Vintage Old and Original Horse Weathervane and Lightning Rod Ball, Neat and Nice
Neat Old and Original Circus Horse Weathervane and Blue Milk Glass Quilt Lightning Rod Ball. Weathervane is called a Circus Horse vane because it has a belly band around the horse's middle. Weathervane is hollow bodied and made in the 1915-20's. The horse is tim metal and the front arrow is old cast iron. Weathervane measures 33 inches long. Horse measures 14 inches long.10 inches tall and about 1 1/8 inches thick. This weathervane style was very popular way back then for the roofs of Barns and old Victorian Homes. Horse was large enough to be easily seen from some distance. This one fit over a 5/8 common lightning rod-the most common rod. The blue milk glass"quilt" ball measures 5 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches tall. It will fit over the common rod or the more fancy twisted star rod. Both items look great together. Please ... morelook at photos for better description. Buyer will just have to get a desired lightning rod and have a great old Circus Horse and Ball set up. Antique Cast Iron Ornate Weathervane Lightning Rod ARROW ~Looks to be Kretzer
ANTIQUE ORNATE IRON ARROW Measures 22.75" long. There are no breaks. Cracks, or repairs to this fancy old arrow. An eBay search shows me it looks just like a Kretzer but I don't see the name where it usually is. See my last photo. Don't know if they were ever unmarked or if it could wear down that much? We are not weathervane people. There is no glass. See photo 8.Should there be something there to hold the glass? We suspect so.Probably an easy fix for those accustomed to working with weathervanes.

As you can see it has had it's years of use, the arrow does not rotate freely and will need a little work if you are intending to use this item, if not its a great piece of American art form from the past. Great antique lightning rod weathervane with a silver mercury ball. This piece is in overall good antique condition. With a nice patina to it. Some signs of wear from usage and age, so please look closely at the pictures. The total height of the whole piece is 59" The finial measures 9 5/8" in total length, the exposed portion is 8 1/4" With the finial off, the rod itself is about 51" The twisted steel stand measures 39 3/4" high. The silver mercury ball measures 5 1/4" through the center hole, the inside of the opening is 1" and the outside of the brass cap is 1 3/8" The ball is approximately 5" wide. Antique Pig Weathervane Lightning Rod Arrow Primitive Folk Art W/ Bullet Holes
This auction is for a old Pig Weathervane/Lightning Rod Directional Arrow that came from a Missouri estate. It measures 21 5/8" x 5 3/8" The metal pig which I think is zinc measures 9" x 5" The arrow is cast iron and is straight. The back part of the arrow that the pig stands on is designed with twisted metal. It appears that a piece that originally went to one of the back legs is broken. I have a close up of it in the pictures. As you can see this little piggy was used for target practice and has several bullet holes in his body. The legs. Ears, nose, and tail are intact and the pig is secure on the arrow. It is weathered from lots of years on the barn and the cast iron arrow has some rust. I am guessing this one dates back to the 1920-30's. I found this weathervane here in Maine. So it has seen some harsh conditions, but still remains in a solid condition. The glass is an NOS Kretzer glass that was very difficult to obtain. This is the only modification to this arrow. This piece has been lovingly preserved and installed on a decorative wood base for display. The center is a copper lightning rod with removable pointed top. The cow is a 3-dimensional construction made of thin metal. The other metal feels like cast iron? There are TWO glass balls. A white milk glass ball with dimples and a blue ball with stars! The top of the white ball has a few chips that you can see in the photos. The bottom of the blue ball has a few chips that are covered up by the metal fitting. Beautiful iron lightning rod/weathervane with cobalt blue glass ball and hollow pig without bullet holes. I have never seen one of these rods with a pig in better condition. Rod stands 36" tall with a 22 1/2" arrow. Pig measures 8 1/2" long X 4 5/8" high. Has a small hole in the top which shows in the picture. Ball is 4 1/2" across with a crack on one side. I have tried to show this crack in the picture. Will not deter from displaying this beautiful piece as it's only on one side. This is truly a beautiful lightning rod/weathervane. It will need to be reattached to the pole. I do not know what the head is made from but it looks like brass(just not positive) and I do not know how old it is but it looks very old.
