White" His handwriting and ringing patterns are highly distinctive. The three specimens are cross sections of woods/plants. Components of plants rotate plane-polarized light. Complete Set of 100 Microscope Sample Slides in its Original Case. Germany. 1920s Interesting microscope sample slide set made in the 1920s and conveniently stored in their protecting case. The set comes from Germany. It is the perfect complement for an antique microscope. Though the samples can also be watched with a modern instrument. The set contains one hundred sample slides, perfectly organized in their grooves and correctly labeled. The samples. As usual, rest on rectangular glass slides. All of them have a paper label with the name or description of the sample, written by hand in black ink. There are animal specimens, different substances and parts of organisms difficult to identify at first sight. Each slide is stored in its corresponding groove, duly numbered. Inside the case’s lid we can see a paper sheet, also numbered and designed ... moreto write down each sample’s description. Nevertheless, the sheet is unused. The case is flat and rectangular in shape. It is made of solid beech wood and cardboard. Outside it is lined with a black faux-leather material. With a delicate diamond-shaped print. The lining is in good condition, showing only some slight signs of wear. The case also keeps the original hinges and shutting hooks, all well preserved. In the lid we can read the inscription MIKROSKOPISCHE PRAEPARATE(German for microscope samples) engraved in the lining. Any collector of scientific antiques will appreciate the interest and beauty of this great sample slide set from the early 20th century. Measurements(Open) Width: 10.6 in/27 cm. Depth: 14.9 in/38 cm. DIATOMACEAE POLARISCOPE MICROSCOPIC SLIDES A set of diatomaceae polariscope microscopic slides. The preparator probably S. Waller. This is a set of nine( 9) slides that area thick and heavy. Prepared with exquisite detail and perfection. Some of the slides are labeled: Diatomaceae- various locations around the world, Diatomaceae Polycystina, Diatomaceae New Zealand, Diatomaceae Nova Scotia, Diatomaceae France, Diatomaceae Maryland USA, Diatomaceae Shale see images. The preparations have a black circle in the center of the slide with the specimen inside and a square of brown"raised coating or wax" around the circle. Each slide label has the letters"S" in one corner and"CB" in another corner- see image. There is one( 1) slide that has been broken at the bottom and the slide label is still holding it in place. An ... moreattempt to repair the slide at some point was made but the slide is still intact and does not affect the specimen- see image of slides in box. Very precise preparations. The slide labels appear to be neatly"hand written" The slides are in a black slide box labeled Microscopical Preparations embossed in gold lettering. The slide box measures 4 1/2"L x 3 3/4"W x 1 1/4"D and is opened by placing a finger into a hole in one( 1) end of the box and push the box open- see image. I am not an expert on microscope slides. I will do my best to describe these slides. The 25 slides date to the early 1900's. A couple of them have the dates on them of 1901 and 1906. I believe they are all botany related. All are labeled except 2 slides are not labeled so I don't know what they are. I am not sure but there may be a couple of duplicates or they maybe just a different stage of the species. The wood slide box appears to be original to the period. However the top of the box has interesting Devil side show art by Tom Sciacca. The box is signed by him. A collection of microscope slide specimen. Appears to be about 92 in the box. So that would probably make 2 missing, the register shows 94 specimen. The dates written on slides with description are 1932. The information at bottom of Object Registration page states: David S. Sarner'33 E.A.M. House Bucknell University.
