This listing is for an Antique. Ribbed Grape Lightning Rod Ball or Globe in Blue Milk Glass. The blue color is an amazing light blue with deep coloring. The Ribbed Grape pattern features three rows of circles with ribbed panels above and below. The ball has 18 circles in the center row. The pattern was produced by different manufacturers, I believe this one is a National Lightening Protection Co ball as the Fenton balls measure smaller. The piece measures 5 1/2" high. 4 1/2" in diameter and weighs 9.8 oz. The piece has chips and fleabites around the fitter ends which is extremely common. The main ball portion is in excellent condition with no cracks or dings. This is a great antique ball in a rare color and will make a fantastic addition to any lightening rod ball collection. We have removed the lightning rods and balls from our 200 year old farmhouse. I am selling some of the parts. This auction is for one lightning rod ball in good condition on a fancy copper rod all intact. The ball is about 5 1/8" tall. 4 1/2" wide- standard size. Clear amethyst. In a ribbed and grape pattern. It is a little cloudy. The whole unit stands 34" D&S Dodd and Struthers from the early 1900's- marked on the bottom piece of copper. But the ball does not have any markings Is has normal wear- I do not know if the ball collar is damaged as I am leaving this one intact. And the copper pieces are there. I don't know how old it is. I just know that the whole set was by D&S. Dodd& Struthers, Des Moines Lightning Rod Company, as I found the copper plate on the barn with their name on it, as well as the markings ... moreon the bottom of the rods. This is a beautiful antique lightning rod ball in the Ribbed Grape pattern. It is a nice medium Blue Milk Glass with a couple of really cool darker swirls and comes with aluminum caps. The collars under the caps appear to be in perfect condition. There are no chips or cracks and the ball appears to be in exceptional condition.
