After a certain Bible Study Class, the kids began calling him"The Golden Calf" and so he has remained. Would that he were! He is actually gilded hollow copper with a wonderful patina. As he stands now on his wooden base. He is 27 3/4 inches tall and 30 inches long. He has spent a good deal of time outside, both with us and with previous owners. On the whole. He is in pretty good shape; all of his seams are tight. He does have a few dings, the most noticeable one, on the crown of his head. But he still turns cheerfully on his supporting rod. WEATHER VANE: Antique Washburn Eagle. Gilded Copper, Late 1800's. 27.24" x 23.5" This is a terrific Weather Vane featuring a gilded Eagle perched on a globe with his wings outstretched and his arrow beneath which I acquired years ago at Medford Circle. West of Nashua New Hampshire. I am as sure as I can be that this Eagle was made by E.G. Washburn& Company of New York in the late 1800's. Below is an image of an almost identical Eagle auctioned in the last few years. And attributed as I have attributed the present one, by one of the large houses in New York City: The distinguishing characteristic of the lowered head is the same in both Eagles. The seams in our Eagle are all joined with a wide solder. In a more crude fashion, as can be expected in an earlier vane. Most of the gilding has been worn away. Especially on the ... moretop surfaces of the wings, tail and back, which were naturally more subject to weathering forces. A coat of verdigris had developed on most of the exposed surfaces, but the verdigris does not cover the solder joints, as the latter are not copper. This is a tell for authenticity. The post below the ball is worn and the bottom of the sleeve is split. Exhibiting wear according to its term of use from spinning round and round on the mount for many years. A few of the very ends of the fletchings of the arrow are bent as expected wear. T he small screw which holds the arrow in place is a later replacement But on the whole. This Eagle is in very good antique condition and he still turns proudly on his supporting rod. As our Eagle stands on his wooden support. He is 27 1/4 inches tall and 23 1/2 inches long. His wingspan is 20 inches. The end of the arrow rod is sealed. The photos give a very good idea of the beauty and power of this fine Antique Eagle Weather Vane. If you should have any questions. Vintage Antique COPPER HORSE & SULKY w/RIDER WEATHER VANE Weathervane
Antique or vintage weathervane that I believe is an earlier version of this type. The soldered seams are on the crude side with lots of tarnish and patina. I'll keep my age estimate pretty wide to be safe and say early 20th century to the depression. There is some oxidation also. The driver seams to have the most. From the front pipe to the back of the wheel is about 32" Several non distracting type dents that are normal for this age but the wheels are pretty bent. They do bend easy to fix. Off hand I see 4 spots where this piece needs to be spot soldered, it's only attached at the vertical bar. The bottom of one wheel to the pipe, the end of one spoke(I did that bending the wheels) and the 2 rear feet get soldered to the pipe. You can see where both feet where attached. Rare and interesting Armadillo and Arrow copper Weathervane top or could be added to a Lightning rod. The pieces are all non metallic and have a green patina at varying places. Both are old. But exact age is unknown. The arrow has a real folk art look to it. I have never seen an Armadillo weathervane. Even in Texas the metal one's are rare. The diller is nose to tail 29 1/2" long, the mounting bar he is on is 30 3/4" long. He is 11 inch wide at the widest area and add 1/2" where the down bracket is. Pair Green Copper Lightening Rod Weather Vane Glass Balls
Two Green Lightening Rod or Weathervane Glass Balls. Both have copper caps. I purchased these many years ago to update a lightening rod that I kept in the house, it is long gone and I ran across these, dusted them off and decided to rehome them. larger Ball stands just over 4 inches high, is 4 inches diameter and has two copper ends that are starting to tarnish. Smaller ball is 2 1/2 inches diameter stands at just over 2 inches high and also has two copper tarnishing ends. both are in like new. no chips or cracks.

