This antique cast metal& brass microscope appears to be in good working condition. But I'm not an expert on old microscopes, so it is being sold"as ... moreis" with no returns(and no reserve and no buy it now. The stand has some chips in the finish, with the most noticeable ones being on the"neck" see last photo. Also, the table has a crack on the corner(photo#9) and one of the slide clips has minor plate wear near the screw. The three lenses that come with the scope are 1mm, 4mm& 16mm(all three are marked Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. The scope comes with two mirrors, but the extra mirror may or may not be a B& L mirror, so it may not fit the scope. The scope is marked: B. L. O. Co. PAT. DEC 1 08(photo#11. While the scope is patent dated 1908, I'm not sure what the actual manufacture date is. The opening the eyepiece fits in is marked: 89669 The wooden box/case is intact, but it has scuffs& scratches, finish wear and a there's a crack on the top(photo#3-the top is also slightly warped. There is no key for the box. The scope& case are heavy(14-15 lbs. packaged) So boxed standard shipping with tracking will be $25.00 in the continental U.S. Boxed priority shipping to Canada will be $60.00. outstanding collecting piece optic ww1 complete with standaard Bausch& Lomb Opt. Co 1918 WW1. Really a collectors item what you do not see a lot Bausch& Lomb was founded in 1853 by two German immigrants. John Jacob Bausch and Henry C. Lomb in Rochester, New York. The company also produced photographic lenses(1883) Spectacle lenses(1889) microtomes(1890) binoculars and telescopes(1893)From 1892 in cooperation with Zeiss in Germany, the company produced optical lenses. In this manner, at the end of the 19th century, the product range included eyeglasses, microscopes and binoculars, as well as projectors, camera lenses and camera diaphragms. Expansion of production at the beginning of the 20th century With the growth of the US army. Under President Theodore Roosevelt and the build up of the naval fleet, Bausch& Lomb received the ... morecommission, through the supplier Saegmuller, to manufacture high-precision lenses for optical measurement and founded a joint venture with Saegmuller. At the same time as this new expansion, the significance of scientific research was realized, and a research department with five members was started to develop new products and improve old ones. A new alliance with the Zeiss company in Germany ensured competitive advantages for the three participants, Bausch& Lomb, Saegmuller and Zeiss, in terms of patent use and opening new markets. In 1902, William Bausch, the son of the founder, developed a process to create the desired lens shape directly by casting molten glass. Previously, the glass parts for the lenses had to be separated, ground and polished in a complicated process, so this brought enormous savings in time and materials. The company produced the first optical quality glass in America during the early to mid 1900s. By the year 1903 the company began manufacturing microscopes. Binoculars, and camera shutters. The First and Second World Wars The further development of the firm was affected by political events. Because of the World Wars and the consequent need for optical

Vtg BAUSCH& LOMB OPTIC CO. MICROSCOPE Rochester. New York 1925 Vintage BAUSCH& LOMB OPTIC COMPANY MICROSCOPE. This is a quality precision instrument. Not a toy. This is something that would have been used in a professional lab/research center environment. Made in Rochester, New York. The brass lens has Pat. Oct. 13th, 1925. Everything that is gold colored is solid brass. Only the very bottom horseshoe shaped base and the throat are cast iron. All the other black portions may be aluminum? I'm not sure. Also, I'm not sure if there was three power adjustments for the various rotating power variations. Absolutely no chips, cracks, or repairs. This is a superb quality microscope. I looked at a sheet of paper which depicted the layered fibers very clearly. About 13" high x 5-1/2" wide x 7" deep. The one brass scope ... morehas etched 16mm.25.10X40.
