The lens itself is marked Spencer Lens Co 41929. 4MMN AP.0.75. I would describe the condition of the piece as far as appearance goes as very good with expected fine scratches and nice patina. I have no way of knowing if the lens glass itself is functional but it appears to be unblemished. The overall approximate dimensions of the canister are: height- 1 3/4" diameter 1" top, 7/8" bottom. Vintage Old Antique Spencer Lens Co Microscope Buffalo, NY U.S.A. Brass and Cast
Up for auction. Is a great example of a Vintage Antique early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo, NY, U.S.A. that I recently picked up. It has a wonderful patina, aged look to it. The serial number on this microscope is 67927. According to my research. That serial number places the Manufacturing date sometime between June 23, 1920 and May 23, 1921. This microscope is even OLDER than one that just recently sold for about $400. Both of the brass knobs turn and the mirror is intact. With"no cracks" It could use a cleaning if you prefer the polished look, but I know some collectors prefer the aged natural look, so it has been left untouched. I am no expert in microscopes. Antique Microscope SPENCER LENS CO. Mod. 12374 Optics are by Spencer Lens Co.
The microscope is missing the two slide holders. The backside of the mirror is missing most of its finish. But is not broken. The optics appear to be ok. I have no way to really test them. The base is cast iron and the rest of the body is brass. The eyepiece is numbered 10. The two lens are numbered 29221 and 28817. The numbers are hard to read. I think I have it right. The name on the base is faded but still readable. The lens swivels easily and snaps in place. The hole scope body rotates back and forth to find your comfort zone. The eyepiece rides up and down on its track easily. Fully extended it is 12 3/4" high. Front-to- back is 5 7/8" and it is 4 1/8" wide. Questions. Comments, concerns. Vintage Spencer Lens Co. Buffalo. NY Magnifying Lens lamp in very good working condition with areas of minor paint wear and minor surface corrosion to the lamp housing and cast iron base. The base has the number"7" painted on it which appears quite old. It also has"Bio" painted on it which appears this was applied at a later date than the"7" The fabric covered power line cord and Bakelite plug cover have minor wear and fraying where it meets the socket. The power line cord measures 5' feet long. The bulb socket was made by GE with a Bryant power switch and has a patent date of"Nov.9. 1915" and rated for 250W. The glass magnifying lens is in excellent condition with very light. Fine surface scratches. The lamp measures 11" inches in length with a 5" diameter at its widest. The base ring ... moremeasures 5" inches diameter and the vertical height adjusting rod stands 10" inches in height. The lamp's height adjustment lock is frozen in place. Most likely from corrosion. The lock has been treated with WD40, that magic fluid developed by NASA, and hopefully will have movement tomorrow. I'll post the outcome. The bulb included is 100W and projects an impressive spotlight across the room! Very nice item!
