Up for consideration is this stunning 23" Kretzer lightning rod arrow. Made of brass this arrow has a great patina. There is no damage or repairs. The glass is an NOS Kretzer glass that was very difficult to obtain. This is the only modification to this arrow. Also included is the original Kretzer brass ferrule the arrow was mounted on, this also is in great untouched condition, screws work as they should. On my other auctions this week I have listed the pendant hanger and ajax topper that were on the same rod. I personally removed them from a roof and they are new to the market. All I remember about this item is I purchased it off Ebay 10 years ago for 95.00. I remember it was pre 1900 and the person had photos of where it was from. It came off a victorian house in Pennsylvania. I dont have the photos anymore. I was going to use it for a mixed media art project but never got around to it. This is a 22 1/2 inch long lightning rod wind direction arrow marked Kretzer on one side and St Louis on the other. Manufactured around 1910. It is metal and meant to have a piece of colored glass in the tail. The glass needs replaced with the color of yor choice. The metal has a green color and may have been painted long ago. ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. Vintage Copper Lightning Rod Weather Vane with Glass Ball & Directional Arrow
For auction is a complete vintage copper lightning rod/weather vane similar to the one seen on a recent version of American Pickers. This one was one of two that graced an old barn in eastern Pennsylvania. It would make a great architectural display piece for your home. Right now. It is mounted on a board for display purposes but it will not be shipped with the board. You can supply your own and save shipping costs. The three legs and framework for the rod are iron and are rusted from years of being exposed to the elements. Just the rod is copper. The three legs were meant to be spread out and attached to the peak of the roof. The bottom of the rod has a copper loop through which ran copped cable to make any lightening strike go to ground. The glass ball was intended to explode if hit by lightening to indicate a strike. The pictures are representative ... moreof its brown light coffee color. There are no cracks in the glass but there are flakes on the upper and lower edges of the circular hole as can be seen in the 6th and 7th pictures. It appears that the more serious flakes resulted from the ball turning on the directional arrow. I suppuse there is some type of washer or gasket to prevent this type of damage. The arrow is 20 3/4" long. It is made from cas aluminum or white metal as it is not very heavy. The rod stands 65 3/4" tall and the entire peice shows good green copper patina.The ball will be shipped separate from the rod and arrow to prevent damage.

This is a vintage Robbins Weather Vane and Lightning Rod made by Robbins in Maryville. MO. It came off the house I spent my youth in. I'm not sure when it was placed on the house, but I have vague memories of childhood discussions about the lightning rods so it's possible it could date to the late 60's. The hole in the weather vane dates to 1978 when I took one of my first successful and mischievous shots with a new.22 rifle. The weather vane is in good shape otherwise, aside from being weathered. From a local estate. Here is a beautiful old cast iron weather vane arrow, would have fit on the old rooftop lightning rod on a house or barn. Overall length is 18.5" about 4" top to bottom. I'm guessing this was refinished at some point. The black paint looks too shiny and was probably applied over a rusty original, and the glass panel doesn't look right, probably a replacement. Rare antique Kretzer Lightning Rod Weather Vane This is a hard to find piece with the original green"Kretzer" glass in the tail. The glass is textured on one side and"Kretzer" is reversed applied- like a decal. Not painted, to the other, smooth side. It is a gold colored lettering with a black outline. There are a few small areas where the wording has come off. There are no chips in the glass at all. The arrow is most likely painted brass as it does not attract a magnet. Kretzer St. Louis" is cast into one side. It is in very good shape with no cracks or chips. Some patina on the rod and the glass has some film/dirt on the back side. I did not want to clean this. I really did find this in a barn at an estate sale. It appears to be in good original condition. I don't see any breaks or repairs in the ball. There is one small piece missing on the tail of the weather vane. I really didn't notice it until I took pics so it's not all that noticeable. It has copper. Steel, aluminum and milk glass in it. I'm pretty certain the tip is copper like most of them was. I will have to fold the legs in to ship it. They are simple to fold back out to wherever you want them to be. Lovely piece of folk art. This vintage weather vane is painted brown, with black mane and eye and harness with rose on one side. There is a jagged hole right on the center of the rose on the harness where this was probably hit with a shot of some kind. There are no other dents or cracks. 11 inches wide by 9-1/2 inches high. I am not sure what type of metal this is made of. But it is non-magnetic. Perhaps old zinc? There are a couple of very small scuffs on the paint where the metal underneath looks like a dull gray. The metal is hollow and not too heavy. The horse weighs 6.9 oz. Two of the hooves have holes in the back where this was attached to the rest of the weathervane. I believe one cap may be original, the other might be an older replacement? The holes in the ball are right at 1" The ball is right at 4 1/4" across. Nice original. WEATHER VANE: Antique "LG ARMADILLO" & ARROW, BOTH COPPER, LIGHTNING ROD
Rare and interesting Armadillo and Arrow copper Weathervane top or could be added to a Lightning rod. The pieces are all non metallic and have a green patina at varying places. Both are old. But exact age is unknown. The arrow has a real folk art look to it. I have never seen an Armadillo weathervane. Even in Texas the metal one's are rare. The diller is nose to tail 29 1/2" long, the mounting bar he is on is 30 3/4" long. He is 11 inch wide at the widest area and add 1/2" where the down bracket is.