WEATHER VANE: Antique Banneret. Gilded Iron. Copper& Brass, 22.5" x 23" This is a wonderful old Banneret Weather Vane which I found years ago west of Nashua. New Hampshire, near Millford Circle. I don't know the maker or its age for sure. I might guess it dates to the early 1900's or late 1800's It is made almost entirely of Iron. The four flowers are copper and I believe the ball at the top is brass. There is a coat of dark or black paint under the gilding on the iron parts. And there is some verdigris which has developed on the flowers and ball a the top As it stands now on its wooden base. This Vane is 22 1/2 inches stall and 23 inches long. The wooden base adds another inch and a half. There is a newer steel support rod which runs up through the whole and keeps it together. On the whole this Banneret is in pretty ... moregood condition and displays beautifully The photos give a very good idea of the form and condition of this great old Weather Vane. WEATHER VANE: Antique Whale. Gilded Copper, 19" x 30" Beautiful Form& Patina This is a very handsome Weather Vane featuring a serious Sperm whale. The kind of Whale which was the monomaniacal obsession of Captain Ahab in Moby Dick. I acquired him about 20 years ago from a gentleman in New Hampshire who had a large collection of gilded weather vanes. He was over 90 years old and well past the time when he could answer any questions about his collection. The sale was actually run by his daughter. Who told me that she herself was over 70, and all she knew was that he had been collecting the weather vanes his whole life. So I don't have an exact idea about the date of this weather vane. However. The seams are all tight and finished completely flat, unlike later Vanes which have small standing seams. The Whale is beautifully ... moreformed with special attention to the distinguishing characteristics of a Sperm whale: the square head. The knuckling from the hump to the fluke, or tail and the beautifully bifurcated tail itself. These observations make me think that the Whale most likely dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's. The Whale is full bodied gilded copper. The supporting rod is also copper. Much of the gilding has worn away and a good deal of verdigris has developed over the surface. Creating a complex and beautiful patina. This Whale stands 19 inches tall and 30 inches long on the wooden base. There is no damage whatsoever. This Whale is so beautifully made that. In addition to being fine piece of Americana, it is, in itself, a wonderful piece of sculpture. The photos give an excellent idea of the great form and patina of this fine old Whale. Actually when I got him. There were also directionals and another larger ball with him. But the letters on the directionals were broken, so I just mounted him with a simple rod. The ancient Sacred Cod is a wood carving which hangs in the House of Representatives chamber of the Massachusetts State House in Boston. This image is a favorite one in Massachusetts as it recalls the importance of the Cod in the economy and prosperity of the Massachusetts Bay Colony from the earliest times. Fish were also often used as Weather Vanes on Churches as a fish was one of the most ancient Christian symbols because its spelling ... morein Greek: ΙΧΘΥΣ( Ichthus) is an acrostic for Ί ησοῦς Χ ριστός. Vintage copper with patina & brass Whale Weather vane
This is a great piece I purchased at an estate auction that was from a 90 yr old doctor. It is like the whale in" Moby Dick" This is considered a"small" weather vane. Which is 12" long. The whale is hammered copper and has just enough patina. This can best be used on a deck or patio or even on top of a small potting. Mowing shed. Or even inside on a desk or coffee table. You can appreciate it more than the larger ones that are placed quite high on top of a barn or a steep house. It does have a fancy style bass which can be taken off. It is a lot prettier than a block of wood. The base is 5" in diameter. The directional. NSEW sets 9" apart. It has the brass ring and set screw which are all brass. The whale has a small swollen body style. The globe or pivot balls are sized 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" diameter ... morethose are all copper with a nice look of patina. WEATHER VANE: Antique Washburne Eagle. Gilded Copper, Late 1800's, 20 inches Tall This is a terrific Weather Vane featuring a gilded Eagle perched on a globe with his wings outstretched and his arrow which I acquired years ago at Medford Circle. West of Nashua New Hampshire. I am as sure as I can be that this Eagle was made by E.G. Washburn& Company of New York in the late 1800's. Below is an image of an almost identical Eagle auctioned in the last few years. And attributed as I have attributed the present one, by one of the large houses in New York City: The distinguishing characteristic of the lowered head is the same in both Eagles. The seams in our Eagle are all joined with a wide solder. In a more crude fashion, as can be expected in an earlier vane. Much of the gilding has been worn away. Especially on the top surfaces of ... morethe wings, tail and back, which were naturally more subject to weathering forces. A coat of verdigris had developed on most of the exposed surfaces, but the verdigris does not cover the solder joints, as the latter are not copper. This is a tell for authenticity. A faked verdigris surface will almost always cover at least some of the seams. The very ends of the fletchings of the arrow are bent a little as expected wear. But on the whole. This Eagle is in very good antique condition and he still turns proudly on his supporting rod. As our Eagle stands on his support. He is 20 inches tall and 15 1/4 inches long. The wingspan is 11 1/2 inches. The end of the arrow rod is sealed. The photos give a very good idea of the beauty and power of this fine Antique Eagle Weather Vane. If you should have any questions. Copper eagle weather vane topper
