For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique ... morebrass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has a round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

This is one of the more rare Bausch& Lomb American Type microscope models. It was only manufactured over just a brief 3-year period from 1889 to 1891. The featured instrument is very similar in design to the B&L“The Model” microscope. But it lacks the rack and pinion focus mechanism and is built upon a horseshoe shaped foot with rectangular pillars instead of the“Y”shaped foot with round pillars that characterized“The Model. This instrument bears the name of the manufacturer in fancy script on the top rear face of the circular stage. Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Please see the accompanying close-up image of this inscription) However, this instrument does not bear a typical serial number. For some unknown reason, Bausch& Lomb did not inscribe serial numbers on their earlier microscopes. Instead, they stamped the serial number of the instrument in the front lip of the floor of the wood case that they normally supplied with the microscope. Fortunately, the Cherry wood case that accompanies this instrument has the serial number stamped into the front floor of the case(see close-up image) The serial number“6890” dates the instrument to the year 1889, which plac

Antique Chicago Lens & Instrument Co. Bausch & Lomb Microscope
Antique/ vintage microscope. Has a decal under the stage" Chicago Lens& instrument Co. Tube is marked" Bausch& Lomb Optical Co, Rochester NY" Didn't find any info online for the Chicago Lens Company. Apparently the Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. name was used between 1876 to the mid 40's. Comparing the styles, I would place a guess ion the 1920's, but please use your own knowledge to help you determine the type and vintage of this. Has a two lens turret, lenses are Bausch& Lomb with one marked 4mm 0.85 and the other 16mm 0.25. Eyepiece lens is marked only with 10x. There is a diaphragm under the stage. It moves a bit, but is stiff to turn and the shutter looks to be a bit distorted. Adjuster moves the tube up and down as it should. The large brass knob at the top of the arm doesn't move easily. I didn't ... moretry to loosen it with any tools. My knowledge of microscopes it pretty limited and I didn't want to do any damage. The pivot between the base and tube appears to require a special tool to loosen, so I left it alone as well. Stands 13 3/4 tall extended. Base is 7 x 4. Has some wear, tarnish and accumulated dust. ANTIQUE BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO. SOLID BRASS MICROSCOPE - Pat. Date 2/16/1897
The item up for sale in this auction is a Bausch& Lomb Optical Company Microscope. There is a patent date of February 2nd. 1897 on the micro focus adjustment wheel. I tested all of the lenses using a piece of paper with writing on it, each lens was able to get a fairly clear picture. The mirror does have some blemishes on it and some appear to be permanent. The frame of the microscope is all brass and is in pretty good shape. There is definitely some wear and tarnish on it but nothing major. I can't find any missing pieces and everything appears to be in really good working condition. The microscope will be shipped out in a wooden case along with a box of about a dozen glass slides. I don't think the case is original, but somebody obviously made it specifically for the microscope, so it should go with it. If you have any questions, ... moreI'll be happy to answer them. MICROSCOPE. TRAVIS UNIVERSAL DARK FIELD STOP J. SWIFT OF LONDON. DIATOMS.
TRAVIS UNIVERSAL DARK FIELD STOP BY J. SWIFT OF LONDON MOST RARE! A MUSEUM ITEM! This is a variable diameter(from 1.8 cm to 2.5 cm) dark-field stop with an external diameter of 3.4 centimeters. It was made by the prestigious Victorian company of James Powel Swift(founded in 1853) In use the Travis stop is placed on the filter-holder ring located below the condenser and iris diaphragm of most microscopes made in the 1880-1960 period. Besides providing dark-field illumination for objectives of low. Medium, and high power, the Travis stop provides Oblique Circular Illumination, a contrast- and detail-enhancing technique that has gained considerable popularity in recent years. Hartley(The Light Microscope its Use& Evolution. 1993) comments on the Travis stop as follows, This component not only simplified dark-ground illumination, but if used ... morewith the substage iris, offered zonal illumination like a Heine condenser[bold in the original] And“it was of particular value to diatomists. This most attractive attachment was difficult to manufacture and hence expensive. Very few examples have survived. Condition. Mechanically is excellent; the movement of the blades has a silky feeling to it. Cosmetically, the arm is a replacement and the paint shows its age. The reflections in the center of most pictures are images of the ring lights. Shipping to the USA and Europe(Foreign shipping is $7.00) This is a no return auction; please see the pictures and ask questions before bidding. Thanks and good luck!

