Great antique 19th century carved wood cod fish weathervane. This primitively carved piece has remnants of paint on the underside. There are carved lines to highlight the eyes. Fins and some scales. It probably came apart and it looks like round headed nails were used to put it back together, however, the age of the weathervane is greater than that. It was bought from a man in Fairhaven, MA. He told us that it came from a small church on Nantucket Island. This is all he knew about it. It measures 27 1/2" long, 5 1/2" tall, and 3 1/2" wide. AAFA 19th Century Full Bodied Copper and Iron "Ethan Allen" Horse Weathervane
Full Bodied Running Horse Weathervane This is a copper molded full bodied"Ethan Allen" weathervane with a cast iron head. The surface is wonderful- a vibrant chrome yellow paint which was the sizing. Or undercoat, for what once would have been a gilded surface- worn off by weather and exposure. Areas of verdigris show through, making the overall effect interesting and beautiful. Ethan Allen was a champion Morgan horse trotter. Renowned in the Racing Hall of Fame, and a horse that you see in many Currier and Ives prints. This and many other vanes of the late 1800's were derived from the Currier and Ives images. The relatively small size of this one makes it special- 30" from the tip of the tail to the foremost leg. 17 1/2" from the ear to the cross piece, a perfect size for display. It appears that this vane. Like many ... moreof its era, was shot at. Pictures 8,9,11 show what look to be filled bullet holes- I believe these repairs were done a long time ago, judging from the verdigris on and around them. There are some intermmitant seam separations on the back(picture 3) belly(picture 6) and chest(picture 5) and minor denting. The iron head appears to have been smoothed due to inevitable rust with some kind of filler- hard to tell- with some in-painting. Most of the vibrant chrome yellow paint appears to be original- the bits of brighter yellow here and there are not as stable as the rest and may have been added later. That said, the surface is striking, with the wonderful color interspersed with the verdigris of the copper showing through. There is no stand. Great sculptural shape. Exceptional detail to the mane(picture 10) and tail(picture 12) No breaks(except for the seam separations as noted above) or missing parts. Found in New Hampshire, it dates from the late 1800's. This comes with a full money back guarantee. You will pay only the exact cost of shipping and insurance. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false AAFA AAFA means Antique Americana a

A similar vane is currently listed for $4999.99 on ebay, and another comparable sold at auction for $4250 + 15% buyers premium this past July(same size, same design, worse patina than mine. Antique full-bodied horse weathervane - late 19th century
Beautiful and rare late 19th century weathervane. More often. You will find this form with a jockey which makes this a rarer find. Probably a W. Fiske but no maker marks. Comes with original full directional with untouched surface. The horse is 31" in length and approximately 4" at the widest point. I found this gem in Vermont back in the 90's. My starting price is what I paid. Please excuse the poor photography as it does not capture the true color and verdigris. If you are in the area, you are welcome to stop by and inspect. Currently, the vane is mounted on a half-log and is not included in the sale as it would be too difficult to ship. I will be listing a large collection of folk art, early lighting an Americana over the next several weeks. Feel free to ask questions. I guarantee this item is authentic and as described or ... moreyour purchase will be gladly refunded. Bid with confidence.

Antique VTG Copper Running Horse Weathervane 19th Century
Antique VTG Copper Running Horse Weathervane 19th Century For sale is an antique copper horse weathervane. I have been told that it is an Ethan Allen running horse made by either L.W. Cushing or J.W. Fiske. But I did not see any marks so I cannot confirm this. The horse has a hollow body(two copper sides) with a solid cast iron head. The weathervane measurements are as follows: Horse Width(from bar to bar) 33” Horse Height(Ear to front leg) 16” Top of horse to the base- 4ft/ 48” The weathervane is all original. I dont see any replaced parts. Besides for the bracket on the bottom. The vane had been maintained(greased) so the horse will spin in the wind. The pole(stand) is pretty rusty. But the overall petina is great! I felt one very small dent. But with it is pretty much un-noticeable, and hard to picture. Feel free to message me with any ... morequestions. Thanks for looking! 19th Century Cast Zinc & Iron Figural Rooster Weathervane in Fine Condition
For auction here is an original late 19th or early 20th century cast zinc. Figural rooster weathervane in remarkably nice condition. This vane came from an auction of the estate of a primitives collector here in NYC. The rooster measures 19" tall and is hollow-cast in two halves, which are leaded together. I am not sure if the black paint is original or not. There is no paint visible under the black paint, but there are traces of darkened gold paint on top of the black finish. The bare zinc shows where the black paint has chipped off. There is a hollow iron rod which goes up through the center of the figure. The iron rod, where exposed, shows pitting from many years of exposure. The rooster came mounted on a set of directionals which were also early, but not original to this figure. I still have the directionals which I will offer to ... morethe buyer of this vane, if desired. This auction is for only the figural rooster shown in the photos. A very attractive, early figural vane! Offered with a reasonable buy-it-now. Buyer to pay Fedex ground post and ins. 15.00) Three-day inspection/ return on all items I offer, if not as described. Thanks

19th Century Cushing Grasshopper Weathervane Folk Art
19th Century Cushing Grasshopper Weathervane. Very rare. This grasshopper weathervane has the best copper verdigris surface that you will EVER find. I guarantee there isn't another 100 year old plus grasshopper weathervane with a surface better than this in existence! Untouched, no repairs, no bullet holes. What is more remarkable is this grasshopper has been indoors for over 30 or more years! This is a surface that is a collectors dream! measures right at 42 inches. This piece will have no apologies. Supposedly this came off an old bank that used to be right off the Cape outside of Boston. I have no proof or verification of this. However, who needs a story with a surface like this. This grasshopper has been offered for sale in couple other areas today so I reserve the right to end the auction. pick up is recommended. If you can come ... morelook please do.

Antique 19th Century Iron Sulky Weathervane or ornamental display piece
Mid to late 19th century Cast Iron weather vane counter weight or ornamental display. Gray Foundry Poultney. VT This piece measures 17" long with a height of 9" At its maximum it is 3/4 of an inch thick. Piece weighs 5 LB 4 OZ. Inscribed stamp on the back reads Gray Foundry Poultney. VT. There is no major structural damage but rusty. Still painted in places with an aqua or teal color. Inspecting the item there are no indications of mounting hardware or weld marks where the unit may have attached to something else. I am therefore not sure of it's true purpose. It may have been part of a weather vane. Gate, or other structure. Please inspect photos for determining condition. Historical Reference The manufacturer is from the Gray Foundry in Poultney. Vermont. A.W. Gray started his business in the 1840's producing farm machinery ... moreand implements with his sons joining the business by the late 1850's. It was around this time the name was changed to A.W. Gray and Sons. By around 1860 the Ruggles Foundry in Poultney was being supervised by the Grays. A new"Gray Line" was added expanding the types of items produced. The Ruggles foundry was purchased by the Grays around 1870. The actual original shop of A.W. Gray was actually in Middletown Springs. Vermont not Poultney. So it reasonable to assume it was produced at the renamed Ruggles foundry which suggests it was part of the new"gray line" This would date the piece to between 1860-1890. However. It is possible it could be an earlier work since larger machinery equipment always included and"Sons" on the stamp. Regardless it is a true antique and rare. I have seen many examples of similar work and cannot find another one like it. Harness racing or"Sulky" was a popular sport which included numerous events around the country and for local sport. It's construction is typical of the riders photographed in the middle to late 19th century. I will gladly try and answer any questions you may have but note I am not an e
