I have provided key conditional notes based on my review of the visuals and mechanics. I am very pleased to offer this attractive antique binocular microscope by Charles Baker of London. A handsome. Stately presentation piece! This appears to be an early example of the bar-limb design first pioneered by Andrew Ross. As might be expected with a mechanical antique of this age. It is not in perfect, complete condition. Descriptions can sometimes be subjective. And details/ condition of mechanical antiques difficult to capture in photos. While I am passionate about antique microscopes and enjoy hanging onto them briefly as a hobby/ admirer. I am not able to yet call myself an expert so please review as well, and do not hesitate to ask questions/ request more photos. I found this antique prepared microscope slide mixed in a large lot of Botany slides I recently acquired. The slide is labeled" NO 2923. Melophagus Ovinus, Entire, Albert E. Galigher, Berkeley California" Melophagus Ovinus is a Sheep ked These flies are often known as keds or hippoboscids. They are medium sized wingless flies with the head not distinct from the thorax. The eyes are inconspicuous and the body covered with bristles and setae. They are not typical cyclorrhaphan flies because of the adaptations of the adults to an ectoparasitic life. Melophagus ovinus. The sheep ked, established itself in the cooler areas of the tropics and can be mistaken for a tick. However, only larval ticks have six legs and sheep keds are much larger than larval ticks; nymphal and adult ticks have eight legs, and in all ticks the body is not divided ... moreinto head, thorax and abdomen. Original antique cased brass Leitz microscope slide stage This is an original brass microscope stage for a Leitz continental style microscope. It is signed. E. Leitz, Wetzler" engraved on the surface. It dates to circa late 1800's or very early 1900's. The stage measures 5" x 6" overall in its closed position. The wooden case is 6" x 5.25" x 1.75" in size. The mechanical stage fits onto the microscope stage with a pin and is secured by a thumb screw from the top.
