The point has weathered nicely over the years and what is left is a great verdigris green patina that will display well. There was some hunks of tar on the base of the point. The nickel was intact under it when I soaked it with acetone. This point was made from solid brass. Or bronze. The copper has weathered nicely over the years and has achieved a neat bronze color patina. This point was made from solid copper. There is a slight dent in the one side which slightly distorts the point. It fits on 1/2" i.d. or 5/8" o.d. copper pipe to put on a lightning rod stand. These old insulators are 1 7/8 inches high and have a 1 inch hole inside and a 1 1/2 inch outside diameter. They look to be clear or kind of a light yellowish in color. 2 of them have the knob to hold them in the stand and one of them has it broken off. All 3 have some chipping but they will still work fine to hold the rod. You are buying all 3 for one money and there is no reserve.

Very Rare, Early Vintage 3.5" Ruby Glass Lightning Rod Ball, Embossed On Rim
This is a very rare 3.5" Ruby Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim; it is faint. But you can make out"PAT JULY.77" This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items. Also, I sold the another of this type ball awhile back to a collector and he confirmed it authenticity. So, with all that, I'm confident that this is an original and not a reproduction. Here we have for sale 3 vintage original lightning rods. 2 are tall 5ft. and one is a shorty 2ft'er. Rods are 5/8" dia. copper tubes with great patina! One has a slip on shell tip and the other 2 have the tips formed on the tube. One stand is a twisted wire and the other 2 are washer style. All feet are intact. You're buying the group of 3. found this at an old farm auction. very nice piece. milk ball is about 5" cow is about 9" long and about 6" tall over all 16" from bottom to tip and almost 20" wide. found one like it on ebay and it said it was a New Jersey. Farm fresh, antique 1890's weathervane but I am not an expert so please see pics and judge for yourself. REVISED Set of 3 Fancy Scroll Lightning Rod Weathervane Farm Barn REVISED
Here we have for sale a very nice set of 3 fancy scroll style lightning rods. Here's what you get 3-18" all aluminum noninsulated scroll stands. 3- all aluminum 32" twisted star rods. There's a 4th. rod with a split two piece ferrule but no stand. Note added 2-3-2014. This 4th rod is no longer included. Look at the way the rods spiral with a taper. Forming their tips. Quite unusual indeed. Each rod has it's twp piece cast aluminum T- clamp for connecting to the ground cable. You also get 3- 4-1/2" plain round glass balls. These each have a pink cast to them. Collars are good and there's no cracks or bb damage. No caps, I kept em. You get everything pictured, except the single rod with ferrule. These would be excellent to put back on a roof or put them in your collection. If you want. I have 9 or 10 sections ... moreof the grounding cable, with hold fasts for nailing to roof and one bi metallic ground clamp to hook to a 1/2 ground rod. I might have another ground clamp, I'll have to look. If you want this cable and are willing to come pick it up or meet me, I'll let it go for an additional $150.00. This is a very rare 3.5" Wine Glass Ball with fluted ribs. It is NOS. No weathering. It looks to have the correct embossing on rim. You can clearly make out"PAT JULY 3rd 77" Collectors have told me this is a rare Canadian model. This came out of my Grandparents Estate. He was an electrician and rod installer from roughly 1940-1980. This was packed up in his barn with other items in his collection. I've sold many balls from this collection to happy collectors! So, with all that, this is an original and not a reproduction. It is a beautiful piece: wine-colored glass, fluted ribs, no chips or cracks, and it has its metal caps. Here we have a set of 3 lightning rods. These were recently salvaged from a barn that had collasped. Here's what you get 3- steel washer stands. These are 16" tall and have a odd size 3/4" rod openings. 3- 31" Aluminum twisted star rods. 2- have the bottom connectors. The other connector I couldn't find. The tip of the middle rod looks like it's been resharped some years ago? This is a guess tho, it may be made that way, can't really tell. You get all 3 for the money.

3 Copper Twist Lightning Rod Weathervane Pennsylvania Barn Acorn 5 Spike Topper
Fresh from the roof of an early Pennsylvania barn. That has collapsed under the weight of this winter's snow, are the three lightning rods with weathervane. They are made of copper, brass, and iron, with porcelain insulators(one insulator is missing, one is broken) The lightning rods stand approx. 6' tall, and the weathervane arrow is 32" long(animal piece is missing) The twisted center pieces look to be copper-covered iron(some copper is peeling/damaged, see photos) topped with what I believe are solid brass acorn pieces, and the five spikes look to be copper(one has a few bent spikes from the collapse) The glass/ceramic balls are missing, but the ring-caps are still present(lots of balls available here on eBay) The three-legged iron mounting brackets are fair for their age; rusty and pitted, all mounting feet and insulator ... morebrackets are present. One clip/clamp at the base of center rod, where cable would connect, is broken(middle of last photo) These three rods have gone through many rough years atop that barn.fortunately they still exist and can be restored or displayed as is. One of the sun colored amethyst(SCA) balls has a V shaped chip that does not reach the body of the ball. But a metal cap covers this chip fully. One of the blue milk glass balls has a bubble pop hole in it. This hole is from the manufacturing process, an air pocket was in the mold when the ball was made. This is not a hole caused by a BB gun. This ball is considered usable, as it was on a rooftop lightning rod for years and did not break during its lifetime. All of these balls have another 100 years of use left in them! You are bidding on one Antique Copper Lightning Rod Tip Topper and Copper Roof Mount Bracket in Good condition. The lightning rod tip is attached to a roof mount bracket which was used to attache the lightning rod to the roof of a barn or house.and then attache cable to the bracket to ground lightning strikes. The lightning rod tip measures 19 inches tall with the bracket. The bracket is marked on the foot.West Dodd Corp.Goshen. Ind. The lightning rod tip/ top has an aged copper patina.I have lightly cleaned the top.further cleaning and polishing will be left for the new owner. Please see the photos.
