R & J BECK 31 CORNHILL LONDON #6222 ANTIQUE * LARGE BEST * BINOCULAR MICROSCOPE
LARGE BEST* BINOCULAR MICROSCOPE R& J BECK 31 CORNHILL LONDON#6222 Up for auction is a spectacular Victorian era Binocular Microscope dated to around or possibly before c1875 and made with precision craftsmanship by R& J. Beck of 31 Cornhill. London- Serial# 6222. This was the top-of-the-line model produced by the firm at the time. R& J. Becks' names, address, and serial number are engraved on one of feet on the tripod base(shown in photo) The microscope is constructed in solid brass with a bright lacquered finish. It looks to be complete and in good working order. All mechanical movements are working well that I know of and when looking through the eye pieces, I see various levels of brightness of light when moving the mirror. I am obviously not very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the piece) The original surface ... morefinish show minor wear in spots and especially on the stage plate. The mirror on both sides show crazing and dirt, but reflects light as it should. There is no major damage on the brass. It has a little dirt in some of the cracks and crevasses, but a good cleaning will really bring out the beauty! I don't want to clean it. It should be cleaned professionally as it could be damaged. Please look at the photos very carefully and ask questions- I will try my best to answer anything and will add additional photos if there is anything that I didn't already capture. Although there is no box or accessories included, there is an extra 2" lens attached. This microscope was found at a collector's estate sale and I was absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to purchase and own such a beautiful piece that is also such an important example of microscopic history! This piece is very heavy and will be shipped with USPS signature delivery confirmation and full insurance. Shipping in the Continental US is predetermined. Alaska. I assume are all 1880 or before, some dated. Good luck. Shipping cost reflects shipping to USA. Outside the country shipping will be considerable more. I included some poor micro pics as I have no good system at this time. The gorgonian spicules is an AWESOME arrangement. There is even color(red) Must be part of the critter. I think I am undervaluing this but so be it. Thanks for looking! Did not include pic of foram group- too boring compared to the rest. Antique Martin Type Microscope in Superb Case labelled T. Harris and Son London
19th Century Martin type microscope in case. With restored eyepiece. Includes accessories as shown in pictures, including the slider shown in box and full set of 6 objectives plus lieberkuhn objective. Lieberkuhn is in good condition with silvering that reflects light Box is labelled inside"T. Harris and Son. Opticians, 52 Gt. Russell St. Bloomsbury, London" and is beautifully made and in very good condition with contemporary hardware. Finish and quality is extraordinary. No key. Note that the eyepiece is a restoration. I purchased this microscope in this case with the accessories. Objectives etc. included here, but it was missing the original eyepiece, so I made one out of brass stock and lenses, modelling it closely to match the design and optics of another Martin type microscope I have- The three lenses in the eyepiece closely ... morematch the optical profile of the original and are assembled using similar mounting and distances. This was quite a labour of love! Please see pictures. The reproduction eyepiece completes the proper appearance for display and also functions so that the microscope can be used to view subjects, I have attached a picture of a leaf viewed through the microscope with incident lighting. Note that there is a slight smudge on one side of the periphery of the inside eye lens which is visible in this image. Other things to note: The rack is missing a couple of teeth, so care needs to be taken in that part of the travel. The mirror's silvering is damaged but does reflect enough light to view images. Please see pictures for indication of condition. Does not include the bullseye lens that would originally fit in the case.
Antique Society of Arts Pattern Microscope, Superb in Case with Key and Livebox
Superb 19th Century Society of Arts Pattern Microscope. Brass with blackened foot attached to base board that fits in its case. No makers mark. Style of stand is similar to Watson, Crouch, etc. of that period, but I have no idea who the maker was. Nice case that uncommonly comes with working key and lock. Comes with Livebox. Eyepiece and one objective with case. Substage aperture wheel. Condition please see pictures. Optics. Mirror and mechanics all work great. Microscope functions well resolving images as it is. Rack appears to have all teeth and works smoothly. Only ting that I ntoiced is a very slight play in the stem, which may just mean something needs to be tightened- does not affect use when testing it out, or appearance otehrwise. Very nice, original finish. Please see pictures for indication of condition. Displays beautifully.

Vintage R. & J. Beck Ltd. Microscope. All Brass, made in London: nice condition.
Here we have a very nice early 20th Century brass Microscope made by R. J. Beck. Ltd, London. The serial number is 27083. The microscope is in very good condition for its age. I lightly cleaned the dust from it. And examined a piece of hair. It works very well, aside from the dust that appears under power. Most of the original Lacquer is still on the brass, probably about 95% or so. Everything works as it should. Including the course and fine focus. The instrument will tip back and stay in place at various angles as it should as well. The iris on the condenser is also functional, however, the leaves were a little banged up when I got it, so I took it apart and put it back together.consequently, I make no assertions that the iris will stay in tact after repeated use. There are two objective lenses on it. One is marked X50. Watson B3379, Para ... more4mm NA 70. The other is marked R& J Beck Ltd 2/3 14mm A. These lenses thread into a dual housing that can be rolled to select one lens or the other. The housing for the lenses slides into place on the microscope as opposed to threading on, and it doesn't seem to fit as tight as it should, though it will stay in place. The mirror is in good shape, with a little clouding around the edges. There is one small ding on the microscope. As pictured in the last pic. It is about the size of a pencil eraser and about 1 milimeter deep; it does not affect anything. Good luck bidding. I will ship International. But rates will vary; please contact me for an international shipping quote before bidding.

