Vintage Copper Whale Weathervane Available is a nice vintage copper whale weathervane. It was gifted to our family years ago by a friend who owned a home at the Jersey shore. We had every intention of using it. But never did as we own horses so, of course, our weathervane is of a horse. It has been stored in our garage since gifted and now needs to find a suitable home. I am not weathervane savvy. So I have taken plenty of pictures with the hope that any potential buyer will have a good idea of the condition and size. I have chosen not to clean it up and will leave that up to the buyer. Vintage Antique Copper Primitive Folk Art Sperm Whale Weathervane Moby Dick Up for auction is this antique nautical weather vane. The top features a sperm whale measuring 25" by 7" The N/S/E/W spokes measure 18" across. And the pole stands 18 1/2" high. Altogether, the whale measures approx. 26" tall. I have tested the weathervane with WD-40, but it does not turn. The copper has a light green patina and verdigris which adds to the antique character and overall appeal of this piece. The weathervane is in good condition for its age. But the tail section is a little rusty on top from being out in the elements. It has natural green patina on the copper. This is a very interesting item from an estate sale- a large WHALE weather vane. It is 39" long. Based upon the green weathering. I am fairly certain it is copper. It looks like it has been repaired a number of times in the past- the tail is crimped and a good portion of the bottom seam has been soldered- looks like it fell off a roof a few times in its history! It also includes a heavy set of directionals as well as a copper ball.The directionals are 22" across. This weathervane has a really great amount of character!

Vintage copper with patina & brass Whale Weather vane
This is a great piece I purchased at an estate auction that was from a 90 yr old doctor. It is like the whale in" Moby Dick" This is considered a"small" weather vane. Which is 12" long. The whale is hammered copper and has just enough patina. This can best be used on a deck or patio or even on top of a small potting. Mowing shed. Or even inside on a desk or coffee table. You can appreciate it more than the larger ones that are placed quite high on top of a barn or a steep house. It does have a fancy style bass which can be taken off. It is a lot prettier than a block of wood. The base is 5" in diameter. The directional. NSEW sets 9" apart. It has the brass ring and set screw which are all brass. The whale has a small swollen body style. The globe or pivot balls are sized 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" diameter ... morethose are all copper with a nice look of patina. The whale is in great shape but has had a slight vein crack that has been repaired with lead. Everything can be taken apart. Together it stands 13" tall. this will be in a large box because it is soldered together the whale has a dent in one side as u see in the pic the main tube is 3/4 copper and on the bottom it is 2 piece the way i got it so it doesn't go in a postal oversized box pushing the limits on that and u can add a longer tube 3/4 on the bottom and make it taller if u like.anyway the rest is soldered and strong it doesn't have the mounting plate very nice vane

From Monterey. California by the Pacific. Poor old whale had some open seams so I had him professionally re-soldered where needed( shiny spots) and of course outside in the weather the patina will return when it gets wet. Mist it with water a few times a day if you are in a hurry. Comes with a base but the base is not suitable for a rooftop but rather for a garden wall or shelf for display only. No telling how old this guy was when I bought it but do a good deed and give him a 2nd chance for another hundred years of use. 25" head to tail and 7" widest point at the body. Of course tail sticks up higher.Body does swivel on base(but not in the wind) and is removable from base. Base has screw holes. Put mounting rod in a pipe if you want to use it as a wind vane or enlarge the base mounting hole slightly( metal base.Plastic insert)

WEATHER VANE: Antique Whale. Gilded Copper, 18" x 25" Beautiful Form& Patina This is a very handsome Weather Vane featuring a cheerful figure of a Whale which I acquired years ago in Gloucester. Massachusetts, which was for years the most important Whaling port on the East Coast. As he stands now on his wooden stand he is 18 inches tall and 25 inches long. He is full-bodied gilded copper. Much of the gilding has worn away reveling patches of old copper and verdigris creating a complex and beautiful patina. His surface is completely stable. With no flaking or chipping. All of his seams are tight and he seems to have escaped the indignity of being involved in target practice. He has no serious damage, but there are two small dings, one on each side just before his tail. This Whale is so beautifully made that. Massachusetts, which was for years the most important Whaling port on the East Coast. As he stands now on his wooden stand he is 18 inches tall and 25 inches long. He is full-bodied gilded copper. Much of the gilding has worn away reveling patches of old copper and verdigris creating a complex and beautiful patina. His surface is completely stable. With no flaking or chipping. All of his seams are tight and he seems to have escaped the indignity of being involved in target practice. He has no serious damage, but there are two small dings, one on each side just before his tail. This Whale is so beautifully made that.
