Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research with you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. Made by SPENCER IN BUFFALO,USA It comes complete in a dovetailed wood box and slides in wellprotected. There are three rotating lens on the microscope: 4mm. 1.9mm, and 18mm. The Black base is marked Spencer. The mirror is clean and shiny. Also present is a 1.8 mm lense in its original brass Spencerthreaded case. A lense with a removable top marked 10 X and a lens marked just5 on top. Included is also an empty brass Spencer case marked for a 16 mmlens. The mirror at the base is clear and clean. all of the adjustmentknobs work. This will make a great display piece or functional addition to anycollection. Almost 100 years old and original. Nice Antique Vintage Early 1900's bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Microscope Wood Case

Questions encouraged.I do not see any cracked lenses and the mirror is not cracked on either side. All lenses are clear but one has a hair or something inside of it which I think you can see in the pictures. All of the knobs work smoothly. The paint is worn where you would place the slide and it looks rusty but it may be the base coat of paint as the finish is nice and smooth. It comes with the extra lenses as shown. The black paint is scuffed on the bottom of the back of the base and it could use some polishing/cleaning in my opinion. Vintage Circa 1800 Sauveu r Bausch& Lomb Co Microscope. It is an original microscopes and comes with it original wooden case with 2 glass and extra lenses(see picture) Everything are original except the key lock on the wooden case. Bausch& Lomb Immigrating to the United States from Germany in middle of the 19th century. Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb began their association by manufacturing eyeglasses. Initially manufacturing single lens microscopes. They graduated to producing compound microscopes in 1874. They used different methods for focusing the instrument: a crew thread focus control on the nose end of the barrel. Later discontinued in 1878, a draw tube similar to several other manufacturers and a rack and pinion system. Manufactured in 1876. The first professional model towering 17” tall was the Bausch& Lomb Model 76. Mainly ... moreconstructed of brass. This model had nickel plating and hard rubber mounts for the eyepieces. This is a very cool all copper and brass steam sterilizer/ sanitizer autoclave for surgical instruments from the turn of the 19th century. Very Steam punk. Marked"WOODWARD CLARKE& CO" Portland Oregon on tag at top of door. Each outlet on the top is marked as well. Two are labeled LEAVE OPEN. One labeled Fill HERE, One labeled THERMOSTAT amd one labeled THERMOMETER. The latch and hinges are solid. The right side has a spicket and a glass sight tub setup, the glass is missing but could be easy replaced. The left side has a sliding vent. The door is about one inch thick and has the original intact cloth or leather gasket. There is an electrial heater eliment that is not wired in located on the bottem of the box. The construction is all copper and brass, I have not cleaned but it would shine bright with a little work. The shelf ... moreinside is also copper and is removable. The door is built like a frame and looks like it was made to except a label, mirror or advertisment. I have never seen one of these before. Vintage/Antique Early 1900s Leitz Wetzlar Microscope w/Wooden Case
You are bidding on one lot of one old microscope by Leitz Wetzlar. This has a serial number of 110262 probably dating it to the early 1900s. I do not know much about microscopes personally. But everything seems to move smoothly, including the focus and fine focus, The turret, and the mirror assembly. It tilts back fine as well. There is a lens up top marked 3. And then another lens top without the barrel marked 4. It has a three lens turret but only two are in use. One is a Leitz Wetzlar 3 and the other is a Spencer 4MM 44X. There is an extra Bausch& Lomb 16MM 10X lens but it does not fit. There is a double sided mirror, the looks in good condition, and another assembly with an aperture that swings back and forth under the slide table. There is also another aperture under the slide table that opens and closes with a lever. Has a heavy ... morecast iron base and looks like brass knobs and a brass finish to the main barrel. This item seems well used and has its fair share of scuffs and scratches. Along with finish wear in a number of places. Also comes with a custom E. Leitz Wetzlar wooden case. It has a lock but no key. It is in very good sturdy condition but has scuffs and scratches from use. The iris works well, and the condenser is clear- see photos. The serial number is 10358. The microscope comes with three ocular lenses marked 2, 3 and 4, and the three objectives are marked E 4mm, 2, 1/12 01-Jm 2mm. The microscope comes with a very nice oak box(no key) The box has a crack in the back but is mostly in good condition. Look through the pictures and ask questions. I don't know much about this particular maker and have not seen many microscopes by Emil Busch A. G. Rathenow. It is an original microscopes and comes with it original wooden case with 2 glass and extra lenses(see picture) Everything are original except the key lock on the wooden case. Bausch& Lomb Immigrating to the United States from Germany in middle of the 19th century. Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb began their association by manufacturing eyeglasses. Initially manufacturing single lens microscopes. They graduated to producing compound microscopes in 1874. They used different methods for focusing the instrument: a crew thread focus control on the nose end of the barrel. Later discontinued in 1878, a draw tube similar to several other manufacturers and a rack and pinion system. Manufactured in 1876. Antique Vintage C. Reichert Wien Early 20th Century Medical Microscope W/Box
