Vintage Unopened Microscope Bottle Of Immersion Cedar Oil 1930s Bausch & Lomb
Vintage unopened small bottle of Cedar Oil by Bausch& Lomb. Of Rochester, NY, dating from circa mid 1930s. The bottle is 2 ¼ inch tall, with a diameter of approx 7/8 of an inch, a size that makes it suitable for storage in the usual rack for objectives found in vintage microscope cases. It is wrapped in a brown see-through paper. The label says"cedar oil immersion objective" fill the dispensing bottle about a quarter to half full of cedar oil. If the bottle is more than half full. Here is a wonderful old microscope. More complicated than many we have seen. It is not tested but all knobs seem to be working smoothly, all moving parts are functioning correctly. It is as found, not cleaned up. Measures 12" tall. Some minor wear, we see a little oxidation in areas, case needs cleaning up. The mirror glass is in good condition, there are a few things inside the case- slides, a mostly full box of Gillette Blue Blades, a mostly empty box of Gold Seal Cover Glasses, a small glass tube, a mostly if not totally full bottle of Immersion Oil from Spencer Lens Company, and the original key is included and the locking mechanism is working. On the other side are three more lenses and a box with a sliding lid that has two mostly empty lens cover boxes. Case measures about 14" tall and 7 14" square, some damage to the ... morecase. Antique E.Leitz Wetzlar No. 243314 Oil Immersion Microscope With Case Mfg. 1892
This is the original box but what is unusual is it has his name on it with the address. Not sure if he actual owned this one( see pictures) It has been in my family for many years. The microscope was given to my Dad during the demolitions of a medical building in Philadelphia( he managed) it was and during the demolition they discovered the microscope. At this point the back of the box was beyond repair and to protect the microscope I replaced and installed a back panel. It comes with 4 eye pieces. Three optical immersion lenses, Slide mount with movable positioning, table" rotates 360 Deg. Marked Microscope Made in Wetzlar, Germany& a fitted case, case looks to be the original, Scope also comes with it's Double Sided, Swiveling& Rotating Mirror, Top Eyepiece, 2 Lenses. Lenses are 1. Bausch& Lomb"OIL 1.8mm 1.25 97x CB6923" and 2. Bausch& Lomb DIVISIBLE 16mm 0.25 10x" Top Eyepiece reads"Periplan 12x Ernst LeitzWetzlar. and with a faint letter"B" Condition: Wonderful Style- Looks Beautiful. Very Good Condition for it's age, a former Medical School scope I would say as it has typical school marking/lettering inscribed under the slide table. Some tarnish, scuffs to original finish, small ... moredents& dings, etc, as shown, please see all photos) tilt operates well, focus and fine focus work well, but I am not sure how to focus the OIL Immersion lens without oil, so I will not try. Not sure how perfect the lenses are or are not as far as glass goes. Top Extension slide works but pulls out/up stiffly. Double mirror reflects and swivels well and lower stage under platform raises and lowers smoothly. I'm not sure if this is totally complete, the lower stage looks a bit uncomplicated compared to some other scopes I've owned( No slide holding pins come with it, but they are always the first things to go missing on an old scope. Box has plenty of wear on it, but still holding up strong& solid, it also has 2 very well used condition empty plastic tubular lens holders in it, one marked"E.Leitz, one marked"Zeiss. Size: Microscope Base is Approximately 5" x 6.5" and Height range is from about 12" when top tube and focus tube are not extended- to about 16.5" with top tube and focus tube fully extended.