Happy to provide addition photos if requested. This is an antique. Likely around 140 years old, so there is some wear commensurate with age. I have provided key conditional ... morenotes based on my review of the visuals and mechanics. I am very pleased to offer this attractive antique binocular microscope by Charles Baker of London. A handsome. Stately presentation piece! This appears to be an early example of the bar-limb design first pioneered by Andrew Ross. As might be expected with a mechanical antique of this age. It is not in perfect, complete condition. Descriptions can sometimes be subjective. And details/ condition of mechanical antiques difficult to capture in photos. While I am passionate about antique microscopes and enjoy hanging onto them briefly as a hobby/ admirer. I am not able to yet call myself an expert so please review as well, and do not hesitate to ask questions/ request more photos. I have tried my best to thoroughly identify any issues/ notes based on a top-to-bottom visual review. 1. No box or other accessories included beyond shown in the photos(as is) 2. The adjustment knob controlling the vertical position of the scope works reasonably nicely between the highest and lowest position. Moves fairly smoothly and there appear to be no kinks in the treads(see photos) 3. The microsc

Antique Brass Microscope (ca. 1875?) - Dual Power, Original Wood Case
Antique Brass Microscope Double Pillar Design Dual Power Magnification This microscope was likely made in France around the year 1875. This is based on information and photos posted on the internet. I am not an expert in this field and cannot guarantee the age or country of manufacture of this piece. Two powers of magnification are available. Unscrewing the outer objective lens provides lower power viewing. It is in very good working order. Although lenses might benefit from some cleaning. I have not detected any damage to the optics. It has a double sided mirror illuminator with the concave side being damaged(see photos) The flat mirror is excellent. The multiple aperture diaphragm under the stage is in very good condition. Other than some blemishes on the finish, I am not aware of any significant defects. Please examine photos. Height is ... moreapprox 10 inches. Beautiful brass construction. Base is cast iron with green/brass lacquered finish. 40" is stamped into the yoke holding the main tube(see photo) 11" is stamped in the corner of the bottom of the stage(see photo) Unique extension arm for magnifier. Case appears original. The top and bottom boards have some splits from drying out and there are some small paint splotches on the finish. Please refer to photos of the case. The piece inside the case that supports the neck of the microscope is loose. But is present. All latches and hinges are in good order. This piece is offered as you see it and as I have described to the best of my limited ability. Please examine the photos carefully. Contact me through eBay with any questions that you may have. I will be very happy to respond. Satisfaction is guaranteed

Brass Microscope by Spencer Lens Company - circa 1895 SN# 1704
Brass Microscope by Spencer Lens Company- circa 1895 SN# 1704 The first microscopes bearing name Spencer Lens Company were produced in 1895. This microscope is serial number 1704 out of the original 3.000 to 4,000 models produced that year. This particular model is an all brass continental design with an extendable nickel plated draw tube. A horse shoe foot, and a single vertically positioned fine focus dial with engraved graduations. The original lacquer has worn off and the brass finish shows wear in accordance with it's age. The lenses and eyepiece still work but the mirror is missing. Mirrors from some of my other antique microscopes including an early 1900's Bausch& lomb jug handle and circa 1907 spencer will fit onto this microscope relatively well but I do not have a spare to sell along with this particular item. History: ... moreCharles Spencer was the first American maker of microscopes. Publishing his first catalog in 1838. Later, in 1865, he began operating as C.A. Spencer& Sons. Between 1890 and 1895 the company operated by the name of Spencer& Smith. But in 1895 it became the Spencer Lens Company. American Optical bought the Spencer Lens Company in 1935 and by 1945 it was known as the Instrument Division of American Optical Company.

I am also the founder of WorthPoint and would encourage all to visit it if you want to research antique prices.I focus on happy repeat customers and love what I do and try to ensure all customers are happy. I do not stay glued to my computer and have a real job so please do not expect instantaneous answers. Consider your source when buying. I have sold over 11.000 items on eBay and have 99.9% positive feedback. I charge GA sales tax to GA residents. I specialize in paper. Photos, coins and militaria. I sell about anything except reproductions. If it is not old, I say so. If there is ... morea defect, I also say so. If you know more than me about something, that is OK, as I do not mind learning or being told that I am wrong and strive for accuracy. You can always learn more in this business. If I make a mistake, and we all do, I will take responsibility for it and you can return the item. If buying internationally. Email me for final postage if you are the winner. eBay's quoted postage tends to be too high for a 1st class envelope.
