The lens itself is marked Spencer Lens Co 41929. 4MMN AP.0.75. I would describe the condition of the piece as far as appearance goes as very good with expected fine scratches and nice patina. I have no way of knowing if the lens glass itself is functional but it appears to be unblemished. The overall approximate dimensions of the canister are: height- 1 3/4" diameter 1" top, 7/8" bottom. Original mirror and lens, vertical adjustment, and adjustable lens arm and lens stand. The stage is an open area with no plate but the original clips are present. Measures 8" in height when fully raised. Base is 5" X 3 5/8" In good condition considering age. The mirror and lens show scratches but no cracks. There are scratches and wear to the black finish with spots of oxidation throughout. Great antique piece that displays well and would make a fine addition to any collection. Estate ~ Vintage American Optical Spencer Microscope in Wood Box + EXTRA ITEMS
Spencer microscope in the original old wooden case complete with the key that locks the door! The case has the initials AO on the door that I know is American Optical. The microscope itself has the name Spencer on it with the#250048. To give you an idea of size. The case measures 15" tall x 9" wide x 8-3/4" deep. The microscope base measures approx. 8-1/2" x 5" in size with a height of approx. 13" in the cranked down position. There are a couple extras that come with this piece, the 3 boxes of slides, some sort of light called Scope light Substage lamp that looks like it was never used. There are also 2 small amber plastic bottles inside the door of the case that are not pictured. It is best that you view the photos to see exactly what I have here ~ sorry I'm not a microscope expert! Condition: The microscope ... morelooks pretty good I do not see any broken glass in the lenses or cracks to the microscope. The body appears to be brass with a blackened finish that has tiny edge wear exposing the brass. Not obvious until you look very close but I want to point it out. The scope light is in original box with very little to no use. The wooden case is covered in a sharkskin like material that is worn, the handle at the top is there but tattered. As far as I can tell everything is in good working condition except for as you can see in the pics, the upper shutter type thing on the condenser is rusty. It comes in the original wood case. I don't have the key for it.

Vintage Old Antique Spencer Lens Co Microscope Buffalo, NY U.S.A. Brass and Cast
Up for auction. Is a great example of a Vintage Antique early 1900s microscope by Spencer of Buffalo, NY, U.S.A. that I recently picked up. It has a wonderful patina, aged look to it. The serial number on this microscope is 67927. According to my research. That serial number places the Manufacturing date sometime between June 23, 1920 and May 23, 1921. This microscope is even OLDER than one that just recently sold for about $400. Both of the brass knobs turn and the mirror is intact. With"no cracks" It could use a cleaning if you prefer the polished look, but I know some collectors prefer the aged natural look, so it has been left untouched. I am no expert in microscopes. A stain to the brass on the right side by the platform. Top of the under lens has some corrision to the metal. The base has some loss to it's black paint. I don't know what model this is but it is very early. The bottom of the stand is stamped. I62 and C.L. CO or something like that. It is difficult to read. This is a almost a completely solid BRASS microscope and a genuine antique. Complete with microscope box, objective lens, slides and slide covers. Missing eye piece lens. ANTIQUE Vintage BRASS SPENCER Lab Microscope with EXQUISITE BELL JAR ENCLOSURE
This is an ANTIQUE Spencer BRASS Microscope. It was given to me by my family doctor in 1955- he had it in medical school. It comes with a very tall beautiful GLASS VESSEL(Bell Jar) enclosure that envelopes the microscope. SEE PHOTOS) The Bell Jar consists of very thick heavy glass with a flat smooth bottom that creates a tight seal. It is 19.25 tall x 11” diameter at the base. And a 9” diameter cylinder. The combination of the vessel and microscope makes for an exquisite presentation. Both have been kept in air conditioned storage for 51 YEARS! The microscope is in very good condition. Esthetically& functionally. It seems to have an unusually INTRICATE STAGE MECHANISM and lens mounts under the stage(see photos) It is marked Spencer Lens Co. Buffalo New York. GORGEOUS 1900 SPENCER ANTIQUE MICROSCOPE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH vintage
What a beautiful EARLY microscope! Serial number 9915 indicates it was made in 1900. 115years old. Used at the University of Pittsburgh. Eyepiece reads U of P also. The base is lead filled red bronze. Stage is pure copper. What beautiful workmanship! Still works perfect.
