Brass microscope made for Temple University in 1915#82. it comes with is original 1915 handmade box which is nicely dovetailed together. It is fastened with a pivoting handle at the top. A lock which has a key and does work, a mount on the bottom to hold the microscope, and original wood sliding holders at the top. The microscope is in very nice condition and all the components work accordingly. it is an extremely heavy piece and measures 11 inches tall by 7 inches by 4 inches. the box is also in nice antique condition and has acquired a lovely patina from age.measures 15 1/2 by 7 by 8 1/2 inches. it is a very nice quality set the only piece missing it the top eye piece but can be purchased right here on ebay. VINTAGE ANTIQUE JUG HANDLE MODEL BAUSCH & LOMB CO. MICROSCOPE WITH CASE
I happen to own a very cool and keenly designed early Jug Handle 1900's Bausch and Lomb Microscope with variable light adjustment mirror on the bottom that can be flipped to amplify light even more. As you can tell there is only one top focal piece which does not seem to be removable or stationary at any position but can easily be raised or lowered. The lower magnifiers are easily switched by turning the mechanism either to the right or left. At present the microscope sits a 11.5 inches but can as high as 14 inches. The items seems to never have been professionally polished and has what appears to be blued iron with brass. The item could clean up really well if you are into that sort of thing. All knobs are smooth and appears to be operational. I have peered down through the whole but have not tried to focus in on anything currently. ... moreBut I can see that there are no major obstructions to doing so. Below the platen, is an aperture control such as the shutter on a camera. It seems to be functional, but is a bit bent slightly at the closed position from a bit of misuse or old age. The Case- Seems to be the original case and is made purely out of some kind of hard wood but can not be totally for sure. If you look closely at the finish. It seems to have set out in a moist area for some time and allow the case to mildew which has dicolored the varnish a bit. Looking at the front, it appears that there is a small label that says Microscope, yet is hard to make out. Some clown, at some time, decided that he'd be a wise guy and appeared to have slightly carved a larger spelling of Microscope on to the wood but is barely noticeable, but I wanted to mention that. The lock mechanism seems to be intact but there is no key. Baucsh& Lomb must have been in Rochester. NY because I can see it on the lower magnifying lenses which also can be removed for examination or replacement. Inside the case. There seems to be some kind of area that would hold more lenses, but I am not able to remove or jar the wood holder away from

Knobs rotate easily, turret section rotates. Bottom mirror is not blackened, lenses work. Microscope is marked"pat. Feb. 16 1897" on top adjusting knob. Comes with 2 eye pieces marked 10& 7.5. Believe this is a medical type microscope. Comes with original wood box which is in fair condition. Structurally intact, but with a fair amount of nicks& bumps. Do not have the key for the lock on front and there are some paint smudges on it. Inside box is in good condition. Has sliding"drawers" for holding lenses or other vials which are in good condition, slide out& removable& replaceable easily. Comes with one metal vial that held ... morea type of oil which appears to have congealed. But holder still interesting and possibly reusable. This Spencer Lens Co. 1900 Microscope has a Brass Body and a Cast Iron Base. The only large part that is magnetic is the base. The eye piece is 8X. And the bottom lens is a Bausch& Lomb 2/3 Series 1, 25 NA. The Patent was given on December 11, 1900 with the date that the Microscope was made was August 28, 1906. The microscope is about 11 5/8" in height. The base is about 5 7/8" deep with the width of about 4 3/16" I found this microscope at an estate of a Dr. from Illinois. This microscope also comes with the original Bausch and Lomb box and two Bausch and Lomb Brinell Scope Stage Micrometer Discs. While I have never used one of these, this appears to be in relatively good working condition to my untrained eye(although there are some specks which appear when looking through the eyepiece) Some quick internet research reveals that this microscope was“ designed for measuring the impressions made during the Brinell Ball Test for estimating the hardness of a metal. Surface wear to the body of the Microscope is minimal, with only isolated scratches on the black painted surfaces. We rate the overall condition of the Microscope as very good. Antique American Agriculturist Orange Judd Bausch & Lomb Field Microscope w/ Box
