Antique Copper/ Iron Trotting HORSE Weather Vane This weather vane is old. I just can't say for sure how old. It stands 20" tall and the base measures about 9" wide. The arrow measures 10" long. This weather vane seems to me to be copper and/or copper plate over iron. It is fairly heavy and as you can see in the photos, there is a distinct copper tarnish all over the piece which gives it a beautiful patina. There is also some surface rust present which might mean it has iron in the metal also. This item is in good condition, please see photos for more detail. The ball is split in the middle so it is in two pieces- but it may be made that way. I will take this item apart when I ship. US buyers to pay $16.00 for USPS shipping from 65559. This copper weathervane form was made by soldering two pressed halves together on top of brass tubing. His ears were separately soldered onto his head. Circa 1910 Cut Metal American Trotting Horse Weathervane In Oxidized Red Paint
For sale is a wonderful circa 1910 cut metal trotting horse weathervane. This American made a weathervane comes to us from an estate in New Hampshire. It was on a barn and it was taken down many years ago and stored away. It was acquired at sale of items from the home and purchased at the sale in upstate New York in the Hudson Valley. This is a real and used weathervane. Not some of the cut metal weathervanes you often see sold which were never actually used as a weathervane. This is not a decorative piece but was an actual functioning weathervane with lots of history. Of course now it's collectible quality has given it a great decorative antique appeal. For collectors of antique American cut and sheet-metal weathervanes this is a great find. This weathervane features a heavier gauge steel than normal sheet-metal and is banded together ... morewith bolt/rivet construction and metal reinforcement construction. It has what appears to be the original red paint which has taken on a faded oxidized look giving this a weathervane a lovely beautiful character. There are three bullet holes in this weathervane which also adds character and history to the piece. These bullet holes are very old. We have taken pictures of this piece in the sun as well as in the evening light. In the sun the piece appears brighter and in the evening of the piece takes on a darker red hue. The up close pictures that we have included in our listing are a very good indication of what this piece looks like It stands on a solid steel pole which was once threaded on the bottom. Where it attached to the copula base)There are two areas with nuts which are threaded to the bar. We will try to remove these hexagonal and square nuts prior to shipping but if not we will ship this piece with the steel rod attached. Copper Lightning Rods X2- Amythest Globe, and Rare Trotting Horse Weather Vane
Antique copper lightning rod with Rare 3-D trotting horse weather vane and amethyst glass globe with copper collar. Looks like there was a wood"tail" to the weather-vane that is no longer there. Some surface rust from the elements but in very good condition despite its age. Weather vane looks to be cast iron with horse possibly hammered&soldered tin/iron. The rod itself(for sure) and pointed tip(I assume) are copper. Amythest-colored globe is solid w/ no cracks; there is some chipping where rod runs through the globe. Copper grounding clamp at the base of each rod. I made one full lightning rod/weathervane out of the two and am including both. Overall dimensions: 5'7"tall. Vane 29.5" long, globe 4.5" diameter, base approx. 2' Other rod stands 42" Fast ship in 5 state area.

The weathervane measures 17.5" at its widest point which is the length of the arrow and 21.5" from top to bottom. The HORSE is 9.5" long and 7" tall. The weathervane has a little paint missing and general wear commensurate with age and usage. A great piece of Americana Folk Art. Please see the pictures as they are part of the description.
