a RARE and ANTIQUE Circa 1800 Brass Folding Microscope/ Magnifier that would have been used by a Botanist or some one in the Entomology Field a couple Cenuries ago. The Single Lens Scope comes complete in it's ORIGINAL CASE, along with the pick/ spike that would hold the leaf or insect that was being studied. I can find no name on the scope to signify a maker; but the construction is excellent and the condition is the same- the Tea Stained handle is also great and free of any chips or cracks- It is also worth mentioning that it has a nice finial on the end of the handle. I have not tried to clean or polish the brass portion; keeping the wonderful patina it has attained over the years. The case is also in good solid condition; with ... morewear spots and a few chips to the outer portion as you would expect from a piece of scientific equipment that was used outdoors in the field. Don't miss out; these do not come along very often-especially when they are complete with the case and in this condition! Please look at all the pictures(SUPERSIZE) as they are an intricate part of this description; and email me with anything that you may need clarification on. I am by no means an expert; and I want to represent all items to the best of my abilities. If you have questions. Please cast them my way. ALL OF MY ITEMS ARE GUARANTEED TO BE OLD AND ORIGINAL UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED IN THE AUCTION. Thanks for looking at this auction and look for more great items to be coming in the very near future! Untitled Document Description Civil War Era antique brass working Doctors Field Microscope is a great item to own or give as a gift. The microscope itself is in beautiful condition with what I would consider signs of normal use with some small surface scratches on the outside which should buff out and a tarnished patina on the inner surfaces of the tube. These surface blemishes do not take away from the usefulness or desirability of the piece and most likely will disappear if professionally cleaned. There is a light“tuning reel” on the side that adjusts the light source for pin point brightness to a much broader range of light across the entire slide. There are multiple size openings to adjust the light source needed accordingly. It is this small wheel/coin looking thing located on the side just below where the slides are placed. This brass ... moretuning wheel is what makes this a working Doctors field microscope. And not a simple student version. Plus there is an extra screw on the shaft that allows the doctor to secure the microscope to the desired height and keep it there without it slipping. A must have accessory when working long hours in the medical field with this type of microscope. The mirror reflects nicely. But could use a good polishing. The magnifying lenses have no cracks, but have some surface scratches, and needs professional cleaning. Also included is an extra wooden encased magnifier lens. This extra lens would have given the doctor a better look at any given tissue sample placed on a slide. This lens shows signs of field use with surface scratches on the lens that might polish out nicely. The case has a sizable crack running nearly the length of the lid and is not fully secure. But still has integrity. This working Civil War Era Doctors Field Microscope is a really awesome museum quality item all the way around! It is a wonderful piece of medical and military history that adds a since of pride to any collection. Payment Payment is due upon auction end. I accept Paypal. If not paid within 4 business

This microscope is brass& iron comes with wooden box. It measures 8 1/2" tall down and 9 1/2" high extended. The base measures 4" by 2 3/4" I think the scope part is brass as a magnet will not stick but it does show some finish loss. The base is iron with a gold finish. It seems to work but the lens needs cleaning. The only markings are a number 160 on the back of the brass knob. I think this is French but not sure.

Beautifully Signed: Jones London Day or Night in Antique Brass* I am a bit stumped with this one. I believe it to be a small antique brass microscope for use in the field. It has a lens on each end. Nothing inside. If you put a specimen inside it, it does have a bit of magnification when held to the light. although I am not sure if this is its intended purpose? Your guess is as good as mine. or perhaps better on this one. Could also be a part/ accessory, although I am not sure how it would attach to anything else. Given the markings. It is likely by William and Samuel Jones, who are also famous for pioneering the Jones Brothers Most Improved Microscope in the late eighteenth century. I do not think this has any relation to that particular microscope design though. There are some dents. Smudges and scratches, as shown in the photos. Appears ... moreto have been polished. Certainly a neat display item. I am a big fan of these lovely old antique signatures on brass. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. Happy to ship outside the UK. Canada, and US, but please contact me beforehand to obtain a quote and confirm I can ship to your location. I reserve the right to refuse sale to any bidder that has poor or limited feedback so please check if such is the case prior to bidding. Shipping is an estimate based on conservative dimensions. I only charge the actual shipping cost. Any notable difference when dropped off at the post is refunded. Thanks for looking and kind regards!

Here is a lot of antique scientific field instruments. I'm not exactly sure what they were all used for. There is one that is a pocket brass microscope for looking at slides. The other brass piece looks to be for the eyepiece of an early field microscope. Then there is another metal piece with tripod legs that I think was for using a magnifying lens. But the lens is not there. Then there is a little magnifying glass with clip for attaching to table and last is a little glass cup that has some a little magnifying lens on the end of it. Interesting lot, brass pieces measure approx. 1 13/16" in length.

Very nice. Pocket size, field microscope. When assembled it stands just 3.5 inches tall, the cylinder with eyepiece is 2 inches long and 1 and 3/8 inches across. The cylinder appears to be brass with an Bakelite eyepiece. The sturdy base is steel painted black and the mirror is double sided: one side is the actual casing which appears to be polished stainless steel and acts as a mirror while the other is an enclosed glass mirror. I imagine this is to give 2 different intensities of reflected light dependant on the subject to be viewed. The underside of the cylinder has Made in Germany stamped into the metal. see photo) The operation is quite simple, by depressing the 2 spring loaded pins on the sides of the cylinder an opening appears into which the slide is inserted. The mirror swivels to allow maximum light and the focusing is done by turning ... morethe Bakelite eyepiece. There are no date markings on the piece so I’m unsure of it’s actual date of manufacture. All parts are in excellent condition and move smoothly. Although everything appears to be in good working order I am selling the piece as is. slide and 25 cent piece are for size comparison and not included) Thanks for looking and check out more of my listings to see other interesting objects.

The images are actual photos of the Microscope. The body of the microscope is brass and measures 5 inches in height and extends by one inch. All pieces move freely and join together well. I cannot find any name on the device/pieces only numbers on some. The tweezers do have the word Depose on the top. Three lens eye pieces(Brass) are in the set. One is missing its lens. They are numbered 1. 2, 3. The mirror has some paint lost under the glass. The slide surface glass is clear and chip free. The case is not original to the microscope. I believe it is a reproduction of what the original case looked like. The construction is excellent on the case. Tight dovetail joints and brass screws on the top. The exterior wood is oak. See photos for details. Please check out my other listing. The Microscope will be shipped via Priority Mail. The shipping ... morecharge is $11.00 for US addresses. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. There are no letters. Symbols or numerals on any surface of this that I can see. The lower objective is missing the glass lens. The mirror and its gyro mount are missing. The lower lens stage bezel unscrews smoothly. As well as the base. The upper two stages allow unscrewing with little resistance. The center stage threads to the bottom are not responsive and may be frozen. I don't think this is solid brass. It is probably plated. For parts or repair. No returns. Incomplete. For decoration purposes only.

OK. I have had lots of this style field microscopes before, but they were all about 1/2 the size of this one and did not have any accessories. This one is about 9 ½ inches tall closed up.