Large Double Pillar Antique, Brass Microscope – Signed G. Potter
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Beautiful Double Pillar Antique. Brass Microscope* With Engraved Signature(G. Potter) on the Scope* Stands about 19 inches high. And is fairly heavy(base appears to be iron) Please read the description in full. Review all photos and ask all questions prior to bidding. Happy to provide addition photos if requested. This is an antique. Likely over 100 years old(1800’s) so there is some minor wear commensurate with age. I have provided key conditional notes based on my review of the visuals and mechanics. Overall. A very nice presentation piece. It is solid with a really neat. Functioning two-way mechanical stage. When I purchased this a couple months ago. It was covered in very stubborn layers of dust, grime and dirt. I correctly assumed that there was a beautiful microscope ... moreunderneath. The two knobs allow the stage to move fairly smoothly from side-to-side. And up and down. Although the knob that would otherwise adjust the scope/ tube is missing(see hole shown in photos near the Potter signature) It can be fairly easily slid manually(i.e. might be better as a presentation piece than a fully functioning microscope) The optics are not perfect. But in the highest position of the scope, you can view slides(but with limited range of adjustment) There is a screw missing from the pole that holds the mirror. But everything still holds sturdy. I also fully disassembled and cleaned with premium quality polish. Which took about six hours. The decision to polish an antique is a challenge and personal preference. Ideally. I like to avoid polishing, but in this case the original patina was too far gone. My purpose for buying this item was curiosity of what was under all that grime. The real benefit and fun of polishing something like this is revealing the neat scope in close to what it would have looked like in its original state over 100 years ago. As I have now satisfied this curiosity(and have very limited space) I am
Antique Stereographic Microscope Ernst Leitz Wetzlar C1885
The scope is offered as found. It is 9 inches tall as shown. The serial number is 7289. There are three vertical adjustments. Two manual with little locking levers and one by rack and pinion. There is no case. Marked on the shoulder of the prism housing is:a5-10x” a10-20x” and“a15-30x” which is the power of the oculars but only the pair marked“a15-30x” is present on this unit. The glass stage dovetails into the brass base and is a bit chippy due, no doubt, to careless re-insertion or dropping after being removed for cleaning. The surface of the stage is scratched with what looks like scalpel or knife marks so it would appear that the scope was used for dissection. The optics are good. It has been sitting on the shelf for a good many years and needs a good cleaning but there is no damage or deterioration except as noted. Please email for further ... moreinformation or pictures. RARE Circa 1870's French Brass Continental Microscope Constant Vérick E Hartnack
Vérick brass continental microscope– circa 1870's Constant Vérick advertised himself as a élève spécial de E. Hartnack(special pupil of E. Hartnack) both in the signatures he used for some of his instruments and in his catalogs. He apprenticed to Edmund Hartnack before going off on his own around 1877. By the mid 1870's he established his own firm where a number of different microscope models were produced. Among which is the continental style model presented here. The base of this meticulously constructed instrument is signed in elegant script, C. Vérick, élève special de E. It does however have the original key and working ... morelock. I believe there may have been a small mirror or lens that attached to the clip but I am not sure. Other than that I think everything else is here and there may even be a few extras that did not originally come with this microscope. The matching serial number on the wooden case and the microscope itself is#2754. This is a pretty low number.

Antique 19C Ross London #263 Brass/Black Microscope Objective/Lenses/Case
19th Century Ross of London#263 Microscope This piece is SO strange.
