Favorite Things is delighted to welcome you to our Ebay Auction. I always try and provide unique collectibles that expand your imagination. Enjoy our ... moreauction and come back soon. Offered is an Unmarked French Antique Lacquered Brass Field Drum Microscope from ca1850's. Additionally it is a Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope. The bottom of the body tube has two screw on and off lenses for adjustment of magnification. It features a bull's eye lens. The original Mahogony wood box, glass plates, and a period tweezer. It is 9" tall fully extended and has a 2 3/4" bottom diameter. I did clean up all the lens and provide a basic clean-up on the entire microscope with Windex only. Since it is unmarked. I was able to access a multitude of pictures and info concerning French Drum Microscopes, and I will share my research with you. I will provide four manufacturers' or instances of this type of microscope, to provide dating and provenance: 1. Charles Chevalier lived from 1804 to 1859. His 1848 microscope which can be found on Ebay. Is functionally similar to the instrument being offered, though not as sophisticated as far as features, and operational knob control. Since he worked through 1959, it was very possible that he added the features seen as he progressed from 1848 to 1959. 2. Construction No. 3 by Lerebours& Secretan. Ca1839-1855(designed and described by Lerebours alone in 1839 but not manufactured till 1855) Monocular Compound Achromatic Brass Microscope, height 10 1/5" Rack-and-pinion focusing, one bull's eye lens. It included a Mahogany wood box. This unit can be seen on the Internet and was valued at between $1,000- $2,000.00. 3. French Drum Microscope ca1865. Trade label of James Foster Jr. Mathematical& Philosophical Instrument Maker, Cinncinnati Ohio. This microscope can also be found on the Internet, and is is funtionally equivalent to the instrument being offered. The only difference is the bull's eye lens on a moveable arm is put in a different. 4. Als

An interesting little small microscope of the Coddington lens type. This is made from a white metal. With a nice ebonised wood handle It is a simple microscope ... morebut magnifies to a very large size. I would think this dates to the Edwardian period. Maybe up to the 1920's. The item measures 4.75 inches(12.4 cm) long. The lens itself is about 1.25 inches( about 3 cm) across. The microscope seems to be in good condition. Although there is a little dust to the lenses, and some light wear to the white metal. The piece is a real find. A simply wonderful rare piece to add to a collection of scientific items or microscopes. Very evocative of a time when gentlemen were keen to indulge in scientific studies. Vintage heavy scientific instrument C.L.Hill Mfg. Co. Cranford NJ-Dry ice maker?
I'm not sure what it is. But it sure is a good one! I will do my best to describe it. I HAVE SINCE BEEN TOLD BY A FELLOW E-BAYER THAT THIS IS TO MAKE DRY ICE PATTIES. CARBON DIOXIDE GOES IN AT HIGH PRESSURE TO MAKE DRY ICE. The label says C.L. Hill Mfg. Co. Inc. Cranford New Jersey. Caution wear goggles and gloves. It appears to be some sort of gas burner. With a brass valve inside, marked 1008 3000 on the bottom. This item weighs about 9.5 lbs. It is about 8" tall and about 6" across and has a flanged base with 6 holes so it can be securely mounted. It is likely made of plated brass, plated steel, or even stainless steel. There are some small spots of rust or other staining. The lid has an adjustable hinge and has a heavy-duty latch/handle. There is threaded adjustable vent at the top of the lid. Under the lid is a fine mesh ... moreand a nut that holds the inside burner in place. The lid closes tight with a recessed rubber gasket in the lid. The numbers 411 are stamped near the latch. This is a beautiful piece of scientific equipment, very unusual. Antique CAMBRIDGE SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT CO. Battery-Type Electrical Apparatus
This is a Circa 1900-1910 Battery-Type Electrical Device that was Manufactured by the CAMBRIDGE SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENT CO. LTD.Cambridge. England) It measures approximately 9.5" tall, 9" wide and 4.25" deep, and is mostly constructed of Oak( wood, Brass, a Bakelite( Top, and brass and copper fittings and lining. The wood has been so permeated by chemical solutions( thru the century, that it has created a very dark patina to the wood overall. Stamped into the top of the lid is"The Cambridge Scientific Instrument Co. Ltd. England. No. 2539, No. 476" and the 3 thumb screw brass terminals, starting with the upper left one, are stamped"B1" B2" and"G2" The two large, square brass posts are stamped"5 OHMS-C1"left one) and the other is"5 OHMS-P2" There are no other markings, inside ... moreor out, but everything seems to be there, including the Bakelite"cork" in the top. Note also that the tallest brass rod/knob on the device can be pulled up and down while the top is in place. The interior of the box is sheathed in copper with soldered corners. We estimate its age based on the fact that the firm was not formed until 1881, and changed its name to Cambridge& Paul Instrument Co. in 1920. That and the overall look of the instrument and the materials with which it is contructed, would suggest a ca 1900 date, plus or minus 10 years. The apparatus weighs exactly 10 pounds. The high bid price includes domestic standard shipping. For International bidders, we will allow a shipping credit in the amount of domestic standard shipping. All items must be paid within 10 days unless previous arrangements have been made with seller. Thank you for bidding!

