This is a dark cobalt blue ear of corn ball with rod and glass tail windvane. These balls were used*only* in Harrisburg Pa and were made in small numbers in various colors with true milk glass being the most common. In the 32 years I have collected insulators and lightning rods. I have seen only 1 other cobalt blue and it was pictured in a book. This LRB is in top condition having only minor nibbling around the opening and you are getting the complete rod set. The glass in the vane is NOT original. I custom make glass inserts for vanes that are missing the original glass. Up for auction is a 1930's Milk Glass"Ear Of Corn" Lightning rod ball. From what i found searching this item is it said to be very rare! and believed to made in Pennsylvania. Has look of possibly a Houze glass product but i am not for sure. This is a very nice piece as i found no cracks but has some chipping on top that would never show with cap on. and bottom around one of the husk lines has roughness/ flea bites but nothing major at all. included is 2 end caps. Antique Lightning Rod Ball, ornament / Ear of Corn, Harrisburg ca.1900
Recently purchased this item at an estate auction. Had a little note stuck in the middle which I will send to the new owner. After some research I found it to be nicknamed Ear of Corn. Harrisburg. The maker is unknown. It's late 19th to early 20th century. Item is in very good condition with only a few chigger bites on the top and several on the bottom. It is pale green, almost a jadeite color. Other than that there are no chips, cracks or repairs. It measures 4& 3/16" tall and approx. 3" wide. Top and bottom opening is about 7/8" in diameter. Also posting a photocopy of the note that was enclosed in the middle of the ball. Kind of hard to read but one can make most of it out. Thanks for looking.

Pink glass Ear of Corn lightning rod ball. Both collars are in good condition. However this ball is cracked as shown in the last photo. The longest crack is 1 1/2" long. The ball is still nice and tight, and displays well.
