This antique wooden microscope box was used to store an early 1900's Bausch& Lomb Microscope. There is a brass carry handle and a brass badge on top reading" CHANDLER& FISCHER. Ltd. Surgical Dealers Winnipeg and Vancouver" The box has a lock and key, but the lock latch is stuck and currently does not move using the key. It may just need lubrication considering it is over 100 years old. There are two removable trays inside which are used to hold lens and objectives. Each tray has four storage holes. The box looks like it is made of oak wood(not sure exactly) This microscope storage case's outside measurements are 14.25" tall X 6-3/8" wide X 7-3/4" deep. This is an intriguing piece because of the serial number- 58333 is a low number for one of these B&L laboratory microscopes. It is a shame it is missing some parts but it would make a great project for someone. A fully restored model like this with a low serial would easily be worth a few hundred dollars. The microscope is 12" high on a 5 1/2" X 4" horseshoe base of heavy ebonized cast. The box is 14" X 8" X 7"and looks like it is made from a tropical hardwood- likely mahogany.

But this is NOT the shiny specimen some people might want for a museum. The iris is fully working. But very dusty. See photo. It simply needs to be removed from the microscope and properly cleaned. The stage clips have a lot of surface oxidation. And one of the original nuts has gone missing. See photo: As you see, I'll send you the one remaining stage clip nut, but there are 2 replacement nuts as well. Up for bid is an antique brass Bausch& Lomb compound monocular microscope with a black"horseshoe" base. The serial# on the base token says' 26518' which would date the item to 1897. There are no side clips on the stage. Underneath is an undamaged two-sided mirror with a diameter of 1 3/4. The mirror is on a gimbal attached to a swinging tailpiece. The draw tube measures app. 5 1/2" tall and there is a removable 1" eyepiece also marked" tube length 1600MM. There are 2 objectives with the microscope. Marked Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. 1/6. 82 NA and Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. marked 2/3. 25 NA. The focus is rack and pinion. Under the stage is a circular disc with four different size round holes and the disc rotates well. The brass shows age and is dusty. I have not cleaned it. It does not come with a ... morebox. It has its original lacquer and paint that is in excellent condition. It comes with four objective. Four eyepieces, a mahogany case and a glass immersion oil or balsam bottle. This is not a simple version of the jug handle microscope. It is the research version with extensive add on such as adjustable condenser, rack and pinion movement, slide out condenser, and functioning iris diaphragm. Included are 2 dark ground(or dark field filters? and a blue glass filter. Also includes a handle to set the level of the tilt. Similar to the"CDS" Continental Model Microscope except for the stage and a metal tilt handle instead of a ivory handle. The microscope case lock is missing. The microscope stands 12 3/4” tall when fully closed and opens to typical Continental size and has a variable tube length of 15" The horseshoe base is iron. The profile of this instrument is one the most stylized of the jug handle designs. It features an integrated carry handle cut into a squared o f limb. The jug handle style is a variation of the Continental style and began around 1900 and ended around 1920. Billings Microscope Collection manual has a somewhat similar figure# 238. Microscope Body- Wonderful condition on the brass microscope body. It has a great patina though there are some blemishes and small defects. But all below the norm for a microscope of this age. It will probably look great once it is polished/cleaned, but I'll leave that determination to the new owner. Please look at all the pictures for exact condition of the body. All parts seem to move freely. I viewed an onion skin with#2 eyepiece and 2/3 ocular and it focused fine and edges of image were sharp ... moreand clear. Some blemish of some sort on the top and various scratches on the exterior(See pictures) Very nice vintage handle. Interior is fitted to the microscope. There is a top drawer with vintage scalpel. On the inside of the door are 8 custom holders containing 3 lens cases for the microscope lenses and one of the eyepieces. One of those holders is either missing or is meant to fix something else. You can see in the pictures a small crack on one of the back corners. 1& 2 Eyepieces and 2/3. 1/6& 1/12 lenses. The#1 eyepiece + 1/12 lens gives a 900x magnification. The stand has some chips in the finish, with the most noticeable ones being on the"neck" see last photo. Also, the table has a crack on the corner(photo#9) and one of the slide clips has minor plate wear near the screw. The three lenses that come with the scope are 1mm, 4mm& 16mm(all three are marked Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. It has three objectives. A working aperture under the bed. Firm but easy movement in all parts. The eyepiece is of course included. The solid dovetail wooden case is by the Swift corporation and comes with two keys. This microscope is in exceptional condition!

Rare - Vintage Original Antique Bausch & Lomb Physician's Brass Microscope 1885
Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. Rochester NY Early version of the Investigator model microscope. C. 1890 The Investigator model was patented by Bausch& Lomb in 1876. And produced into the 1890’s. This model has a double nosepiece and original eyepiece. The optical system produces clear images and good contrast. Coarse focus is rack and pinion. Fine focus with micrometer knob. It moves up and down but gets a little hung up about half way. The original lacquered brass finish has tarnish and is in good overall vintage condition. The instrument is 12 ½” tall when fully closed and 15” when eyepiece is fully opened. It is signed on the stage. Bausch& Lomb Optical Co. This antique Bausch and Lomb microscope has a serial number that dates the instrument's manufacture to 1902. It features a single B&L signed Series 1 1/6 objective lens as well as its original signed eye piece. Interesting design does not feature turn knobs but rather a sliding tube for coarse adjustment. This antique Bausch and Lomb DDH 8 model microscope has a serial number that dates the instrument's manufacture to 1907. It features a triple nosepiece with three B&L signed objective lens as well as a revolving mechanical stage with degree measurement. Hello For Auction is a lovely Bausch and Lomb Microscope. It comes in the original box with additional eye pieces. It also includes a cloth cover and booklet. There is a small booklet of Lens wipes. Some of which have been used. The Microscope is stamped with" Bausch and Lomb Co Rochester New York 102526" The small translation stage under the Optics is fully operational. There are two screws on either side of the sample holder that can be used to fine adjust the position of the specimen. Missing are the two securing clips and knob. The Microscope can be positioned back by adjustment of the lever on the side. The motion is perfect. The light reflective mirror is in perfect condition with no cracks or scratching. There are three lenses with the Microscope 1.9mm. 4mm,16mm. They are all marked Bausch and Lomb Co Rochester New York. ... moreThe Lenses all look in good condition. They do need cleaning as does the complete Microscope. I will defer to the new owner on cleaning. The Eye Pieces are stamped 12.5. 10, 6.4 and 5. The Bausch and Lomb" Triangle" Mark is on each of the Eye Pieces. There is also a filter and two targets. There are two small bottles that accompany the set. I believe they are oils for the gearing. I don't see any major scratches but likely there are some there. Adjusting wheel won't turn, I don't want to force it. Measures 4 1/4" long and the wider end measures 2 1/4" in diameter. The beveled glass plate in pristine and has no chips or other marks. The mirror is two sided and both sides are fine. MECHANICS: Smooth and flawless. This auction is for a Antique Bausch& Lomb Binocular Research Microscope w/Wooden Case and Lenses. Scope is in decent condition with the sort of aging and wear one would expect from something like this. I have no idea how old it is although this model looks older than other similar microscopes I've seen on eBay and online. I don't think it's missing anything but I have no idea if it might be. It looks like there are 4 sets of lenses here at different magnifications and it looks like the mirror is intact. The box seems like it is in decent shape and it has a metal badge on top that has a lab stock number probably was used in a working research situation.