Antique Saccharimeter Polariscope Polarimeter Scientific Test Instrument w/ Box
Antique Polariscope Polarimeter Saccharimeter Scientific Test Instrument Original Wood Box Up for bid. An antique Saccharimeter, which is a specialized version of a Polariscope or Polarimeter. A polarimeter is a scientific instrument used to measure theangle of rotation caused by passing polarized light through an optically activesubstance. A saccharimeter is a form of polarimeter for measuring the concentration of sugar solutions and is used most often in the sugar industry for determining the qualityof both the juice from sugar cane and the refined sucrose. This instrument is 19-1/4" long. Black rail and silver colored metal hardware, a beautiful black and green central tube, a small measuring scale at one end, and lots of dials and adjustable eyepieces. It has a door in the round cylinder that was meant to take another cylinder, most ... morelikely containing the material to be tested. Much of it is not magnetic, although I am not sure of the material. The bottom has a threaded hole that I think was meant to receive a tripod. There is a small round paper tag on it that says"Dennison" most likely the university, and a sticker inside the box that says"University of Cincinnati" with a number. The hardwood box is dovetailed, has antique hardware, is 20-3/8" long, 5-3/4" wide and 4" high, and has several compartments made by wood partitions screwed to the box from the outside. No key. You now know as much as I do! I have no idea what pieces may be missing. But it is a great conversation piece! Condition: The box has one significant split(see last photo) and a marred finish. But is solid and well made. The instrument itself needs cleaned and polished, and the green/black finish on the tube has marks and scratches on it. I do not know how or if it works. Great collectible piece! Please note that I will be having a knee replacement soon so that thislisting and all my others will be ending during the second week of October. Ifnot before, and I do not know when they will resume. If you se
Antique Central Scientific Apparatus Instrument Electro Magnetic Gauge Meter
Antique Central Scientific Apparatus Instrument Electro Magnetic Meter I have quite a few unusual antique scientific items listed this week so please view my other listings to save on combined shipping! Presented for your consideration is this Antique Central Scientific Physics Lab Electro Magnetic gauge. This rare demonstration piece is circa late 1800s around the turn of the century. These old instruments were used in a university classroom laboratory setting to demonstrate the principles of electricity. I am not quite sure to the exact function of this piece or even what its called but. It is pretty neat. It appears to provide a path for electricity to flow into a desired object but, I am not really sure. This piece measures approximately 9 1/4 inches tall, the base measures approximately 12 inches by 4 inches. The base and stand are constructed ... moreof a very fine hardwood, and this piece remains in very good antique condition. The"guillotine" style wire connections work perfectly. Overall, this could use a little cleaning and TLC, but I will leave that option up to the winning bidder, as that is the best choice. In my opinion it looks perfect just the way it is, but I know these things are always subjective, anyways, I have done my best to describe it from every aspect. Please use the pictures to get a better idea of this condition and details.