Vintage copper eagle weather vane topper. Wonderful patina with much oxidation on the upper part of the eagle which would've been subjected to more weather. Eagle itself is in very good condition. But it has been separated from the directional part of the vane. It does come with the rod that slides up into the ball that the eagle is sitting on. This could be mounted onto a board or other type of support so that the eagle will stand upright. It also has two holes in the lower part of the tail where perhaps someone had it mounted on the wall. There is a dent in the ball which you can see in photo 3. Antique Full bodied Molded Copper Eagle Weathervane. Nice old patina but does have spots of old blue paint here and there. The post or rod to hold it all together is missing. The Eagle has a wing span of 24-1/4" wide. One foot is missing off ball other foot is a little loose. The directional arrow measures 21-1/2" long and is bent in a few spots and seam is separated near fletching. The hole below arrow is clogged with old wood from missing rod or post. Old thick soldered joints are all visible and aged in color differently from eagle itself. The arrow im pretty sure is all copper due to its discoloration. One side of the"feathers" on the arrow could use resoldered to the shaft. WEATHER VANE: Antique Dolphin. Gilded Copper, 18" x 31.5" Great Smile! This is a great old Weather Vane featuring a Dolphin which I picked up years ago in Newport. Rhode Island, a renowned sea-going town. As he is now on his wooden stand. This Dolphin 18 inches tall and 31 1/2 inches long. The Dolphin is full bodied, gilded copper with two side fins which stick out quite a bit. Much of the gilding is worn and a good deal of verdigris has developed on the exposed copper. He seems to have escaped the indignity of being the object of target practice. On the whole. This old Dolphin is in very good shape. All of his seams are tight and smooth. He still turns on his supporting rod and, in general, he has a very cheerful affect to him. This vintage weathervane is in great condition. But the whale needs to be reattached to the vane. The vane itself is 22 inches wide and about 22 inches tall. The whale adds another 12 inches in height to the tip of the tale. The width of the whale is 37 inches long.

WEATHER VANE: Antique Moose, Gilded Copper, Wonderful Patina,25" Tall x 24" Long
WEATHER VANE: Antique Moose. Gilded Copper, Wonderful Patina, 25" Tall x 24" Long This is a wonderful old Gilded Moose Weather Vane Topper which I acquired about 20 years ago from a gentleman in New Hampshire who had a large collection of gilded weather vanes. He was over 90 years old and well past the time when he could answer any questions about his collection. The sale was actually run by his daughter. Who told me that she herself was over 70, and all she knew was that he had been collecting the weather vanes his whole life. So I don't have an exact idea about the date of this weather vane, but, based on his condition and fine workmanship, I would guess he dates to the early years of the last century. He may be earlier. On his base. This Moose stands 25 inches tall. From the tip of his nose to the end of the horizontal support ... morebar, he is 24 inches long. The Moose is full bodied gilded copper. All of his seams are tight and folded over. So there is almost no solder visible. You don't see this on later Weather Vanes He seems to have escaped the indignity of being being used for target practice. There is no serious damage to this Moose. Of course. Much of the gilding has naturally worn away, revealing patches of grey/green verdigris and old copper. A beautiful patina. There is a small ding on one side of his tail and a couple of the tips of his impressive antlers are very slightly bent. The inside of his antlers were not gilded. I suppose it was thought that that part would not be visible from far below. On the whole. This Moose in pretty good condition, is certainly very handsome and still turns cheerfully on his supporting rod The photos tell the whole story. If you should have any questions. This is an older vane. Probably 1950's-60's. Hand soldered seams, just like an antique one. Height is 16 in. The Rooster turns in the wind and is directional and it's about 9" tall. Great vane, great detail. This isn't simulated patina, it's actually weather darkened above and underneath. The lady said they'd had it in the family a long time. Polishing it would destroy it's value. Has a sitting base and likely was a great piece of yard decor. Nothing like it on the internet with that base. So it's kind like a one of a kind. He has very relaxed expression on his porcine face. I think he is one of my favorites of all the Vanes I acquired from the elderly gentleman in New Hampshire who had a huge collection of gilded Weather Vanes. This fine Pig is hollow. Made entirely of Copper and gilded. The gilding is worn away revealing patches of verdigris and old copper. The balls are copper; the directionals, brass, I believe, and the supporting rod is iron. When I mounted him, I replaced the collar under the large ball. As he stands now on his wooden stand. He is 34 inches tall and 27 1/2 inches long. The Pig himself is 15 inches tall and 27 1/2 inches from his snout to his curly tail. The ... moredirectionals are 18 inches long and the balls are 2 1/2 inches and 4 inches in diameter, respectively. Antique copper lightning rod with green glass weather vane and rare amethyst glass 8-sided prism-ball with a bubbled band. Ball reads: Diddie Blitzen Rods. Some surface rust from the elements but in very good condition despite its age. Weather vane looks to be cast iron with green glass in the tail. The rod itself and pointed tip are copper. This was the only one to survive the years.there were two others and neither had glass ball intact.

