The lens itself is marked Spencer Lens Co 41929. 4MMN AP.0.75. I would describe the condition of the piece as far as appearance goes as very good with expected fine scratches and nice patina. I have no way of knowing if the lens glass itself is functional but it appears to be unblemished. The overall approximate dimensions of the canister are: height- 1 3/4" diameter 1" top, 7/8" bottom. This rarely seen antique dissecting microscope is by Spencer and dates to the 1800's. Charles A. Spencer is known as America's first microscope maker. The microscope is marked: Spencer Buffalo USA. The microscope has a cast iron stand. It is in fair condition. The knobs on the sides move the lens but are very stiff and probably need some oiling. The bottom has the reflecting mirror and there is a thick. Beveled glass plate on the top that has some scratches. The arms for holding the glass plate are missing. But it could have been used by his physician father before that. After WWII. He returned home and continued to use the microscope in his medical practice. There is a bill of sale dated 1939 for an objective in its original envelope. The microscope is in the original wooden box and it does have a key to lock the door securely. Here is a rare binocular microscope by Spencer. It was made in 1925. It has a heavy SOLID BRONZE base and spine body. It has an antique Apochromat lens. A used apochromat lens today costs around 3000.00. An apochromat lens has better corrction of chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration is the phenomenon of different colors focusing at different distances from a lens. Apochromatic lenses are designed to bring three wavelengths(typically red. Green, and blue) into focus in the same plane. The case has an upholsterd fet lined drawer that holds the binocular head and all its accessories. In other words, this is the best microscope that can be found in 1925! Its fitted with a Leitz Wetzlar mechanical stage. Spencer Binocular microscope Circa 1923(Serial Number 81986) microscope in excellent condition- a collectors piece. This one was truly a cadillac in its day. Has optional monocular tube with ocular. Additional pair of ocular lenses. It has the three objectives, pictured separately each with its own original machined brass storage tube. I am told by a fellow E-bayer that the APO and/or APOCHROMATIC objectives on this scope are far superior to standard achromatic objectives and represent the top of the line. This E-bayer was also kind enough to share a note that this scope is similar to the No. 4 research model listed at the Harvard science museum(Ebay won't let me include the link- sorry) however. Antique Brass and Metal Spencer Microscope with Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Attachment and Spencer Illuminator Serial No 24832 All items in our store include NO sales tax to our US customers! Here is a great older brass microscope for your buying consideration. Recently picked it up at an auction. There were 10 microscopes recently at a high end auction that appeared to be from someone's collection or a high end store that dealt in them. I acquired 6 of them. Here is another one of them. The other microscopes will be made available for sale separately at my eBay store over the next few days as well. The microscope scope and the lens and objective case and dials are made of brass. There is some corrosion to the brass and painted surfaces in places. The black painted part of the microscope stand is some sort of other metal. There is a 6x and 10x ... moreeye lens with the scope. Also a 3x with the scope that is not the right diameter. There are no date. The serial number of 24832 on the microscope would make it as having been produced around 1914 to 1915. There is also a Spencer illuminator with the microscope that has a great vintage power cord on it. The illuminator lights up when plugged in. There is a clear and blue lens inside. The reflector is still behind the bulb. The microscope also has some sort of brass Ernst Leitz Wetzlar attachment on it for moving the specimen around both horizontally and vertically on the observation plate. This is a really nice attachment and in very nice condition. The mirror at the bottom of the scope is two sided. Not cracked or blistered, but the mirrored surface does show some wear. The glass for the lens and objective are dusty and may have some minor scratching. I see no blistered cracked or missing glass in the lenses or objectives. The microscope is 12.25" tall. By 6" across, by 6.75" wide. Nice what appears to be the original wood case, missing the original wood drawers. Case is intact, still has its' lock, no key. I am out of my area of expertise but I did a little research and found that Spencer Lens Company microscopes with serial numbers up to 10.000 had an approximate date of shipment of June of 1909. That would make this microscope 105 years old or older. The microscope has two objective lenses. One is marked 4mm NA066. The other is marked 16mm NAP.0.25. Both are marked Spencer Lens Co. The microscope seems to work and be in good condition for its age. When you look through the microscope you can see a couple small crooked lines. I don't know if these are cracks or dirt. Up for auction. Is a great example of a Vintage Antique early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo, NY, U.S.A. that I recently picked up. It has a wonderful patina, aged look to it. The serial number on this microscope is 67927. According to my research. That serial number places the Manufacturing date sometime between June 23, 1920 and May 23, 1921. This microscope is even OLDER than one that just recently sold for about $400. Both of the brass knobs turn and the mirror is intact. Here we have an antique microscope that is marked"Belcher& Mason Birmingham. England" on one part and on the lenses it's marked"Spencer Lens Co" It is also marked Spencer and Serial Numbered on the base. There are 4 eye pieces that are marked"Ernst Leitz Wetzlar" There is also a wooden box with sliding draws for additional eye pieces. I'm not sure what is missing but there is most likely a few parts missing. Also there is some damage to the rotating lens area of the microscope as you can see as well as wear all over the microscope. This microscope knocks my socks off! Everyone who has seen it just ooooooohhhhhh and aaaahhhhhhhs! Fascinating. Huge! 18" tall by 12" deep. Serial number 91537 which indicates the microscope was manufactured in 1933. You can set this microscope down next to a large specimen or paitient for examination. Also can examine slides. The swing arm is extremely handy. Magnifies clearly. This microscope is a must have! You will not see another.

Antique Microscope SPENCER LENS CO. Mod. 12374 Optics are by Spencer Lens Co.
The microscope is missing the two slide holders. The backside of the mirror is missing most of its finish. But is not broken. The optics appear to be ok. I have no way to really test them. The base is cast iron and the rest of the body is brass. The eyepiece is numbered 10. The two lens are numbered 29221 and 28817. The numbers are hard to read. I think I have it right. The name on the base is faded but still readable. The lens swivels easily and snaps in place. The hole scope body rotates back and forth to find your comfort zone. The eyepiece rides up and down on its track easily. Fully extended it is 12 3/4" high. Front-to- back is 5 7/8" and it is 4 1/8" wide. Questions. Comments, concerns.
