Early vintage Kretzer Lightning Rod Weathervane. Rare piece with glass panel intact. See pics for better idea of condition, but I would say this is very good. The paint looks original as it has a nice patina going, but it is possible that it is a very old re-paint. Looks great nevertheless! I left the patina on the metal and glass undisturbed. Very nice, rare piece. I haven't seen one like it on eBay and I may be underpricing the starting bid, but we'll see where the auction ends up! This came out of my Grandparents estate and had been stored in the barn for years so I'm pretty confident of its vintage. If you have additional questions, I will answer them quickly. These two lightning rod ball end caps are metal and both are about 1 1/2" in diameter on the outside. And the holes are about 1" in diameter. One marked Miller Lightning Rod Co St. Louis is in good condition, still has some tiny dings, and missing metal on the short inside rim. One marked Kretzer Brand Trade Mark is in fragile condition with some missing metal and cracks on the inside and outside rim. Great old hard to find parts! You are bidding on a Rare Antique Vintage Kretzer Brand 5" Tall Amethyst Clear Glass Lightning Rod Ball Globe. The Glass Ball itself is in Excellent Condition with no cracks or chips but like most of these balls. It has chipping around the outer rims, see pic's) The Rims do come with the Original Kretzer Brand Aluminum Caps. The Caps are very thin and bendable so there are some bends and little cuts but intact. I do not clean such items, I leave it up to the buyer to do what they prefer. It measure 5" tall, 1.5" in diameter on the outer rims. This is a vintage lightning rod weathervane. It is in great used condition. It is missing the arrow tab which would be used to hold the original stain glass. There are no other breaks or cracks. For your Consideration. I have here a Very Old Antique Vintage Kretzer Twisted Lightning Rod 69 1/2" W/ Spear Tip. These came out before the all copper rods I am not sure if there was others before this style or not I do know its a Older one. Twisted Wrought Iron With Copper Spear on top Spear is 10" Long. There is rust on the rod as can be expected of this early Primitive. The rod has a 3/4" Diameter So most of the lightning balls that are around now won't fit it this requires the older lightning balls maybe even metal ones not sure. Thank you very much for looking. ANTIQUE "K" KRETZER SUN COLORED AMETHYST LIGHTNING ROD BALL PURPLE Vintage
Here is an antique clear glass lightning rod ball that is embossed with a"K" I believe the K stands for Kretzer. You can decide for yourself. It has been sun colored to a purple/amethyst cast. The chemicals they used in glass back then would add a purple cast from being in the sun for so many years. This measures 5"T x 5"W. This is molded glass so there are thin seams along the sides. It does have some age/weather discoloration even though I did clean it. Staining is mainly on the one collar with light discoloration on the ball itself. One collar has very tiny chipping. The other collar has just a little bit more. It also has a little scratching on glass from storage. I'm back to selling the remainder of the collection of lightning rod balls that I purchased several years ago. These were removed off an old barn/house ... moremany years ago. Buyer pays shipping.
