Antique Pig Weathervane Lightning Rod Arrow Primitive Folk Art W/ Bullet Holes
This auction is for a old Pig Weathervane/Lightning Rod Directional Arrow that came from a Missouri estate. It measures 21 5/8" x 5 3/8" The metal pig which I think is zinc measures 9" x 5" The arrow is cast iron and is straight. The back part of the arrow that the pig stands on is designed with twisted metal. It appears that a piece that originally went to one of the back legs is broken. I have a close up of it in the pictures. As you can see this little piggy was used for target practice and has several bullet holes in his body. The legs. Ears, nose, and tail are intact and the pig is secure on the arrow. It is weathered from lots of years on the barn and the cast iron arrow has some rust. I am guessing this one dates back to the 1920-30's. The arrow is cast iron with a somewhat rusty surface-to be expected from a ferrous metal used outdoors. The pig appears to have a zinc body. As many of them were. It is somewhat loose on its mount, but is nowhere close to falling off. A genuine antique weather vane would hardly be"complete" if some mean little boy had not shot at it-and this one is complete, but just barely. It looks like it was hit with a pellet gun, as it went through only one side of the pig, and did not penetrate the other. I think a.22 would have gone through bot sides, unless it was at a great distance. There is also slight loss at the underside of the jowl, where he ... morewas slightly grazed. This is a great antique PIG COPPER WEATHERVANE with original patina and lots of character. The old boy had its front feet shot off at some point in lengthy lifetime. Poor guy. No major issues to report except for a few superficial blemishes. All parts spin freely. The ears are separated. There are eyes on both sides. It appears to be folk art. For your consideration and fresh from a Northern Missouri farm is this fabulous antique large pig weathervane. This rare gilded copper weathervane measures 30" wide and 22" tall. It is hollow and made of two halves attached together and gilded. The gilding is worn away from age and showing patches of cooper. His tail is missing and may be inside. There is something rattling inside when shaken. Overall the condition is very good for its age. These rarely come around for sale in any condition let alone in this condition. Antique PERFECT! small pig weathervane triple heart arrow lightning rod
This is a perfect small pig on a triple heart highly collectible arrow. the pig measures four and three quarters inches tall and eight and a half inches long. The arrow is approximately 21 inches long. as you can see there is one small BB hole in the pigs back but it does not go through to the other side. Please see pictures for more detail.
