You are bidding on a TOTALLY AUTHENTIC AMERICANA FOLK ART antique Horse Weather Vane. That is made out of some kind of metal alloy and mounted on an iron arrow and once used as a weather vane. IT LOOKS GREAT mounted on a wall. The piece has wonderful, artistic lines- it's 28" long from the tip of the arrow to the end; the height is 12" from the tip of the horse's ears to the bottom of the arrow; and the horse itself is 13" long, but would be 2" or so longer if his front leg were still attached to the metal mounting. The appears to be some of carousel or circus horse, as there is a sculpted band around its middle. THE ARROW HAS AMAZING PATINA, and both it and the horse are obviously very old and weathered. Antique Pig Weathervane Lightning Rod Arrow Primitive Folk Art W/ Bullet Holes
This auction is for a old Pig Weathervane/Lightning Rod Directional Arrow that came from a Missouri estate. It measures 21 5/8" x 5 3/8" The metal pig which I think is zinc measures 9" x 5" The arrow is cast iron and is straight. The back part of the arrow that the pig stands on is designed with twisted metal. It appears that a piece that originally went to one of the back legs is broken. I have a close up of it in the pictures. As you can see this little piggy was used for target practice and has several bullet holes in his body. The legs. Ears, nose, and tail are intact and the pig is secure on the arrow. It is weathered from lots of years on the barn and the cast iron arrow has some rust. Copper Whale Weathervane,old,seams checked for repair NO BULLET HOLES!Base.
From Monterey. California by the Pacific. Poor old whale had some open seams so I had him professionally re-soldered where needed( shiny spots) and of course outside in the weather the patina will return when it gets wet. Mist it with water a few times a day if you are in a hurry. Comes with a base but the base is not suitable for a rooftop but rather for a garden wall or shelf for display only. No telling how old this guy was when I bought it but do a good deed and give him a 2nd chance for another hundred years of use. 25" head to tail and 7" widest point at the body. Of course tail sticks up higher.Body does swivel on base(but not in the wind) and is removable from base. Base has screw holes.