Antique early 20th Century C. Reichert Wein medical microscope. Reichert started their company in Vienna in 1876. My research tells me this is pre 1920. However I am no expert. The microscope has a serial number and the original oak dove tailed box has the same matching number as well. The back of the box is missing but would be a simple fix. The overall condition is very nice and appears to have all its parts as shown in the photos. All working parts are functional. It is a very unique and rare piece of medical history and displays very well. Easily could be cleaned and polished and it would look like new. This is an old Leitz Wetzlar brass embellished microscope. No 272910 In fairly good condition overall. Missing one objective lens(it has the 44x and the 10x) Missing the mechanical stage slide holder. But still has the dovetail gear on the side Needs a cleaning- and has some chipping in the black paint over the iron armature- the usual wear. Ocular lens is 10x. Brass is good- scratches seem to only be in the lacquer covering the brass. Needs to be polished- brass is more yellow than is showing in the pictures. Overall it functions properly and there is no mechanical issues. Tube. Condenser and fine focus all seem to be working fine and smoothly. Look at pics- email questions. Ships only in the USA. Vintage Bausch& Lomb Antique Brass Microscope Circa 1899 The pictures do not do justice to the way this instrument gleams! All the movements move freely with no binding or sticky spots. The Irises on the condenser move freely as well. The bottom iris looks like it is missing a couple of the leaves, there is what appears to be one of them that was in the drawer of the case. It is shown in one of the pictures. The Case is in good shape. But it is showing it's age, the cabinet does lock and includes a key. Vintage Antique Brass Leitz Microscope circa 1894 - Leica "cousin"
This offering is a rather simple brass microscope. From Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar(Germany) the same firm which made the classic Leica Cameras(although this was made long before any Leica Cameras were made) Leica is short for LEItz CAmera) It is rather handsome, simplistically functional, and in my opinion is very attractive on a shelf. Most of the original lacquer is still present. And adds to the attractiveness. It is engraved: E. Leitz Wetzlar- New-York No 30069. Which identifies it as mfg. about 1894, per Bracegirdle's book: Notes on Modern Microscope Manufacturers" The New York address was a sales agency- Leitz microscope manufacture was in Wetzlar. From the beginning(1849) still is. Interestingly, the present new microscopes are now called"Leica" though"Leica" was originally, and for many years, the name of the ... morevery fine and very popular camera made by Leitz, Wetzlar, in Wetzlar. The precision column top knob fine focus. And sliding tube coarse focus still function very well, and the eyepiece and objective do function also. I would not expect this to serve well enough to win you a Nobel Prize, however, while it is not really a very useful microscope, it does work- To demonstrate that, I just put a piece of multi-colored cloth on the stage, illuminated it from above with my pocket LED penlight, and took the picture shown(last above) of black thread crossing colored threads under rather high magnification- just holding my Nikon Coolpix up to the eyepiece, as steadily as I can. I think of this as more something quite attractive. Historic, and interesting to look at, rather than to really use- it is as shown- no case, no extra parts, no sub stage, just a very basic stand- I have kept it on a shelf for years, where it looks quite attractive, and evokes interest. Height measures from 10 to 13 inches, depending on the tube expansion, base is about 3" by 3 1/2" and stage is about 2" by 3" Wt. is est. at 2 lbs. Wonderful antique Bausch& Lomb double pillar microscope- possible circa 1880s. Everything works and the microscope is fully functional. The scope stands ~15.5 inches tall with the tube fully extended. The fine focus is on the bottom of the stage. The mirror has some silvering- see photos and the black lacquer on the base is worn in places. There is one B&L objective marked 1/2. The brass. However shines and looks great. Antique Vintage Bausch & Lomb Jug Handle Microscope with some Nickle Plating
Antique Bausch& Lomb jug handle microscope with very nice Spencer mechanical stage. Serial number looks to be 66590. Which makes its age around 1907. This is a unique microscope because the fine and course focus nobs are nickle plated. The rest of the microscope is brass except for the base. The mirror has some minor silvering and the black lacquer shows some wear. The Spencer stage works well, the sub stage condenser is clear, and the sub stage iris works well. The three objectives are B&L and the scope comes with a 10X eye piece. This is a great fully functional jug handle microscope and will make a wonderful addition to any collection.

BRASS FIELD MICROSCOPE* WITH Original Box and Instructions(+ Two Slides) Instructions Read: THE MICROSCOPE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Press slide pins downward and pass the object holders through the slit in the tube so that the prepared slide is in the centre below the lens. Then Turn the microscope towards the light and hold it CLOSE in front of the eye. Regulating the milled upper part until the proper focus is secured. Together with the apparatus there are supplied to prepared slides and two smooth glass plates and two ground glass plates with cavity. Employ these latter for examinations of solids and liquids. When examining liquids pack the smooth and ground glass plates by rubbing a little oil on them. THE MICROSCOPE MAGNIFIES ABOUT 50 TIMES LINEARLY* Tested. Able to view slides quite well. Only includes components ... moreshown in photographs(as is) Some scuffing to the brass. But overall very nicely aged. Mounting of the slides is a touch chipped and yellowed. Instructions a bit rubbed. But reasonably legible. Box shows some age/ fading/ bumps, but still solid and fairly clean. Wood box underneath item is to prop up the item for the photos. Listing only includes the microscope. Original hard cardboard box(with instructions pasted in it) and two slides. The wooden box is not part of the listing. Not sure the age. But estimate late 1800’s/ early 1900’s. A good example of antique/ vintage field microscope! Happy to ship outside the UK.
