This is one of the more rare Bausch& Lomb American Type microscope models. It was only manufactured over just a brief 3-year period from 1889 to 1891. The featured instrument is very similar in design to the B&L“The Model” microscope. But it lacks the rack and pinion focus mechanism and is built upon a horseshoe shaped foot with rectangular pillars instead of the“Y”shaped foot with round pillars that characterized“The Model. This instrument bears the name of the manufacturer in fancy script on the top rear face of the circular stage. Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Please see the accompanying close-up image of this inscription) However, this instrument does not bear a typical serial number. For some unknown reason, Bausch& Lomb did not inscribe serial numbers on their earlier microscopes. I am going to do my best to describe this antique ... morebrass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has a round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

Though some are a little harder than others. It is missing 1 of the 3 magnifying lenses that can rotate to any one of the 3 positions. It may be missing other parts that I don't know about. The eye piece does not appear to be the proper one for this scope, but does fit in the chamber. The mirror at the base does have blemishes on both sides. It has many more options than some of the other scopes that I have found from this era. It has 2 patent dates that I can find, one from Feb 1897& one from Aug. 1897. The serial number is on the base#26739. It is 14 1/2" Tall x 6" Deep x 4 1/4" Wide I was unable to really see anything as I didn't have the knowledge or the material to test. I'm sure that it does need some restoration. Though it is a great looking decorative piece as it sits. This is the condition it has been in for many years and I did not attempt to polish or take apart to clean. Nice Antique Vintage Early 1900's bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Microscope Wood Case

Please scroll to the bottom of the pictures and read the terms under our last picture. I am far from an expert on these but will do my best to describe it for you. Questions encouraged.I do not see any cracked lenses and the mirror is not cracked on either side. All lenses are clear but one has a hair or something inside of it which I think you can see in the pictures. All of the knobs work smoothly. The paint is worn where you would place the slide and it looks rusty but it may be the base coat of paint as the finish is nice and smooth. It comes with the extra lenses as shown. I have taken close ups of any numbers or markings I could find. The numbers on the top of the microscope which ... moreI assume are the serial numbers are 241681. The black paint is scuffed on the bottom of the back of the base and it could use some polishing/cleaning in my opinion. The wooden finger jointed case is in nice shape with just a scuff on the one side and the original nickel handle remains on the top. The door has a lock but I do not have the key. Vintage old 1900's Bausch and Lomb Microscope. Brass. Needs a little polishing. This is the 2 lens model. Not 3. Lens is a 10x and 43x Nice clips for the slide. And slide area is clean. All parts move nicely and tight. Nice black enamel finish with the brass highlights. Mirror intact, swivels and holds nice and secure too. Comes with original Wooden box. Does not lock. And is old so the door doesnt close tight. Dovetailed box, nice and sturdy. Measures 14" high by 6" wide and 8" deep. Microscope slides nicely into it. This is a very cool World War I era antique/vintage Bausch& Lomb microscope acquired from the University of Colorado. Boulder. Ocular, lenses, and body are label'Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, NY. This unit has a cast iron body and I believe the rest of it brass, though some of it has been enameled black. One of the lenses is labeled 170mm and the other 16mm. Vintage Bausch& Lomb Antique Brass Microscope Circa 1899 The pictures do not do justice to the way this instrument gleams! All the movements move freely with no binding or sticky spots. The Irises on the condenser move freely as well. The bottom iris looks like it is missing a couple of the leaves, there is what appears to be one of them that was in the drawer of the case. It is shown in one of the pictures. The Case is in good shape. But it is showing it's age, the cabinet does lock and includes a key. I have added a shipping charge to this due to the extra care that is needed to package this securely to ensure it will arrive safely also to cover the extra charges due to it's weight.

