I found this Large Cast Aluminum Horse at an estate sale. They didn't know where it came from other than it was their Parents. It looks like it was attached to a weathervane and broke off. I tried to find one like it online but I could not. It is 19 1/2 inches long by 8 1/2 inches high and weighs 1 5/8 pounds. The number stamped in the back looks like 100023. They are in nice condition, no cracks, rods are straight and pointed and feel like they may be solid, but not sure, both have the plate to tighten the copper ground line to them, no cracks in mounting roof plates, may need to bend them to pitch of roof to be mounted on. For sale is a pair of vintage lightning rod balls. may be antique. These came from the farm country of Southeast Kansas from an Antique Dealers auction. In another auction I will list 2 metal vanes. The balls. One blue and one white appear to be like milk glass. The blue one has been used and has come chipping around both of its 1.25" lips. The white one has a pair of plastic fasteners attached and I notice some chipping on one end. This need cleaning. But otherwise I do not see any condition issues. About 5" long; softball size. These have not been used; some of the glass has not even been trimmed away on the inside of one end. The other end was sawn off the mold. These were found in a garage in a paper bag with old newspaper wrapped around them; the newspaper was dated 1973 from Wheeling. West Virginia. The age of these can obviously be before or after that date; you be the judge. Size is approximately: 3" tall overall x 2-7/8" diameter I have absolutely no idea what their purpose is or was; you buy them for whatever you like them to be. The clear globe has a small bubble near one of the openings. It shows two seams where the glass was molded. The"milky" globe shows no seams. This came straight off the farm in front of the barn. The owner put a piece of tubing on the bottom and stuck it in the ground for decoration. This lightning rod insulator came from a dairy farm North of Emporia. Kansas. It is owned by an old friend of mine who is a professor at the university. It measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter and has no chips, cracks, or scratches other than a few very slight ones around the stem. As you can see in the picture, they in no way detract from the overall beauty of the piece. It is really in exceptional shape for having survived a hundred years of hailstorms and Kansas wind. There are a very few small chips on each- But Only- on their top and bottom which would be covered by the metal end caps- Not Included. The one still mounted on its Original Copper Tube is about 4 inches in Diameter. The Center Hole in this one is 7/8 inches in Diameter. The Other Ball is about 4 and 1/2 inches in Diameter with a Center Hole that is about 1 and 1/8 inches in Diameter. The First picture shows the true White Color of both of These. He would add a new aluminum figural if the property owner agreed. He said that once the restored arrow vane went back up on the rooftop lightning rod, you couldn't tell that they were aluminum.
