ANTIQUE ORNATE IRON ARROW Measures 22.75" long. There are no breaks. Cracks, or repairs to this fancy old arrow. An eBay search shows me it looks just like a Kretzer but I don't see the name where it usually is. See my last photo. Don't know if they were ever unmarked or if it could wear down that much? We are not weathervane people. There is no glass. See photo 8.Should there be something there to hold the glass? We suspect so.Probably an easy fix for those accustomed to working with weathervanes.

Antique Pig Weathervane Lightning Rod Arrow Primitive Folk Art W/ Bullet Holes
This auction is for a old Pig Weathervane/Lightning Rod Directional Arrow that came from a Missouri estate. It measures 21 5/8" x 5 3/8" The metal pig which I think is zinc measures 9" x 5" The arrow is cast iron and is straight. The back part of the arrow that the pig stands on is designed with twisted metal. It appears that a piece that originally went to one of the back legs is broken. I have a close up of it in the pictures. As you can see this little piggy was used for target practice and has several bullet holes in his body. The legs. Ears, nose, and tail are intact and the pig is secure on the arrow. It is weathered from lots of years on the barn and the cast iron arrow has some rust. I am guessing this one dates back to the 1920-30's. Up for consideration is this stunning 23" Kretzer lightning rod arrow. Made of brass this arrow has a great patina. There is no damage or repairs. The glass is an NOS Kretzer glass that was very difficult to obtain. This is the only modification to this arrow. Also included is the original Kretzer brass ferrule the arrow was mounted on, this also is in great untouched condition, screws work as they should. On my other auctions this week I have listed the pendant hanger and ajax topper that were on the same rod. I personally removed them from a roof and they are new to the market. This is a 22 1/2 inch long lightning rod wind direction arrow marked Kretzer on one side and St Louis on the other. Manufactured around 1910. It is metal and meant to have a piece of colored glass in the tail. The glass needs replaced with the color of yor choice. The metal has a green color and may have been painted long ago. I am also selling a Kretzer lightning rod finial in a separate auction. and I do combine shipping. Both items were on the same barn.

ANTIQUE c.1900 CAST IRON and COPPER WEATHER VANE ARROW 28 1/2" LENGTH Great old cast iron weather vane directional arrow. Figural arrow has a center double loop where it can be placed on a lightening rod or pole. The opposing end of the arrow is thick copper and was made so an animal or figure could be mounted to it. The cast iron arrow and copper rod are riveted together in the center. This appears to be all original and is all very old but solid and free of cracks or damage. Some typical pitting in the cast iron as shown. The overall length is 28 1/2" With the arrow portion measuring about 16 inches long and the copper rod portion measuring about 12 1/2 inches long. This arrow is from the same estate and building as our recently sold copper horse weathervane was. Please review photos to assess condition. Vintage Copper Lightning Rod Weather Vane with Glass Ball & Directional Arrow
For auction is a complete vintage copper lightning rod/weather vane similar to the one seen on a recent version of American Pickers. This one was one of two that graced an old barn in eastern Pennsylvania. It would make a great architectural display piece for your home. Right now. It is mounted on a board for display purposes but it will not be shipped with the board. You can supply your own and save shipping costs. The three legs and framework for the rod are iron and are rusted from years of being exposed to the elements. Just the rod is copper. The three legs were meant to be spread out and attached to the peak of the roof. The bottom of the rod has a copper loop through which ran copped cable to make any lightening strike go to ground. The glass ball was intended to explode if hit by lightening to indicate a strike. The pictures are representative ... moreof its brown light coffee color. There are no cracks in the glass but there are flakes on the upper and lower edges of the circular hole as can be seen in the 6th and 7th pictures. It appears that the more serious flakes resulted from the ball turning on the directional arrow. I suppuse there is some type of washer or gasket to prevent this type of damage. The arrow is 20 3/4" long. It is made from cas aluminum or white metal as it is not very heavy. The rod stands 65 3/4" tall and the entire peice shows good green copper patina.The ball will be shipped separate from the rod and arrow to prevent damage.

As is the rod is about 45" tall and can adjust up to approx. 68" It has an attached metal arrow with Blue slag glass in the arrow metal frame with some obvious damage to the glass. The lightning ball has some roughness on the bottom edge as seen in nearly all balls. But no cracks. Measures approx. 4 1/2" wide.

The best part is this piece is marked'Kretzer' What a fabulous thing it is to find a piece marked by the maker or company. A bit of research has informed me that Kretzer weathervanes are from the early 1900's. St. Louis seems to be the home of the manufacturer. A few years ago. My brothers and I had the ominous job of cleaning out the farm house and barns our family built in the 1890's. We were thrilled to send one of our much younger limber cousin's up on the roof of the very old house to bring down the lightning rods.