Vintage unopened small bottle of Cedar Oil by Bausch& Lomb. Of Rochester, NY, dating from circa mid 1930s. The bottle is 2 ¼ inch tall, with a diameter of approx 7/8 of an inch, a size that makes it suitable for storage in the usual rack for objectives found in vintage microscope cases. It is wrapped in a brown see-through paper. The label says"cedar oil immersion objective" fill the dispensing bottle about a quarter to half full of cedar oil. If the bottle is more than half full. Wonderful antique Bausch& Lomb double pillar microscope- possible circa 1880s. Everything works and the microscope is fully functional. The scope stands ~15.5 inches tall with the tube fully extended. The fine focus is on the bottom of the stage. The mirror has some silvering- see photos and the black lacquer on the base is worn in places. There is one B&L objective marked 1/2. The brass. However shines and looks great. Vintage Bausch& Lomb laboratory microscope with. The microscope is marked 236357. The microscope appears to be in good condition but I'm not sure how to use it so it is being sold as is. All parts seem to move correctly. When looking through the top lens I did see a crack in the glass. I'm not sure which glass is cracked. So please note that there is a crack when you look through the top. Other than that it appears to be pretty good cosmetically but does show some signs of age and wear and needs cleaned. Please view the pictures for details. The microscope comes with multiple lenses including a 19mm 91x oil immersion lens. A 16mm 10x divisible lens and a 4mm lens. This piece is very heavy. Antique Vintage Bausch & Lomb Jug Handle Microscope with some Nickle Plating
Antique Bausch& Lomb jug handle microscope with very nice Spencer mechanical stage. Serial number looks to be 66590. Which makes its age around 1907. This is a unique microscope because the fine and course focus nobs are nickle plated. The rest of the microscope is brass except for the base. The mirror has some minor silvering and the black lacquer shows some wear. The Spencer stage works well, the sub stage condenser is clear, and the sub stage iris works well. The three objectives are B&L and the scope comes with a 10X eye piece. This is a great fully functional jug handle microscope and will make a wonderful addition to any collection.

All knobs work freely and lenses look alright. The adjusting plate knob(two knobs exist side by side on the plate area) outside knob appears to be bent. But still works perfect. Microscope used to be part of the Arkansas State Board of Health. And is marked this in three areas(see Pics. Top lens is marked W10X-15.5MM. Bottom three are 97X. 43X, and 10X. Microscope is dirty here and there. And needs to be cleaned. Also included is a working light source 120v lamp with an on/off switch– all works. And lights up as shown. It was in poor storage for many uears and the reflective mirror has corrosion and is displaced from its plate. Some surface rust on the scope body but you can see light when you look into it. This listing is for a vintage Bausch& Lomb brass and cast school microscope. The patent date is Feb. 16. 1897. This piece came out of an old school that has been torn down. There are 3 lenses. there is a 16mm- 0.26 lens. a 4mm-0.65. and the top lens is a#10. There are 5 glass slides and several glass slide covers in the drawer of the case. The microscope measures about 13 1/4" fully extended. There are spots on the brass finish. There are scuffs and scratches from use over the years. There is a chip in the glass on the#10 lens. The lenses need cleaned. I did not attempt to clean the microscope parts.I will leave that to the experts. This is a nice collectible piece. Thanks for looking!