This auction is for an antique field microscope. Made by the Bausch& Lomb co. for the Orange Judd"American Agriculturist" magazine. The American Agriculturist magazine offered this microscope, which could be used to examine seeds, find adulterants in food and identify insects by the readers of the magazine. Orange Judd(1822-1892) was a chemist, editor and publisher of the magazine. It has 3 working lenses, which are marked B&L Co. and it measures just 2 1/8" tall. Microscope is complete and in great condition with no breaks. The box has wear and labeled on the top as shown. The photos show it well. I will be happy to combine multiple purchases to save on shipping. I found the following paragraph by doing a brief internet search. In 1877. The American Agriculturist announced that every subscriber could receive a microscope ... morewith their 1878 subscription for an additional 40 cents. Non-subscribers could purchase the microscope for $1.50. The publisher claimed that 125.000 of these hard rubber stand, 3 lens microscopes were manufactured for the 1878 mailing. This model, especially with its original cardboard box, is highly sought by collectors. Unlike the great variety of“household” and small drum microscopes which were being imported from France in the 1870's, The American Agriculturist microscope was made in America and designed by Bausch& Lomb. What a great find. Looks like a beautiful museum piece. For it's age I would say condition is decent. Microscope moves and appears to function but the lens are dirty and need to be cleaned. To be fully functional I would believe it needs a good thorough cleaning/ oiling ect. It appears to be mostly complete. Pictures show the different lens and eyepieces that are included. The wooden case has some wear. It has a crack on one side but is still solid and working. The lock is broken and appears the key broke off inside of it. This beautiful brass instrument was manufactured by Bausch& Lomb. C. 1890, and sold under a number of brand names. This particular instrument has"QUEEN& CO. PHILADELPHIA" engraved on the brass stage. It is constructed of painted cast iron. Lacquered brass, and nickel plate finishes, the latter to the drawtube. It features rack and pinion coarse focus but no fine focus. It has a swinging tailpiece with plano mirror which is gimballed but cannot slide up and down the tailpiece. This was part of the Bausch& Lomb Professional series. And marketed as the Library model, a microscope of solid and basic construction. It is a shame it is missing some parts but it would make a great project for someone. A fully restored model like this with a low serial would easily be worth a few hundred dollars. The microscope is 12" high on a 5 1/2" X 4" horseshoe base of heavy ebonized cast. The box is 14" X 8" X 7"and looks like it is made from a tropical hardwood- likely mahogany.

Up for bid is an antique brass Bausch& Lomb compound monocular microscope with a black"horseshoe" base. The serial# on the base token says' 26518' which would date the item to 1897. There are no side clips on the stage. Underneath is an undamaged two-sided mirror with a diameter of 1 3/4. The mirror is on a gimbal attached to a swinging tailpiece. The draw tube measures app. 5 1/2" tall and there is a removable 1" eyepiece also marked" tube length 1600MM. There are 2 objectives with the microscope. Marked Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. 1/6. 82 NA and Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. marked 2/3. 25 NA. The focus is rack and pinion. ANTIQUE PERIOD 1910 BAUSCH& LOMB JUG HANDLE MICROSCOPE MODEL CAS This is a mint condition B&L Microscope that seems to have very little if any use. It has its original lacquer and paint that is in excellent condition. It comes with four objective. Four eyepieces, a mahogany case and a glass immersion oil or balsam bottle. This is not a simple version of the jug handle microscope. It is the research version with extensive add on such as adjustable condenser, rack and pinion movement, slide out condenser, and functioning iris diaphragm. Included are 2 dark ground(or dark field filters? and a blue glass filter. Also includes a handle to set the level of the tilt. Similar to the"CDS" Continental Model Microscope except for the stage and a metal tilt handle instead of a ivory handle. The microscope case lock is missing. Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester NY with a serial number of 82814. The serial number dating the instrument to 1910. The base plaque has Triple Alliance logo reflecting the union between Bausch& Lomb. Zeiss, and Saegmuller. The microscope stands 12 3/4” tall when fully closed and opens to typical Continental size and has a variable tube length of 15" The horseshoe base is iron. The profile of this instrument is one the most stylized of the jug handle designs. It features an integrated carry handle cut into a squared o f limb. The jug handle style is a variation of the Continental style and began around 1900 and ended around 1920. Billings Microscope Collection manual has a somewhat similar figure# 238.
