This is an old original blue pleated lightning rod ball. It is in very good condition. There are no cracks or breaks. There is chipping to the collar ends which is very common with these old balls. The collar ends are shown in the pics. It has a nice shiny finish to the glass and is a nice bright blue. It measures 4 1/2" across at the widest point. It will be well packed and fully insured. There is some chipping on the bases and it has some staining on the inside of one base. But. Considering it's age and use it is in really good condition. Antique Lightning Rod Ball D & S Patent Pending Blue Milk Glass 10 Sided Decagon
Measures about 5 inches tall and is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter at widest point and 1 1/4 inches in diameter at the openings. It appears that it is a blue colored milk glass type glass. It is embossed with a diamond with"D&S" inside of it. Also embossed with Patent Pending. You can see the openings are a bit rough. But it looks like a lot of that is from the manufacturing. The one opening is stained and has more chips in it. My guess is there was a metal cap/sleeve type thing there and it rusted. This is a very cool blue colored piece to ass to your collection! This is a lot of 3 old lightning rod balls.They are made of milk glass.2 are blue and 1 white.The 2 blue measure about 4 1/2" diameter and the white one is about 3 1/2" diameter.They have no cracks but ends are chipped up some.They have very old wasps nests in them which I left as some may want.Check out my other listings.

Vintage Antique 68" Copper Lightning Rod with Blue W.C. Shinn Milk Glass Ball
This is a beautiful old copper lightning rod with metal stand and blue milk glass W.C. Shinn Mfg. Co. ball. The copper has a fantastic green patina and the stand has some surface rust. But it is still sturdy and functional. There are holes in the ends of the stand legs for attaching the stand to the roof or other structure. The glass ball is a bold robin's egg blue with the words W.C. Shinn Mfg. Co. wrapped around the middle. There are some tiny chips missing from the top rim and two larger chips missing from the bottom as shown in the 4th, 7th, and last photo. The ball still sits nicely on the metal disk, and there are no cracks in the glass anywhere. The white disk you can see under the ball on the photos is a thin foam disk that is there to protect the bottom rim of the ball, but it is not necessary and can be slipped right off. I ... morewill remove the stand and ship that part along with the ball in a separate box from the lightning rod to protect the ball from breakage and lower shipping cost. The Ribbed Grape pattern features three rows of circles with ribbed panels above and below. The ball has 18 circles in the center row. The pattern was produced by different manufacturers, I believe this one is a National Lightening Protection Co ball as the Fenton balls measure smaller. The piece measures 5 1/2" high. 4 1/2" in diameter and weighs 9.8 oz. The piece has chips and fleabites around the fitter ends which is extremely common. All of the balls have"medium" size collars with the usual wear expected from 100 years of rattling in the wind while sitting on a rooftop lightning rod. One of the sun colored amethyst(SCA) balls has a V shaped chip that does not reach the body of the ball. But a metal cap covers this chip fully. One of the blue milk glass balls has a bubble pop hole in it. This hole is from the manufacturing process, an air pocket was in the mold when the ball was made. This is not a hole caused by a BB gun. This ball is considered usable, as it was on a rooftop lightning rod for years and did not break during its lifetime. All of these balls have another 100 years of use left in them! This specific Glass ball came from a fallen barn structure in Southern Chisago County in Minnesota. Antique Blue Milk Glass Weathervane Lightning Rod Ball, Embossed "NATIONAL"
Lovely Antique Lightning Rod Ball Up for your consideration is this lovely antique lightning rod ball in robins egg blue. Probably milk glass, this ball does not have a pattern but is embossed with the word"NATIONAL" across the front, there are no metal caps on the upper or lower edges, both edges are well chipped and are blackened possibly from a previous lightning strike, I'm sure caps would still secure to the ball with some proper adhesive, measures approximately 5" from top to bottom edges and has about a 4 1/2" diameter. In good condition but does have large chips on the rims, no caps, but overall the ball itself is in good condition. Sold As Is. I will combine shipping! Antique Blue Milk Glass SLR Co Ghost Short Wide Collar Lightning Rod Ball
Up for auction is an antique blue milk glass lightning rod ball in the"ghost" SLR Short Wide collar pattern/variation. This ball measures approx 5 1/8" by 4 1/2" In 1923 the Security Lightning Rod Co from Burlington Wisconsin changed its name to Security Manufacturing& Contracting Co. The embossed SLRCo was removed from the molds but a"ghost effect" remained. On this ball the SLRCo ghosting is partially visible when held up to the light. These balls were not meant to be capped. Therefore the condition of the collars is critical to the value of the balls. This ball has extremely good collars(see images) This blue ball has beautiful full circle color swirling from the top to the bottom. There is one 3/8" bubble burst on the surface of the ball as shown in the picture. This does not detract from its attractiveness ... moreor value. There are no other chips. Two Antique 1890s Copper Iron Lightning Rods Blue Milk Glass Globes MI Farmhouse
Up for auction is a Lot of Two Antique 1890's Lightning Rods with Twisted Iron Stands and Copper Rods and Points. One rod measures approximately 66" and the other 67" One tip does have a small 1/2" split(see photo#10) These were removed from a local farmhouse that was originally built in 1891 and subsequently torn down in 2013. Both have rust and wear. Which is typical for 100+ year old lightning rods. Both rods come with a blue milk glass globe. Which is chipped on both ends. The globes may need further cleaning. Here we have for sale a blue milk glass lightning ball. It is embossed SHINN SYSTEM. Ball is dirty as found on a roof. No bb damage or cracks. Top collar is a little shorter than usual. It also has a chip but a cap will affix to it no problem. The bottom collar has a piece flaked off but otherwise is in good shape. It will fit a 5/8" tube rod. Good looking ball and tougher than the Shinn Belted version.

This is an awesome. And beautiful lightning rod setup. It includes a stand or brace measuring 23" tall and features two ceramic insulators. One is perfect and the other has a chip/crack, typical of these after years of use. The bottom insulator is marked"KRETZER BRAND" in raised embossing. The rod is a copper clad iron rod with beautiful patina. It measures 41" from the bottom to the tip. The tip is a nice three sided bayonet tip that retains some of its silver finish. The lightning rod ball is a Blue Milk Glass"MAST" design. It is in good condition and has aluminum caps! It has a beautiful swirl pattern and is embossed"TRADE MAST MARK REG US PAT OFF" Tha ball has no chips but DOES have one partial crack near one end of the ball. It seems to follow one of the swirl marks in the glass and because of ... morethat is not easy to see. This ball has a very nice. Medium blue color and is quite striking! Antique Blue Milk Glass National Round Lightning Rod Ball Excellent Condition!
This is a blue milk glass"National Round" pattern lightning rod ball. The lettering is crisp and sharp and the collars are in perfect condition as collectors consider them. The ball is in amazing condition with no chips or cracks. The color is nice beautiful medium blue with a small bit of staining on the ends of the collars from being up on a house for so many years.