ANTIQUE VINTAGE BAUSCH & LOMB BRASS MICROSCOPE WITH ORIGINAL WOOD CASE 4mm 16mm
For your consideration is a beautiful. Brass, Bausch and Lomb microscope. We are not microscope experts, but it appears complete and in very good condition. It has a bit of the surface enamel missing from the stage(pictured) and the locking mechanism on the original mahogany wood case does not work- I believe it just needs a magnet to be replaced to function properly. Overall, though, this rare antique microscope and case are in very good condition. Estimated age- unknown. patent Dec 1 08- 1908 Revolving two lens. 4mm and 16mm. Both work. As does the sliding focus mechanism. Very little overall surface wear to microscope. Please see pictures for exact detail and condition. This antique microscope displays wonderfully. Here is a great older metal microscope from Bausch& Lomb for your buying consideration. Recently picked it up at an auction. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! The Bausch& Lomb microscope scope and the lens and objective case and dials are made of metal. The black painted part of the microscope stand is in very good shape. The eye lenses are a 5x and 10x. Nice slide guide that would hold the specimen for smooth movement across the working area. An extra Spencer piece that would go down near the mirror. There are no dates noted on the microscope or accessories. The serial number of 16033-185 is on the microscope. The microscope is probably from the mid 1920s to early ... more1930s. The mirror at the bottom of the scope is two sided. Not cracked or blistered, the mirrored surface does show some wear(loose from stand) The glass for the lens and objective are dusty and may have some minor scratching. I see no blistered cracked or missing glass in the lenses or objectives. The microscope is 12.5" tall. By 7" across, by 9" wide. Nice what appears to be the original wood case. The wood case is intact, still has its' lock, and the key that works it. There is a slide drawer holding all the eye lenses and then a drawer on the right side that has nothing in it but holes to hold some accessories. There is also a metal box the has a blue shade that is electrified. Also a plastic cover that can be put over the microscope when it is out of the case. The objectives are a Spencer 2x. 8(2) a B&L 10X and a B&L 43x. Handle is still on the top of the case. Great etching into the metal body and plate of the name of the company. Vintage 1883 Bausch & Lomb Microscope in Original Case - Very Rare. Serial #2165
Vintage 19th century Bausch& Lomb Microscope. Very rare and early model. With an extremely unusual design. This was made for the Arthur H Thomas Company. I researched the very low serial number of 2165 and it indicates a manufacture date of 1883! I discovered this item at a farm estate sale, and the family members only thought their father had bought it at a state liquidation sale decades before, and remember him using it from time to time. I am not an expert at microscopes and may not use the exact terminology, but I will do my best. I have been told this was a"comparison microscope" but cannot confirm that information. It certainly is very different from any other microscope that I have ever seen. Many of the components are made from brass, cast or stamped metal. It appears to have been well maintained, and has no major damage ... morethat I can see. I have not cleaned the lenses, and only given the outside a very gentle cleaning to remove dust. There are two hexagonal focusing prisms which work independently of each other, and are fully functional through their designed range of operation. The left and right focusing knobs move freely, with circular brass slide holders. Mirror rotates freely and is intact, but clouded. It has a removable steel lens cover. Original dovetail joint wooden box with functional hinge and clasp. It has normal wear, with surface scratches/chips and one burn mark at the top corner of the box(see pictures) I have no slides or other items with the microscope, other that what is seen in the pictures. VINTAGE ANTIQUE JUG HANDLE MODEL BAUSCH & LOMB CO. MICROSCOPE WITH CASE
I happen to own a very cool and keenly designed early Jug Handle 1900's Bausch and Lomb Microscope with variable light adjustment mirror on the bottom that can be flipped to amplify light even more. As you can tell there is only one top focal piece which does not seem to be removable or stationary at any position but can easily be raised or lowered. The lower magnifiers are easily switched by turning the mechanism either to the right or left. At present the microscope sits a 11.5 inches but can as high as 14 inches. The items seems to never have been professionally polished and has what appears to be blued iron with brass. The item could clean up really well if you are into that sort of thing. All knobs are smooth and appears to be operational. I have peered down through the whole but have not tried to focus in on anything currently. ... moreBut I can see that there are no major obstructions to doing so. Below the platen, is an aperture control such as the shutter on a camera. It seems to be functional, but is a bit bent slightly at the closed position from a bit of misuse or old age. The Case- Seems to be the original case and is made purely out of some kind of hard wood but can not be totally for sure. If you look closely at the finish. It seems to have set out in a moist area for some time and allow the case to mildew which has dicolored the varnish a bit. Looking at the front, it appears that there is a small label that says Microscope, yet is hard to make out. Some clown, at some time, decided that he'd be a wise guy and appeared to have slightly carved a larger spelling of Microscope on to the wood but is barely noticeable, but I wanted to mention that. The lock mechanism seems to be intact but there is no key. Baucsh& Lomb must have been in Rochester. NY because I can see it on the lower magnifying lenses which also can be removed for examination or replacement. Inside the case. There seems to be some kind of area that would hold more lenses, but I am not able to remove or jar the wood holder away from

Vintage Antique Model BB Bausch & Lomb Brass Copper Microscope in Original Case
What a great find. Looks like a beautiful museum piece. For it's age I would say condition is decent. Microscope moves and appears to function but the lens are dirty and need to be cleaned. To be fully functional I would believe it needs a good thorough cleaning/ oiling ect. It appears to be mostly complete. Pictures show the different lens and eyepieces that are included. The wooden case has some wear. It has a crack on one side but is still solid and working. The lock is broken and appears the key broke off inside of it. For this item please inspect and study the images as they are your best description. There should be no need for returns but as an antique item like this it sells for AS IS. I don't know much about these items and am just hoping it finds the good and right home. It will be shipped carefully and insured. No returns ... moreplease!
