I purchased ... moreit at an old suburban farm yard sale many years back. The steel cross arrow and James logo are flanked buy a full bodied zinc cow at the other end. The is 32-1/4 inches. It has a 5-1/2 inch, zinc, cone base-cover and a hollow zinc finial. The dark amber glass ball is 4-1/2 inches in diameter. It stands 33-1/2 inches tall. The black and gold painted surface must be at least 50-60 plus years old. The condition is very good. There is only see a slight dent in one side of the cow. The glass ball is in great shape as are the cone and finial. It doesn't appear to have any old repairs. It's held together with cotter pins to keep it lined-up. Please look at all the pictures and if you have any questions please ask. All my items are guaranteed to be as described and pictured. If your ever unsatisfied returns are not a problem. As you can see it has had it's years of use, the arrow does not rotate freely and will need a little work if you are intending to use this item, if not its a great piece of American art form from the past. The items featured in this display all date to at leat the 1940's and likely are even older. The fancy cast iron arrow measures 18 inches long and has the original red tail glass and even though their is a crack in the one corner. It is firmly and solidly set into the iron frame. The old white milk glass ball is 4 inches in diameter and has a lovely lavender tint due to being exposed to the sun for many years. The entire piece stands 17 inches tall, is 18 inches wide and is set into a walnut base for display. Great antique lightning rod weathervane with a silver mercury ball. This piece is in overall good antique condition. With a nice patina to it. Some signs of wear from usage and age, so please look closely at the pictures. The total height of the whole piece is 59" The finial measures 9 5/8" in total length, the exposed portion is 8 1/4" With the finial off, the rod itself is about 51" The twisted steel stand measures 39 3/4" high. The silver mercury ball measures 5 1/4" through the center hole, the inside of the opening is 1" and the outside of the brass cap is 1 3/8" The ball is approximately 5" wide. The copper rod is 49" long. I will detach this from the base and the globe will be shipped separately to keep everything safe. So it will be disassembled when you receive it. This piece has been lovingly preserved and installed on a decorative wood base for display. The center is a copper lightning rod with removable pointed top. The cow is a 3-dimensional construction made of thin metal. The other metal feels like cast iron? There are TWO glass balls. A white milk glass ball with dimples and a blue ball with stars! The top of the white ball has a few chips that you can see in the photos. The bottom of the blue ball has a few chips that are covered up by the metal fitting. Beautiful iron lightning rod/weathervane with cobalt blue glass ball and hollow pig without bullet holes. I have never seen one of these rods with a pig in better condition. Rod stands 36" tall with a 22 1/2" arrow. Pig measures 8 1/2" long X 4 5/8" high. Has a small hole in the top which shows in the picture. Ball is 4 1/2" across with a crack on one side. I have tried to show this crack in the picture. Will not deter from displaying this beautiful piece as it's only on one side. This is truly a beautiful lightning rod/weathervane. Excellent vintage set of 4 amber glass weathervane pendant or Christmas tree solid glass balls. Each ball measures 1" in diameter and has a screw-on brass cap with great patina and a attachment loop. The brass fittings do have some stress cracks from use but they fit securely on the ball. There are also some minor chips on the glass from being outside. Item is described and shown as best I can. Antique Lightning Rods with Milk Glass Balls and Shinn Weathervane Lincoln NE
These are 4 Shinn Lightning Rods- Wrought iron stands with copper lightning rods. Ornate white milk glass balls that have W.C. Shinn, Lincoln, NE embossed on them. Also includes ornate cast wind vane with red glass"Shinn" insigna. Three of the glass balls are in very good shape with the normal chips on the edges. The fourth ball has a couple holes in it- probably from a shotgun shot- please note picture) Rods are 66" tall. The wrought iron base with legs is 38" base alone is 18" The glass milk balls are approximately 5" tall with a 1" diameter at ends. The weather vane is 17 3/4" inch in length and 3 1/2" at the tallest point On October 6. 1908, the City of Lincoln issued a building permit to W.C.