West of Nashua, New Hampshire. This Fine Brave is hollow. Made entirely of Copper and gilded. The supporting rods may be brass. The gilding is worn away revealing patches of verdigris and old copper. The ends of the horizontal support rod are capped as are the ends of the bow, which makes me think he may be quite old. There have also been a couple of small repairs on the bow string. As he stands now on his wooden stand. He is 28 inches tall and 20 1/2 inches from the point of the arrow to the back of the horizontal support rod. Copper Lightning Rods X2- Amythest Globe, and Rare Trotting Horse Weather Vane
Antique copper lightning rod with Rare 3-D trotting horse weather vane and amethyst glass globe with copper collar. Looks like there was a wood"tail" to the weather-vane that is no longer there. Some surface rust from the elements but in very good condition despite its age. Weather vane looks to be cast iron with horse possibly hammered&soldered tin/iron. The rod itself(for sure) and pointed tip(I assume) are copper. Amythest-colored globe is solid w/ no cracks; there is some chipping where rod runs through the globe. Copper grounding clamp at the base of each rod. I made one full lightning rod/weathervane out of the two and am including both. Overall dimensions: 5'7"tall. Vane 29.5" long, globe 4.5" diameter, base approx. 2' Other rod stands 42" Fast ship in 5 state area.

Antique Molded Copper Eagle Weathervane. Nice. Old, original patina. The rest of the weathervane is missing. You are buying exactly what is pictured. The Eagle has a wing span of 18-1/2 inches wide. Measures roughly 19 inches tall from bottom of ball to top of wings. Inside of right talon is not soldered onto ball, but outside of right talon has a nice sturdy solder. I believe this is all original. Old thick soldered joints are all visible and aged in color differently from eagle itself. The eagle's beak is a little distorted/bent. The direction pointers are made of copper and the west pointer is missing. There are two copper balls with this item The mounting rod is made of steel with a copper top section. circa 1910 cow weathervane and lightning rod removed from Pembroke Massachusetts dairy barn in 1980 restoration. all materials are original and in the oriinal position. Except for new small 1/2" dia copper coupling seen in photos. Bottom glass ball#1 has 3-1" hairline cracks restored. no broken holes in glass balls. Weathervane has stood in our garden for the last 34 years.

Antique Vintage Figural Copper STATUE OF LIBERTY Weather Vane Weathervane
For auction is a hollow. Copper figural weather vane of the Statue Of Liberty, with a directional. Age estimate is early to mid 20th century. Experts please chime in. As stated in the Description(above) I don't know much about weather vanes, so I'm just trying to represent it as honestly as possible and let you bidders out there make your best judgement. Miss Liberty is shown in profile: she holds the torch with one arm, and her tablet with the other. The figure appears to be made of solid copper sheets, molded into a hollow figure, about 22.5" tall from the top of the torch to the bottom of the robe. It is about 7" wide at the base of the figure. The figure is mounted to a pole atop an arrow, which also appears to be hollow and made of copper(the feather is a single sheet of metal) The vertical pole of the directional goes ... morethrough two hollow copper balls(about 5.5" tall combined, the large ball is about 4" diameter) The N/S/E/W directional appears to be solid brass. SOLID COPPER LIGHTHOUSE WEATHER VANE
A beautiful weathered copper lighthouse weathervane. Weathervane is in excellent condition and measures approx. 41" total height. The widest part is about 27" and from the direction letters to top of lighthouse is approx. 25" It is straight and heavy weighing in at about 10lbs. Wouldn't this look great at your beach house?

Antique Sulky Weather Vane Copper and Brass Horse and Rider nice Patina
This is a vintage Horse and Sulky with Rider Copper Weathervane. The rear leg of the horse has come loose from the bottom cross post but is very repairable. The driver left reign needs to resoldered and one spoke on the left wheel has been cracked. all repairable. The driver sit slightly to the left of center when viewed from the front. it is in good condition with no major issues. All can be seen in the pictures provided It measures 33" x 15" I purchased this at an estate sale where the owner past away after living in her house nearly 30 years. This is a wonderful vintage weathervane of a sulky with harness rider and trotting horse. It is copper metals with rider's head made of bronze and/or brass. It has a great original patina. This folk art weathervane dates to the 1880s. No makers marks. Made from copper forms and soldered ... moretogether the figures are hollow. This is one piece and has no directionals.
