Vtg DIDDLE BLITZEN lightning rod ball white to light amethyst from sun, 8 panels
This lightning rod ball is made from milk glass with a little manganese added for strength. When exposed to the sun the manganese gives the glass a slight amethyst shade. This ball is JUST BEGINNING to turn from white to amethyst. DIDDLE- BLITZEN is embossed around the top half. Eight panels on the top and bottom halves and a raised grid around the middle. In my opinion the"ball" is in excellent condition. Only a few chips on each end which would have been protected by a metal collar. I do not have the metal collars but it is easy enough to get replacement ones. No cracks or chips any place else. Please email with any questions before bidding. Thanks for looking.

Estate find! Nice old amethyst or sun purple lightning rod ball. It measures approximately 4-1/2 inches in diameter. See photos for condition/details. It shows age from years of use. There are the expected swirls and air bubbles in the glass. But no cracks or damage; just the expected nips around the collars and the inside can use a cleaning. Your lightning rod ball will be packed with care and shipped fully insured. Most of the items we sell are estate finds. And are presented to you in, as is, as found condition. Very thin glass on this ball. being the coloration is so faint I'm guessing this was a clear ball that the sun has started purpleing. Dimensions: 4 3/4" diameter. 5" tall. This is a Vintage Amethyst Lightning Rod Ball. It Measures 5" Tall x 5" Wide. With 1 1/4" Openings. The Purple Color Comes from being Exposed to the Sun for a Very Long Time. It was Made From Sand with a High Amount of Iron that has had Manganese added to Produce a Clear Glass. It is the Reaction of the Sun and the Manganese that Turns the Glass Amethyst. If Placed in a Garden or on a Weather Vane in the Sun, It Will Continue to Darken. There are No Cracks in the Glass. There Are Rim Chips at Both Openings. If you have any questions. Amethyst or sun colored 4 1/2" Lightning glass ball with copper end caps
Howdy Folks, Hope all is well. Up for your auctioning pleasure or viewing is a Amethyst or a sun turned colored lightning ball. Well that's what I think it is. Measures about 4 1/2" and about 5 1/4" tall with the caps. Some scratches and a couple of very small dings or nicks. No cracks. Unknown maker. Looks like the end caps where put on using white caulk? Neat old piece of glass. Weighs about 9 ounces so looking at 1.15 pounds to ship. Thanks Folks the ball will need to be cleaned better. All we did was to rinse it out. Water spots are free. Sun Colored Amethyst Dodd & Struthers lightning rod ball
SCA D&S lightning rod ball. Comes with two caps as pictured. Both caps are on tight. Both collars appear to be in excellent condition under the caps. There is a very small amount of silver mercury residue left on the inside. This ball is hazy. And I have not tried to clean it. No chips or cracks. overall condition is excellent.

ANTIQUE "K" KRETZER SUN COLORED AMETHYST LIGHTNING ROD BALL PURPLE Vintage
Here is an antique clear glass lightning rod ball that is embossed with a"K" I believe the K stands for Kretzer. You can decide for yourself. It has been sun colored to a purple/amethyst cast. The chemicals they used in glass back then would add a purple cast from being in the sun for so many years. This measures 5"T x 5"W. This is molded glass so there are thin seams along the sides. It does have some age/weather discoloration even though I did clean it. Staining is mainly on the one collar with light discoloration on the ball itself. One collar has very tiny chipping. The other collar has just a little bit more. It also has a little scratching on glass from storage. I'm back to selling the remainder of the collection of lightning rod balls that I purchased several years ago. These were removed off an old barn/house ... moremany years ago. Buyer pays shipping. Right off the barn! Sun purple glass lightning rod ball. It has an angular eight paneled design that is circular in the middle. It measures from 4-1/8" top to bottom collar to collar. And 1-1/8" outside diameter on the collars. It is in very good as found condition, there is natural soiling on the inside consistent with normal use and some nips around the top and bottom collars that would be covered with the addition of a metal collar. Stand is NOT included. Nice sun colored amethyst(SCA) lightning rod ball known as a DOORKNOB. Measures 4 1/8 inches in diameter and the collars are 1 1/8 inch outside measurement. I did not wash it at all. Some dirt and film on inside. Collars have a few chips on them from being blown around on somebody's roof!

Beautiful Antique Sun Colored Amethyst Hawkeye Lightning Rod Ball
This is a beautiful antique lightning rod ball in the Hawkeye pattern. It is a nice medium to darker sun colored amethyst(SCA) and has superb collars. The surface of this ball has very little staining and cloudiness compared to many SCA balls. The Hawkeye lettering is nice and boldly embossed. The ball's only minor flaw is a very small flake( Hard to see, on the side of one of the ribs. It is barely visible in the last image on this listing. No cracks or holes and again this tiny blemish is very difficult to see. This ball is a great example of this style with its nice SCA color and beautiful condition.
