Up for auction is a 5 ft lightning rod with a very decorative stand. It also haa a whie milk glass ball with"ELECTRA" embossed on it. These stands and electra balls are very desirable to collectors. Very Rare, Early Vintage 3.5" Ruby Glass Lightning Rod Ball, Embossed On Rim
This is a very rare 3.5" Ruby Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim; it is faint. But you can make out"PAT JULY.77" This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items. Also, I sold the another of this type ball awhile back to a collector and he confirmed it authenticity. So, with all that, I'm confident that this is an original and not a reproduction. It is a beautiful piece: ruby glass, fluted ribs, no chips or cracks, and it has its metal caps. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks for your interest! An area can be seen where there was another embossing that appears to have ended in a T or I(Shown in third and fourth photos) This embossing was clearly removed. Likely at time of manufacture as it is not noticeable except upon close inspection. The chip on the bottom collar is located below the removed embossing. This is a very rare 3.5" Wine Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It is NOS. No weathering. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim. You can clearly make out"PAT JULY 3rd 77" Collectors have told me this is a rare Canadian model. This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items in his collection. I've sold many balls from this collection to happy collectors! So, with all that, this is an original and not a reproduction. It is a beautiful piece: wine-colored glass, fluted ribs, no chips or cracks, and it has its metal caps. Probably milk glass, this ball does not have a pattern but is embossed with the word"NATIONAL" across the front, there are no metal caps on the upper or lower edges, both edges are well chipped and are blackened possibly from a previous lightning strike, I'm sure caps would still secure to the ball with some proper adhesive, measures approximately 5" from top to bottom edges and has about a 4 1/2" diameter. Antique, RARE set up! Twisted lightning rod and SCA ball, embossed caps and rod!
This lightning rod set up is really special. It is A scroll stand with a twisted Star Rod. it has a bayonet tip that is engraved with the letters CBFR. Call brothers Franklin rod. the rod itself stands 70 inches tall. the ball is Sun colored amethyst very beautiful and comes with two caps that are correct Kretzer brand trademark. One cap is in much better condition than the other but both still clearly show the embossing.
